I have a problem with my AVR 5500, it's not saving the settings anymore, it will go back to factory settings when turn off and turn on again. do you guys have any idea what the problem and where can i get it fixed?

Thanks

the small battery inside might be out of juice and needs to be replaced. you can bring it to beyond innovations in libis. they're the distributor of hk here. where did you buy your avr 5500? :)

Guys, a little help naman. I have a h/k avr-635. 110 volts sha. The issue is, each time I turn it on, it freezes and I cant do nothing, I have to toggle the main power switch for it to work. do you know any reliable service centers here in the metro? How much do you think they will charge me (labor and Parts). Thanks everone! Happy New Year!!!

you can call the distributor, beyond innovations. the number of the service center. 634-7315 loc 119-120. i'm sure they can fix it but not sure how much they'll charge. they usually charge higher for units that didn't come from them :)

i'll vouch for beyond innovations. they repaired my HK-5550 and still doing fine right now. as with Courage above, it was suffering from electronic amnesia where it won't remember the settings if powered down. i put up with it for a while, but then it went kaput due to a voltage surge so no choice but to bring it in for service. for the parts and labor for both problems i was charged P4k++. i guess it was a reasonable price for the work done.

Do HK receivers normally run warmer than other brands? I have an HK AVR-144 which seems to run warmer than my Yamaha RX-V663.

Hi Guys,

Which do you think is better in terms of performance HK AVR 245 or the Yamaha RX V463? i will be using the AVR to power up the following:

Wharfedale Series 9 Speakers
Fronts:  9.1
Center: 9CS
Surround: 9DFS
Sub: SW150

Usage:
50% - Music
50% - Movies

konti lang kase difference sa price range e, the HK AVR 245 is PHP 23,500 while the Yamaha RX V463 is PHP22,000

in terms of specs mas mataas ung power rating ng yamaha however i've read somewhere here na malakas daw talaga ang power rating ng HK, per channel kasi nung sa HK is just 50W X 7 sya pero ung Yamaha 105W x 5.

PHP 23,500
http://www.harmankardon.com/specifications.aspx?Region=USA&Country=US&Language=ENG&cat=REC&ser=&prod=AVR%20245/230&sType=

VS

PHP 22,000
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=567576

Which do you think is a better buy among the two?

Thanks.

im getting confused with the names, in their website you wont find the AVR 245 but you will find the HK AVR 254. is this some naming convention which depends per country?

Thanks.

245 is available here, previous generation. Current generation is the 255.

The is available in the US and decodes lossless audio.

The 255 is now available here also, but of course more expensive. I think the main difference between the 245 and the 255 is the latter's ability to decode lossless audio formats (and heftier price tag).

@bayen

You should make a separate thread regarding your receiver decision, syempre dito medyo may bias to HK yung mga recommendations since this is the HK thread. (No offense to anybody, I myself own a HK AVR-144) ;D

I would recommend the HK for 50/50 usage. I find the lower Yamaha models a little bright for music. But that's me ;D

I agree that a separate thread would yield more balanced recommendations on what's the better receiver.

Just wanna share my experience with my HK340. I was watching War Of The Worlds oneday. Volume is set at -20.  Then when the scene came where the pavement starts to crack and rumbling begins, it was at the beginning of the movie. Yung part na nag uuzi sila sa crack na nagawa ng lightning. All of a sudden, the audio dissappeared then nag standby mode yung receiver. Nakalagay sa screen nya "protected"  then nagshut down na I did it twice it shut down twice. Is this normal? O pinoprotektahan lang ng receiver yung sarili nya kasi it's too loud and she can't carry the load? Wala nga pala ako sub. FRONT L&R= large CENTER= small REAR L&R=small Sub=none.  I'm using bookshelf for fronts with 91 sensitivity. Masisira kaya receiver pag madalas mangyari sa kanya ang ganon?
Can you share your opinions please.

You're probably driving it into the clipping regions. And yes, it's just protecting itself. Pansinin mo rin kung nagshushut-off, kung sobrang init yung unit mo. If yes, then totally nahihirapan nga yung amplifier.

Masyadong mababa ang inaabot nun scene na yun, kahit subwoofer papawisan dun.

What bookshelf speakers are you using? It's possible that the impedance of your speakers dips down a lot. And pag large, talagang mas straining on the receiver compared to small. Yung mga bass-intense frequencies ang taxing sa mga amplifiers/receivers usually.

Tnx for the reply sir blued. Di ko na inulit buhat no'n. I limit  my volume to -25 to -30. Mahirap na.  Gamit ko nga po pala bookshelf Paradigm for the 3 fronts.
