My bad, the sound setting wasn't set properly.  :-[ Didn't tick on the 5.1 and 7.1 audio formats after turning it on. Did it manually since the automatic mode didn't do it for me.  >:( Everything is bitstreaming well and the DTS HD MA display is now working.  ;D

Also a warning when using the new multi-output feature on the slim PS3.

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiomulti.html

bro, what is your indication that dts hd ma is working? did it appear on the receiver? i ticked the dd and dts that were unticked  and my receiver does not indicate any except pcm still...

Yes, lumabas siya sa reciever display. Also check if your HDMI sound setting is set to bitstreaming...

Nasubukan mo na? Hehehe... still to chicken to try it.  Anyway, AVR rin naman ito either way.  Still good to know that it will work 220v direct though.

Now... yung US version receiver ko kaya pwede rin 220v?  Hmmm...  hehe.

i was able to tinker with the PS3 and was able to get the dts ma hd to appear on the receiver, i though i had it sorted by ticking everything and i unticked all the possible pcm formats, although some are un tickable...dd is the only one that does not appear on the games hmm. although when the dts indicator appears it reall sounds like the voice dialogues seem farther or lower but all the effects are more defined..im trying to look for the thread to discuss this but i can't find it at the moment. Thanks

I don't have a BD disk yet so I haven't tried.  When using the ps3 to play BD, do you need the remote or can you live with the controllers as your remote?

Does anyone know what is wrong with my PS3?

It doesn't want to turn on! When i try to turn it n, the right light turns green from red for a second then turns back to red. I was watching a movie when it just went out. I'm not sure if it overheated but the signs for overhting as described in the PS3 website are not shown. I even have a fan at theback to help dissipate the heat. Deos anyone repair PS3's here? I bought it in Canada jst last summer. Many thanks!

Careful guys on the latest firmware upgrade

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/PS3/Sony/PS3s_Reportedly_Not_Playing_Blu-ray_Discs_after_Firmware_Update/3517

Thank you sir Moks for this info.  I am using my PS3 mainly as a blu-ray player so I suppose I don't really need the latest upgrades and improvements brought by the 3.01.  Guess I'll stay with my current version until this mess is straightened out.   :)

How do you configure the audio output?  I've checked off all i needed to check but i can't get out of the menu other than cancelling the changes.

And are there really more audio options for HDMI than optical?

RE5? it was released last may i think.. as i remembered it, the FW back then was FW2.86. Maybe when you played it, it automatically updated to FW3.01 which has an issue with the BD drive.. see below:

Hi Sir Von, I just bought nba live 2010 last night and I was scared nga to load and play it ;D (weird ha ;D, binili ko pero takot to play it haha ;D) I have the 60 gig early version and I'm scared nga it will brick my unit, bec these games come with the latest firmware. Anyway, I went ahead to load it up bec I cant resist ;D and it just says updating data game settings ata. I don't think its a 3.0 firmware, but will check later. So far, played the game and its perfect. Tonight is the big test, I will try playing a bd movie. The firmware I think speeds up the drive, so nasira tuloy mga bd drive.

Anyway the firmware version is there lang somewhere. ;D I have to look at the menu or maybe someone out there that really knows their ps3 inside out can tell you exactly where it is ;D.

Hopefully your ps3 will be fine. The most painful thing is most ps3 sold here are not legit, meaning launched and warrantied by Sony Philippines. This is our big problem imo.

Sure maam, ya gotta be careful, we don't want our precious system to conk out. I already have that bad experience with my xbox 360 when it got the 3 red lights for like 3 times. On the 3rd time it is  deemed unrepairable. Wasted 20 plus thou right there. Bad trip talaga :'( :'(

hi brader raymond! i have a 80GB PS3 bought here locally which did not have any problems when i was using it as my BD movie player. i actually cant remember when was the last time i played a BD movie using it, and last night ko lang ulit na try. I remember lang last March when my son first played RE5 it installed a new FW kasi after all of the settings was changed. The error i get when inserting BD movies is parang disc not recognized or parang disc incompatible. there is an error code na ibinibigay which changes  ??? i tried playing Sex and the City, Barry Manilow BDs initially nakikita siya but after i go to the settings and choose my desired audio ng hang na bigla and parang blank screen  :( i hope this does not mean i need to buy a new PS3 hu hu hu

When playing a game, does it install/update your PS3's FW? as far as I know, it doesn't update your PS3's FW unless you set the option to automatic update..

No complaints with the performance.  Played it for 8 hours straight at one point and never had a problem.  Works well with my Hori Arcade Stick, too.

Overall, it felt generally more responsive than my old Asian PS3 (which I have since sold).

I heart my slim.   ;D

Some BD's are slower to load than my old phat though, but they play fine naman.

for hdmi, you will get hd audio (dts ma and dd truhd) if you choose optical, you can only decode the classic dd and dts.
