Is there really a big difference between HK 235 and HK 335?  What is the better AVR for this 7.1 speaker setup: Wharfedale 9.5 (fronts), 9.CS (center), 9.dfs (surrounds), 9.1 (rear), SW 300 (sub)?

do you mean difference in sound?

I have not heard the 235 and 335 but i have auditioned the newer models 240 and 340 side by side.  Using same speakers, sources and all and I'd say I can't detect any difference in sound.  Just me though.

no HDMI connections for both models, more power po ang hk340, price ranges from 30k to 32k.  ;)

Bro,

For me, there are a lot of things to consider before we can say that a particular product will be a good value for your money. We can mention here the cheapest product, but if it will not suit your need or your preference the cost or the savings for that matter will not be worth it.

For one thing it will be helpfull to mention the size of the room where you plan to setup and use the AV receiver. Then, there are other points to consider like, are you more into HT or Audio as well. Would you like your system to be used for both or just for movie viewing? Of course you have to consider the speakers you currently have that will be connected to the receiver. What are the speakers' brand and/or specifications? If you don't have speakers yet, what are your choices for it? Are you into portable gadgets as well like IPods? And of course there is the budget question. How much are you willing to spend for your AV receiver? Do you have an HDMI ready viewing system? If not, what are the connection options available for video?

These are just some things I can think of from the top of my head, which will hopefully help us indentify if a receiver will be suited for your needs, and also be able to refer good stores also that can provide a reasonable price.

I believe that all of us here are always after what you refer to as "value for money". However, for most as well, there has to be a baseline or criteria which helps in the decision for purchasing a product. Only then can we say that the purchased product is worth the saving or the cost.

Please provide more information so you can be assisted in your query much better.

What's the best AVR/speaker system for an HT > Music setup for a room about 5x6x4 meters  (WXLXH)? I'm thinking of upgrading my setup to an HK (300 series) + Wharfdale (9 series).. Is this ok?

I have an HK240 and a diamond 9.5 for my HT setup and for my room and its inherent acoustic character ok na ok sya.  I can't say, though, if this combo will be good as well in your room.

btw, my room is about the same size as yours   ;)

A 5x6x4m room (30sqm or 120 cbm) would benefit from a top range AVR like the HK 6 series, or even better if you use the 7 series (w/ torroidal transformers used in external amps). Ideally, the bigger the room , the more power you need for the receiver, in your room's case, even separates are well recommended. If your room is acoustically treated more on the absorption side, again more power is needed.

In the HT hobby, excess is your friend. Its better to have a muscular receiver (for dynamic headroom) doing its job w/ ease than an underpowered or "pwede na" receiver coughing (naghihingalo) to do its job. Coming from using htib ->entry level -> mid level receivers -> power amps, I have personally experienced this.

As a guideline, THX select receivers were made for 2000 cu ft rooms while the more expensive THX ULTRA receivers were made for 3000 cu ft.

Your room is already 4,200 cu ft.  :o

Of course budget is always a consideration, so a cheaper alternative for big rooms: power amps. Also, if you have relatives in the U.S.,  the older model 7 series are being sold for very low prices (below 50k).

Bro,

Ang medyo malaki ang HT room mo. Kung HK340 (which is the latest in the 300 series) ang choice mo, maganda nga, pro baka mabitin ka. If you really prefer the HK340, then we recommend adding a power amp. You can also try higher model HK receivers. Too bad you did not specify your budget. But if you can stretch it out a little, go HK645 or 745.

Regarding the speakers, your choice is good. But if really wanna make them singe, provide them enough power to drive.

If you do not mind pre owned, there was someone selling a HK630 before at the B/S section(aside from me, I sold mine) at your budget. I am all praise for this AVR, excellent in music & HT.

Sayang, I also sold a same class HK AVR (HK5550, 2003 model) for my migrating friend for only 28k!!! Somebody was clever enough to grab the deal right away.

If your current receiver has pre outs, just get a Rotel RB-1075 5x130w power amp w/ your budget. Your music & HT experience will blow you away. You can even go for the Wharfe 9.6 w/ such a powerful amp.

The good thing w/ power amps is it can stay w/ you forever. Just keep changing your AVR (w/ pre outs) everythime there is a new technology like HDMI, new surround formats, new features. They perform way better than a receiver's (limited) power section too.

Is there something to do with the HK High Current capability AVR's with this? TIA  :)

Hindi naman kailangang identical.

High Current capability may just be another marketing gimmick.
