Sir Matzter, True, no difference at all, Kung meron man sumasama pa lalo to higher resolution.

Should have both a midend/high end standard player with progressive and interlace option or have wait for a HD/blu ray player

I already have the upscaler any advise what to do with it (para maenjoy Ko naman). 37" LCD TV HDMI both side.

sa tagal ko ng nde napapadalaw sa pinoydvd, yung tanong ko sa kabilang section, dto ko pla dapat natanong.

i really enjoy the gurus here helping newbies and i guess people like me who is trying to regain some ht set-up after 2-3 yrs hiatus of our hobby (budget issues).

mahirap din kpag natamaan ng SARS, i remembered when i had to sell my set-up then due to emergency, iniwasan ko muna magbasa sa mga set-up section (audio/speakers/amplifiers/receivers) para nde ako lumungkot nun at ma-miss mga gears ko.

napaiwas din ako pumunta sa mga AV shops nun at nagtrain sarili ko na mag-appreciate ng ipod shuffle.

i really had to tighten up my belt para makabili ng HT set-up nun.

But now i'm slowly trying to complete the HT set-up piece by piece with what sir matz can buy with a limited budget.

hopefully, i will be able to complete my HT set-up soon with a budget of around 35k maxed. as much as possible also, ayoko na muna ng upgrade (particularly spkrs)

i was lucky enough to closed a deal to get a rcvr (pre-owned hk230 mint unit) at around 12k (although sa sabado ko makukuha yung unit). i do hope i can find the necessary FS and center to pair with this without going over my budget and also with out the SARS attack.

it would be nice to have some hdmi features but i can live w/o them since contented ako sa crt tv at sd dvd players

(i can use my existing aowa spkrs for surround/ sub will be my last concern - probably nxt yr pa if budget permits)

it was suggested to me to get wharfes already which i will consider. hope you guys can suggest more alternatives po. tnx :)

more power dun sa nde nagsasawa magbigay ng advise.  :D

Nothing beats spending the entire weekend visiting AV showrooms and indulging your ears and eyes and feasting on you SARS without committing yet.  Though if you can't help it, just bring your credit card(s) with you.  ;D   Bad advice.   ;D

mahirap at nakakalungkot ng mawalan ng ht at sounds sa bahay eh.. tapos masasabik pa kpag mapapadalaw sa mga suking a/v na tindahan..

now, i already have an idea what speakers i'm getting for my receiver  ;D

will it be HK/?? All the Way!!!!! again or not, i wonder....

Hi,

Just bought my A/V receiver and speakers yesterday from Theater Works (Trinoma) for my first HT project. I got the Denon 1907,  Wharf Diamond 9.3 (F) , WH-2 (C/Sur) and the US Audio 510 (Sub). Also bought a matching Pioneer DV600AV. Can't wait to set these up. BTW, the people there in TW were very helpful and accommodating, esp Jennifer and JR ...Good prices too! :)

yep, medyo mahal pero mas nakamura ako di hamak kaysa kung yung orig choice ko na (hk avr 145+cs480) combo...buti na lang medyo maraming experienced at mababait na tao dito sa forums who always share their inputs...i also tested the setup yesterday and wala akong reklamo - and yung good pricing sa TW also helped... :)

my HT room now is really small but am planning ahead kung sakaling mag-expand ako ng room size...i seized the opportunity na medyo may budget ngayon at affordable pa prices... :) anyway, will post pics later...

Very Good buy amethyst_arr! I bet it will really sound good. I've been from every A/V store and so far, TheaterWorks have been the most helpful and informative. They also offer very low prices compared to other stores specially those non-specialty stores. We'll be waiting for the pix!

mga sir, anu po ba ok n AVR w/ pre out and HDMI primarily for movies and gaming? pre outs ksi nabasa ko dito na mas ok kung may pre outs para di na kailangan palitan buong AV pag gs2 mu pa palakasin yung set up mo (more flexibility for your system), pero parang yung mga mid-range AVRs lang yung may pre outs... and yung hdmi naman para maximized yung HDTV...

Not necessarily mid range AVR's only have pre-outs. For Onkyo maybe. These below are the cheapest models w/ pre outs:
Denon: 190x series (mid = 2800 series)
Marantz: lowest model has pre outs already
Yamaha: 600 series (Mid level 1x00 series)
Harman: HK200 series (mid level is 300 series)

Marantz 4001 has pre outs & HDMI. Its the best sub 30k HDMI receiver w/ pre out bargain out there (I think)

ok ba THX receivers ng Pioneer? specifically the VSX-LX50. ano sound characteristics nila? warm, bright, etc?

As noted by sir AV_phile in some of his post, THX certicatification can be taken as a grain of salt if the receiver is the only one which is THX certified. To be truly a THX qualified setup, ALL your equipment must be THX certified or must pass THX qualifications including the the receiver, speakers, cables, room, etc.

