I'm so out of touch with the latest HK....

I have a HK AVR 5500, is there any pre-amp that I can buy and use with it? Something that can decode Dolby True HD and DTS - HD -MA,for blu-ray ?

Or do I have to buy an all new avr? If so, what is the latest models available here that has the same speaker output spec as the AVR 5500?

i think there are blu-ray players that can decode these audio formats internally and either send them through hdmi for compatible receivers, or through the multi-channel out to your 5500's multi-channel in. that would probably be the more economical way.

Harman Kardon resets its AV receiver line with AVR 1600, 2600 and 3600 models

Does this mean, the 155, 255, 355, are all about to be or phased out (already)?

Anyone currently connecting their gears this way? Blu ray player ---> HK AVR ---> TV (all connections through HDMI)? How's the video signal? Did it degrade? I prefer connecting the video out of the player (ie. DVD) directly to the TV. But in the case of blu ray, video and audio travel in one HDMI cable thereby making a pass through the AVR necessary. Pls comment.

=======================

Looked into the manual of both the '08 AVR 255 and the new '09 AVR 2600. Both have the same 65w but they have a different layout at the back panel. The AVR 2600 now comes with a fan.

hi just had a couple of questions. i'm trying to decide between the 255 and a denon 1910. i've read a lot of stuff on the net and wanted to get the opinion of the folks here. first, does the 255 run hot? hotter than the 1910? second, when you have the the following setup [disc player -> 255 -> tv], are you able to play audio discs on the player without turning on the tv?

TIA  :)

Those receivers really get hot even on normal listening levels within minutes of using.  You almost can't touch the area near the heat sinks.  I wonder if the makers are going beyond the SOA of their power transistors just to increase rated power.

dami na rin nagtatanong nitong service center for harman kardon. since i have good
experience with them naman, sana makatulong din sa fellow h/k owners and sa beyond
na rin. this is where i brought my h/k a year or so ago, so not sure if these haven't
been updated yet.

"1" is the location of their office, while "2" is where the service center is. as i've said,
not sure if they haven't moved yet, but if not... then it is where you need to go. you can
