Thanks sir iiinas,

So, this would also mean na it's either I could let my kids have a 2-3 hour session of playing during weekends or I could watch a good movie, double purpose ba sir? Excited na nga ko makapanood ng bd.

2 to 3 hours on weekends only? Good luck! :D If I was the kid I'd want to hog the PS3 every night if possible.

pwede nga. but dont worry about software, since i got into ps3 late too via the slim, there are a lot of great softwares to play via pre-own market. i visit pinoy ps' marketplace or even here in pdvd, there are a lot selling great condition ps3 software for 1k or less.  ;)

Japanese PS3s Get DVR Add-on

We’re still waiting for information as to whether we’ll be getting these in the US, but Japan finally got their DVR.

Torne is an adapter for Japanese PS3s that essentially gives the system DVR functionality. European markets were granted the privilege back in 2008, and Japan finally got it this week, but there’s no word on a US release.

Of course, it’s not just a tuner with recording capabilities. The Torne can schedule single recordings or series recordings like most DVRs but it also allows simple keyword searches of programs. When using Torne, you can set your PS3 to standby mode and it’ll pop on in time to record the show on the PS3’s internal hard drive, or onto an external drive connected by USB.

PSP owners get added functionality, as Torne can convert the video, for you to pop it onto a Memory Stick and let you play it right on your PSP. And of course, the PSP can be used to schedule and record shows through the remote play function.

It’s going for the equivalent of $110 in Japan. Don’t get excited about importing though, this isn’t going to work in the US.

Why won't it work in the US?

Magkaiba ata ung Digital TV tuners ng US at Japan. Also I don't it will work here since we're still using the old Analog NTSC tuning.

mga bros, me question lang me. I have Toshiba Regza full HD 1080p lcd and a PS3. I am using my ps3 to play my bd movies like the rock and Iron man. Maganda naman sya but nung pinhairam ko sa kabarkada ko, at pinlay sa HDTV nya na full hd rin but stand alone bd player ang gamit(samsung), parang mas maganda ung definition sa tv na lumalabas.

We have the same:
- 42" LCD with both 50,000:1 contrast
- hdmi cable ang gamit

but diferrent player lang. Di kaya mas maganda manood pagstand alone player instead of ps3? Ung iron man sa lcd tv nya mas klaro prang totoo e, ung sa akin parang 1080i lang. Ano suggestion nyo?

Thanks

It's possible that a dedicated Blu-ray player will have better quality hardware and software to render audio/video material better.

It's also possible he just had his TV's settings better adjusted for his environment. Or that you were only experiencing subjective bias.

Unless you do a side-by-side A/B/X test, you can't know for sure. Also—even if you can demonstrate that a dedicated BD player has better quality—is that something you really want and can afford, or are you happy enough with your existing set-up? A Lexus is a great car, but I'm happy with a Toyota (maybe I'll save up for an Audi, though).

EDIT: Heto practical suggestion—hiramin mo yung BD player niya. :agree:

Agree with alistair. nuper17, try to do a calibration on your LCD to achieve max viewing PQ.

Difference of Asian and US version
« Reply #2233 on: Jan 18, 2010 at 02:58 PM »
Ask ko lang on what is the difference/advantage/disadvantage ng Asian and US version ng PS3 slim?

Planning to get online content and not sure what works with its use here sa Philippines.

Thanks in advance

Would just like to ask since I am considering buying a PS3 instead of a dedicated blu ray player. My problem is what region of DVD can the PS3 play? Can it be multi region or just Region 3. I am asking this since my collection of DVD's are both Regions 1 and 3 and I am not planning to replace them all with Blu ray.

Thanks in advance for the help.

As of now there's still no known "crack" to make it playable in multiple region for DVD. Hence, the current situation is the PS3 is playable to its own made region. e.g. Asian edition will play R3 DVD only while US edition will play R1 DVD only. As for Blu-ray, both Asian & US share the same region so watching Blu is not a problem. If you really need to use your PS3 for your DVD then you may want to consider getting the PS3 edition that match your most DVD collection.

Or you can use your current DVD player. Also, with the price of the current DVD player, it's easier to buy an universal DVD player. ;D

The DLC you'll need is dependent on the region of the game you have.

Some games and their DLC are also region indepedent—that is, for some games even if they're R3 they're compatible with DLC from US (R1).

It's easy enough to create a PSN account for R1 or R3—it doesn't depend on what region your console is.

In other words, even with an Asian unit, you can create a US account for your R1 game to access R1 DLC, if needed.

The basic advantage of an all R1 setup is US sometimes gets DLC before everyone else. The only other 'region' with more downloadable stuff would be Japan—if you can speak Japanese :D

Good day sirs/maams, I'm having some problems with my PS3, I updated it's software last week to 3.15, games run fine, but when I tried to watch a recently bought District 9 BD with God of War III Demo, my monitor syas it's out of region, the BD is region free, I installed the GOW III demo, and it ran fine, strangely, some of the trailers before the featured film ran without problems...could it be the firmware (3.15)..could it be the monitor? It's fullHD, so I doubt it is the culprit, but I'll try to watch other titles aside from District 9 later.
Anyone encountered this? Thanks

Thanks uli sirs
So to summarize,
PS3 slim
A. DVD playing
Asian for R3 only
US for R1 only
No hack to become region free

B. BD playing
Asian can play both asian us
US can play both asian us
reason same coding/region for BD

C. Downloadable content (DLC)
Asian
US
Both dependent on the game you are playing so you can access both asian and us DLC

D. Playstation Network account
Asian
US
You can both create accounts on both units on both US and Asia PSN

Did I miss out anything?

If George Hotz cracked the iPhone with his jailbreak, I'm not surprised he could do it to the PS3.  Nothing is really unhackable.   Sounds real to me here  http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/

I don't find this as good news...game quality would and definitely will suffer...as what is happening to PC games...he said his "hack" doesn't support patches, as most of us know, Sony updates their consoles regularly to play games, even the game itself updates your console if needed. And lastly, I won't exchange online play for cheaper pirated games.
Hell, downloading 25-50 gigs of data would be a pain...then once you load it...corrupted...hahaha...
Getting your console banned is a pain...=)

I sure hope geohot gets to do it right so that a slim can be modded to be a true NMT, in addition to playing games and BD's.

With its raw processing power, coupled with a GPU, a PS3 will trump any NMT out in the market today.