Link: http://www.orionstudios.com/D5/THX.htm
Quote
The various minimum aspects of a full THX certified home theater system include a THX certified preamplifier/surround sound processor, certified amplifiers, certified interconnect cables and speaker wire, certified subwoofer, certified surround channel speakers, certified center channel speaker, and certified front left and right speakers. THX also certifies laserdisc and DVD players, equalizers, receivers, and acoustically transparent projection screens (screens with microscopic holes allowing speakers to be placed behind them with little or no sound quality degradation).
...
...
In order to create a true THX system, however, all THX components should be used throughout the sound chain.

The good thing about THX certified receiver is that it is stable with 4 Ohm load as it is part of the qualification so it can easily drive almost all speakers.  :D

THIS is my reason for choosing THX certified receivers.  The power section :).  But most receivers are 2 channels driven rated so I still prefer power amps.

Heard the pioneer-jamo combi in SM appliance centers and my impression is manipis talaga ang midrange ng combi na ito. I don't know if the problem is with the Jamo speaker or the pioneer. Best is to audition it.

Same here! heard the SM appliance Jamo-pioneer combo. But its not the THX model though.

But its not manipis to me, the midrange was "butas" IMO. I can hear the higher freq & lower freq but something was seriously missing (it just was not there!) with the midrange.  :-[

thanks for the replies. im setting up a small condominium unit bedroom setup with either paradigm cinema 110 5.1 speaker set or polk audio RM20's. can you recommend a receiver? is the Pioneer VSX-LX50 THX receiver kinda ''overkill'' for the speakers and room size considering that it's a small condo unit bedroom?

btw, room size is around 10sqm. (will double check hehe)

Just turn down the volume to your comfortable listening levels.  Since your's is in a condo, you may want to invite your neighbors to a party in your suite and explain to them what your desired level is.  If they object, then you know what level to use. ;D

No such thing as overkill IMO. the more breathing room your receiver has, the less it is prone to distortion.

If you want proof, modesty aside (for illustration purpose only :D) I have a THX receiver, separate THX power amp, a whoppingly powerful THX sub (plus one more sub) in my condo HT & its just a pathetic 12 sqm room!

My bedroom setup w/c is bigger than my HT room uses small JBL satellites. I once used an entry level receiver that distorts at around 80% of the volume and it could barely fill the room with sound. I recently (2 months ago) changed it to an integrated 5 channel power amp that can play LOUD and really fill the room with sound... at just 50% of its volume w/ NO distortion. Wifey was actually praising the bedroom setup yesterday, lol.

The difference.... is in the power! With excess power there is more dynamic headroom! More juice for surrounds! So that it fills your room with sound. I read in an HT mag article that entry levels compromise power on their surrounds first just so that the fronts will have more.

If its too much, then like sir AV said, just turn the volume down.

its not how many watts you have driving the speakers that is important....it also depends on the quality of every watt that the amp pumps out. IMHO if the first watt sounds like crap then to hell with the 999 watts that the amp has in store.

SIRS need some help:

Be getting the YAMAHA 633 receiver soon so i'm thinking of a good pair of speakers to match them with.  Anong ok sirs?  Warf? Mission?

Be putting them in my small (50sq meter) CONDO sa living room area.  Di ko rin alam kung Bookself or Floorstand speakers kunin ko.   And does the DFS Surrounds (rear speakers) a good choice?   Saw the Warfdale WH-2 for 5k lang eh.  (rear speakers with center na)

I'm currently considering upgrading my HTiB and use a kenwood KRF-X 9090D.

Qouestion:
1. Would it still need an integrated power amplifier for fuller sound reproduction if used for a 5.1 or higher set-up?
2. In your opinion, what would be the best entry-level or mid-level speaker to pair it with (small room area, 3 sided wall and open R hand side)?

go for the wharfedale diamond series. best bang for buck speakers. go with either the 9.5 or 9.6.  if you don't want to use a sub, go for the 9.6. :)

thanks guys for the replies my MAX budget is at least 15-20k.  I'm thinking of getting bookshelf type speakers rather than floor standers because of the space ... ok lang kaya yun?  If I get the bookself type and don;t install subs .. k lang naman yung movie / games experience right?

What I plan to get is the ff:

1 diamond 9cs
1 pair diamond 9.1
1 pair diamond WH-3
1 Us Audio 508  < -- if I plan to get a SUB.  Prob lang is baka madistorbo yung neighbors hehehe.

I will be putting them in my living room area - - 4.8 meters length from COUCH to TV ...  medyo malayo k na kaya yung sounds.  I plan to maximize the receiver (yamaha 663) but not makinng it too loud naman for the neighbors.
