@ Sir mikevg08
Kaso 100V ata pag galing US eh. . . ok lang ba un?  ???

US appliances are 110v, having a good and reliable regulator is all you need. :)

Im using HK 3390 for my analog audio listening pleasure. In my experience, kahit iwanan mo pa ng isang linggong walang patayan ang HK 3390 hindi ito nag-iinit. ;D

AVR 255
7 x 50W 7.1-Channel A/V receiver With HDMI™ 1.3a Repeater, Audio/Video Processing and Upscaling to 1080p

The AVR 255 is the most affordable Harman Kardon® receiver to feature both Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding on the audio side, and Faroudja DCDi Cinema® video processing to 1080p on the video side. But there's plenty more to recommend the AVR 255, including three HDMI™ inputs, connections for external amplifiers, EzSet/EQ™ technology to fine-tune your system to the acoustics of your room, and an RS-232 port for future firmware upgrades. Perhaps the highest recommendation of all? As do all Harman Kardon A/V receivers, the AVR 255 features a high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth design for maximum fidelity.

to use the ipod you'll need to use the hk ipod dock called the bridge II.  among the new x55 models, the bridge II will only work with the hk 355 models and up. :)

Harman Kardon AVR's has not found a solution yet to their popping, pcm sound lock etc with the current xx54 models released in the US (not sure if it also afflicting the x55 models). Last time I checked with AVS forum, said issues are yet to be resolved with the firmware update to be released this month (.96.1.1). I have to cancel my purchase in Amazon for the HK 3550 for a bargain price of $590 from orig msrp of $1199 and end up buying the pricey Sony STR5300ES instead. Sayang itong release na model na ito, because IMO, this is the best receiver around....it can DO both... it is very good in movies & AWESOME in Music (have compared it with the music of Denon 3806 & Yammie 1700, this two receivers sounded tinny while HK435 has richer & fuller sounds)...

Its upgrade time!!! I already bid my goodbye to my Denon 3806... ;D

Sad to say, bugs that afflicting the x54 HK series has not been fixed yet & this does not spare the x55s release outside of US. If I were you, I will defer my purchase for any HK receivers until all problems repoerted had been addressed by future FW updates. Here's the response from their tech team in Northbridge, CA:

Thank you for your inquiry. We are currently working on a new software update that will be released within 2 months.  So any units being sold as of now would still require the new update.

that's why i'm really having a hard time letting go of my non-hdmi avr-5550. i'm not sure i can get the same wall of sound i get with my h/k, especially partnered with a good sub. what it gives up in an expanded soundstage, it makes it up with depth and weight that not even my previous marantz can match. i really like it especially in concerts. also, i can watch 3 movies in a row in high volume without suffering from ear fatigue.

Same experience here bro. This is the reason why until now, I haven't cross the borders of tubes because I'm very satisfied w/ the performance of HK 3390. It plays the  melody of Linda Eder "so sweet" at night that I get my sleep quick.

FWIW, me disclaimer din naman si sir avshop na yung mga local units had been upgraded na sa bugless (not bug free  ;D ) f/w. so if you are seriously planning to get one, he's accommodating enough naman that you can test the unit for those particular issues you worry about.

Hi there.

Are you referring to this release: Software release Mar 09; Version 02-03-2009 01 / AFW v0.96.1.1

I think it is available already as per this link: http://www.harmankardon.com/product_support/ProductUpgrades.aspx?prod=AVR%20355/230&prodname=AVR%20355&Country=GB&Language=ENG&Region=EUROPE&ky=DEAE1532490036C166C7BCDF64609DCD

This response comes from the US side. I read somewhere that updates are not yet availalbe for AVR355/255 110/120v versions.

However for countries outside the US that use the 230v version the software/firmware update is quite available.

It seems most of the bugs or issues are with connectivity to other devices like game consoles or changing source formats. But for other colleagues who use their receivers mainly with one source, not gaming but for simply watching moves there seems to be no complaints.

With the connectivity issues aside, over all my impression of the audio performance of the AVR 355 is still up to the standards of HK, which are great mids, punchy, does not compress at high volumes, never runs out of steam when driven hard, never ear piercing during loud movie passages, enveloping sound, detailed, sweet and full body when playing music and the design seems to be indistructible. Oh, and another thing, they have the sleekest and coolest design. Super pogi ;D

Actually there is one thing I admire most about HK home theater receivers, which is their great audio performance. For an HT reciever, my audio CDs sound really, really good through it. ;D

come check out the hk 255 and hk 355.  at the moment i haven't experienced any bugs with my hk 355. if ever there are bugs, there's a local distributor who'll take care of the firmware upgrades. :) come over to the shop to audition them. you can match them with jbl, infinity, polk audio and mirage. :)
