wow that sounds good bro! does this include the 40G version?

Hi kt,

Presumably yes.  There was no mention of PS3 versions in AVS so why don't you try it out yourself buddy and chime in on the link below:
http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=75947.0

PS3 is an awesome bluray player, feel that's academic already via this thread (and elsewhere), so was just wondering what other aces this nifty Sony device has up its sleeve.  :) Cheers!

Guys, Im in the market for a PS 3. Maybe this question has been discussed already but I cant find it i the thread. .... What PS3  memory (?) should I buy if the purpose is 60 % Blu Ray movies,  40 % for games ? Is the asian version better for Phil use , what about  the US version? Can we now buy PS 3 locally with one year warranty?

Personally, it doens't matter what version (Asian or US) para sa aking parehas lang.
Pero pag mas gusto mo white -- Asian. Pag black -- US.

For your purpose (60/40) I think 40GB will be enough.
Ganyan din ang purpose ko sa pag bili ng PS3 -- primarily as a BR player and secondary lang ang gaming.
I got the US version 40GB (with free Spiderman 3 BR).
Not regretting it :):):)

I've been looking at PS3 to be my Blu Ray player but i've been seeing a lot of cases wherein PS3 breaks down within a month or 3. I honestly dont know right now whether to go get myself a PS3 or just a plain BD player. Of course, PS is a real good deal, a console, a player and much cheaper than BD players in the market right now. I've read in other forums that there are about 1% of reported case of lemon PS3 but after continuously reading the forum and members testimonial, it seems that theres a lot more than 1%.

Hmmm.  ??? What should i get then?

i've been using my PS3 for 6 months na, Games/BD/Music etc... and on the pinoypsx.com, i can only count 4-5 members out of 176 registered PS3 owners who had the problem, and the offending part can be repaired/replaced at a cost though, but its not a total system failure, and until local BD players prices can come close to the PS3 price, it can't be beat ^_^

Huddaf,

IMHO even with BR players pwede ka ma-chambahan ng lemon unit. I guess nandun talaga yung risk once we start buying electronics/appliances. Hindi naman perefect yan mga yan even if they pass through a rigorous quality process.

Just focus on the good side of getting a BR player or a PS3 as a BR player. Siyempre sa PS3 aside from movies/music you can enjoy it as a game console.

most cases ng bd lens failure has happened in less than 3 months or so. That means you could easily spot that your unit is a lemon and could have it replaced under warranty if your store offers it. However, i think the failure rate is even less than 1% worlwide.

If you want a bluray player and is on budget this is the one to get. It is easily upgradeable thru firmware updates and just in case you have the money to buy a dedicated bd player, you can easily sell the ps3 at a price that wouldn't hurt you so much.

Besides, just get the cod4 and play online, its free anyway, sulit-na sulit na yan.

None so far. Many are still waiting (in vain?) for a FW that can enable PS3 decode DTS MA internally. ;D

Buti naman pinalitan ng binilhan ko ng brand new unit and they even reset the warranty!  ;D Yun nga lang, halos 3 weeks din yung hinintay ko. So far itong pinalit na PS3 eh OK pa. More than a month of moderate to heavy use (games and BD movies), nakakapagbasa pa ng mga discs!  ;D

I'm surprised to hear this but not sure where did you see "a lot cases within a month or 3" the PS3 breaks down. ??? As ctlim points out it could be some lemon units. Are those US or Asian editions?

I know many folks who own PS3 (majority Asian edition) & so far none has any problem yet. In fact I'm so confident with the PS3 built quality that I even risked getting a used unit in Nov 2007 without any warranty pa. After months of abuse, my PS3 is still going strong...no sign of deteriotion whatsoever.  ;)

Alvin,

After that mini-convention aka EB at your place, I always have always kept my PS3 in high regard. Granting that this was made with gamers initially in mind, Sony wanted it to stand abuse but not misuse.  It can easily be upgraded to the latest firmware and has a Hard drive and gaming capabilities to boot...but then most already knows this :D. My 20 y/o nephew's 1st generation PS2 has seen better days but still works flawlessly :o! But like any other thing it would require care and maintenance to live up to one's expectations. Bravo PS3! ;D

I bought my PS3 last November because I wanted an affordable Bluray player (and my Xbox360 was being repaired). Been happy with it ever since.

Though the Xbox360 has better library of games, the PS3 is more future proof.

I dunno if the graphics are the same, because i haven't seen the pc version. But the ps3 version looks impressive to me as i don't have a high powered pc. But playing online in the ps3 is fun and easy to connect. You can look at pinoypsx for second hand units of cod4 but the units are scarce as this is a good game really. Mostly are us version games so they are quite expensive
