sir Matz,

ung HT Slam po ba e kayang solusyunan ng Power amp?

Yes. unless your room is too huge

More power/headroom = more slam/dynamics. More power means more internal space needed (heat sinks, transformers) & usually cant be provided by most receivers due to space restrictions. But not a problem to dedicated power amps.

Most receivers, when measured like HK (all channels driven) do not give out their claimed power ratings (sometimes less than 50% lang!) . All power amps are all channels driven measured.

Just look at the inner workings of a power amp & a receiver, you couldnt imagine how to fit the power supply of a dedicated power amp into a normal size receiver along w/ the other components.

Same query here, Is it a great to pair HK 345 + 100W 5ch power amp to get a great HT slam? Will this config get near to the performance of HK 7300 which has 110wpc ACD power?

Power wise, yes. But processor wise: no (obviously). The higher end recievers usually still have better & more expensive processors that cant be matched by their entry level counterparts. But you have to pay a premium for these high end processors.

So bottom line to the question: near to the performance of a 7300? yes

Even w/ a powerful HK630 , there was still an undeniable difference when I used a power amp. If you dig up my old posts from years ago, I have always mentioned this repeatedly.

To experience that great slam and dynamics....even without a sub ;) switch to another route of set-up mid or higher end AVR with more powerful ext. amps and or for more flexiblity " separates " preamp n amps...  8)  ;D

Any idea how much the 245 and/or 345 would cost?  Thanks a lot.

Hello!

Any developments on the battery replacement project on the receiver?  I think Gearhead was going to try and DIY it.  Anybody have the battery changed of their HK for the memory settings?  I still have this problem from time to time when I turn off the regulator for a week or so.

Bassman, did you have your batteries replaced?  As per kind advise of Slayer?

Thanks!

Hi Bassman,

Pareho pala tayo waiting kapatid  ;D

Like you, I do the same thing and just input the settings again it takes less than a minute lang naman.

Tiis muna tayo habang wala pa tayong nagagawang replacement bro.

Salamas!

Gearhead,

Makikibalita na lang sa project mo on it's success.

Tnx!

Talaga?  Sayang di mo nakuha first choice mo.  Either way good buy ka naman kapatid love ko din ito maski dami bago he he. Besides mahal magpalit!  So far this AVR hasn't given me any reason to change it for my current use.

Cheers!

mga kapatid sa HK5550...... konting hintay na lang.  ;D baka this weekend mai-try ko na din. nagsasawa na rin kasi ako kaka-input ng settings tuwing bubuksan ko. di ko naman maiwanang naka-standby kasi baka madale ng voltage/lightning spike. i'm not getting my hopes very high though kasi sinisilip ko yung butas sa ibabaw parang masikip sa loob. pero, we'll see. wala na naman sa warranty ito kaya pagpraktisan ko na. siguro nga due for battery replacement nga lang ito kasi sabay-sabay tayo nagkaganito. i got mine 2nd hand kasi and previously i thought baka nadale nga ng power surge or something dun sa dating me ari.

anyway, kahit nakakakita ako ng ibang mga bagong model... napamahal na rin sa akin ito kasi it can really drive most speakers i have connected to it, even the diamond 9.6. kaya nga urong-sulong ako dun sa bada 130wpc amp ni sir matz, eh. sa ngayon napupuyat ako sa multi-channel (dolby prologic II music) jazz cd listening. sarap makinig sa gabi.

Bro Gearhead,

Best of luck on the project we will follow suit on your success ingat lang sir sa kalikot.

I never tried the using the prologic II for music usually stereo lang patay yung VMAX.  Hmm will try that this weekend sir.  What source do you use?  SACD?

Cheers!

actully, these are just jazz/instrumental/vocals cd copies... best materials for multi-channel listening. we have HDCD and DVD-Audio materials and i can't say they're better than the ordinary CD that's been properly recorded.

you can always try the different formats, including pure stereo of course. using my marantz, it was circle surround II that sounded best for me.... with the hk, the DPLII-Music gives the fuller sound (to me at least). logic 7 may have better soundstaging at times, but it can be somewhat leaner sounding.

if i may add, the more significant benefit for multi-channel listening is better subwoofer integration. i really have a harder time trying to integrate the sub with the main fronts using plain stereo. mostly, i just turn off the sub when i listen with the surround off. i have the bass management set to 60/40hz for a sub/sat config and 40/60/80Hz for F/C/S using the quite large d9.6 floorstander, 9cs and 9dfs.

for those waiting for the result of my trial to account for the HK memory battery,
well, it's quite a disappointment. here's a look at the HK5550 with the top cover off.

aside from the very large EI transformer, where most of our money went, we can
see how tight the fit is. i have the front cover already unscrewed, but can't really
disengage it from the main body coz of some wires and flat ribbon cables that are
hard to disconnect.

i peeked at the gap between the front panel (just the back pcb though) and can't
seem to find anything resembling a battery or storage capacitor. probably it's still
much farther inside the front panel itself and the pcb. to totally disengage the
front panel, you'll have to cut the cable ties that hold the wires neat and tight.
i really didn't want to mess with that though.

so that about ends my little (mis)adventure with my hk5550.  :(

well, that would be my... errr, our last resort. there are many horror stories of problems getting worse with outside repair so if we could do it ourselves the better. anyway, i just relied on this previous post on where to look first.

There is a 2 cell button battery at the back of the front panel board.

Disclaimer:  It's best this be changed by the authorized service center.  You might break your AVR.

bad thing is i can't get past that front panel board. all i can see is its backside where there's almost no component. can't get a glimpse too on what's on the other side, so that leaves us with no option but to bring it in for repair.  :(

with that design and batt location is not really user friendly  ??? . Bad Design to consider  :( , unlike my B&K preamp the batt holder is located on the very top of main PCB and labeled so it can be replaced by any ordinary user  8).

Gearhead,

Props to you on your efforts for the batt replacement!  Pero masikip nga talaga sir!

Thank you very much for sharing.

Will try calling beyond innovations for this, sana they don't charge too much on a simple batt replacement.  And if they will be doing some cutting or major disconnections like unsoldering components to get to the batt di na lang siguro.

Thanks again Gearhead!

haha... same trepidation here. i can't imagine how they can ever get to the front pcb without messing up the wiring. i was just disappointed how the hk designers came up with that decision. what were they thinking, you ought to throw away your avr once the battery's gone kaput?

i was particularly having difficulties now having switched to front pj without a secondary monitor yet, so i don't ever try to switch off my avr now. i have the bass management set to 40/60/80 in F/C/S and it works well for me, but the default x'over once you switched off the unit is 100hz for all channels... and you can't access it without a monitor.
