Tnx for the reply sir blued. Di ko na inulit buhat no'n. I limit  my volume to -25 to -30. Mahirap na.  Gamit ko nga po pala bookshelf Paradigm for the 3 fronts.

What exact models? Atoms? Mini Monitors? Titans?

what's the cheapest HK receiver with HMDI ports available? how much kaya?  :)

the hk 255 is the cheapest hk receiver that can do audio video thru the hdmi. it also supports the new hd audio formats. the hk 245 can only do video thru hdmi cable. no audio. :)

Just wanna share my experience with my HK340. I was watching War Of The Worlds oneday. Volume is set at -20.  Then when the scene came where the pavement starts to crack and rumbling begins, it was at the beginning of the movie. All of a sudden, the audio dissappeared then nag standby mode yung receiver. Nakalagay sa screen nya "protected"  then nagshut down na I did it twice it shut down twice. Is this normal? O pinoprotektahan lang ng receiver yung sarili nya kasi it's too loud and she can't carry the load? Wala nga pala ako sub. FRONT L&R= large CENTER= small REAR L&R=small Sub=none.  I'm using bookshelf for fronts with 91 sensitivity.
Can you share your opinions please.

most likely it's protecting itself but with the volume set at -20 it should be more than ok. i would have it checked just to be sure. :)

sir avshop, would you know the difference between the 254/354 series saka sa 255/355 series? both are capable of hdmi din kasi, although it seems the xx4 series has the higher wattage.

Same thing happened to me while watching the latest version of Rambo dun sa explosion scene when the missionaries were attacked. I just calibrated the channel settings of my HK turned out I had previously set the front and center settings to +8 while watching a movie with poor audio quality. I just used the automatic calibration feature and then made some minor tweaks.

the 254/354 is the series released in the us. it's supposedly the same except for the wattage.  though the difference in watts won't be that big. to get double the loudness of a 65 watt amp you'd have to have a 650 watt amp. :) are you interested in getting one? :)

AVR 255
7 x 50W 7.1-Channel A/V receiver With HDMI™ 1.3a Repeater, Audio/Video Processing and Upscaling to 1080p

The AVR 255 is the most affordable Harman Kardon® receiver to feature both Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding on the audio side, and Faroudja DCDi Cinema® video processing to 1080p on the video side. But there's plenty more to recommend the AVR 255, including three HDMI™ inputs, connections for external amplifiers, EzSet/EQ™ technology to fine-tune your system to the acoustics of your room, and an RS-232 port for future firmware upgrades. Perhaps the highest recommendation of all? As do all Harman Kardon A/V receivers, the AVR 255 features a high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth design for maximum fidelity.

and sa audio setup ng harman kardon, anong settings sa tone ang nilalagay nyo, "in" or "out"??

"left and right" po ba??

personal preference:

normally, i have my fronts and center (diamond 9.5/9.cs) set to Large and SUB=LFE only. cut-off then is at 80hz. rear surrounds are set to Small and crossover is at 100hz. if the material is sorely lacking in low frequency punch, i use the "L/R+LFE" setting. i usually use global for setting things up quickly.

:)

it's the cut-off for the L/R as set sa receiver. if you have say, an AVIA DVD, you can do a frequency sweep of your system to check on how low can your speakers go. flexible naman ang choices natin as we have 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, at 200Hz to choose from. then you can set it up differently for each of your Fr/C/R speakers. yung SUB naka-direct in (LFE input) lang para iwas sa double cross-over. try mo muna single input, usually sa Left channel. if that proves too soft you can try connecting both using a y-splitter.

I'm looking around for AV Receivers that can work with my Hoffman 5.1 speaker system. I'm considering an HK AVR but find the AVR 255 a bit expensive.

Is video up/cross conversion or scaling to 1080p a crucial function or will be one in the near future?
Is it still advisable to get an AVR only capable of 5.1 output?

@avshop

Would you mind sending me the price list of your AVRs (HK as well as others you might have)? Thanks.

the upscaling feature is useful if you plan to play dvd's. but if you'll be playing hd content like blu-ray discs then you won't really need the upscaler.  as for 5.1 or 7.1, i would just get a 7.1 receiver.  if you only use 5.1 you can still use the other 2 outputs in a zone 2 configuration. :) sent you pm. :)
