pre amp plus integrated amp
« on: Nov 24, 2006 at 04:44 PM »
I have a pre-amp which I plan to connect to an integrated amp (whose pre amp section is inferior). Can I simply do this without causing any damage to the two equipment?

PRE-AMP --> INTEGRATED AMP (cd input) --> SPEAKERS

I plan to maintain the volume knob of the amp at 10 o'clock and the adjustments to be done on the pre-amp. Reasons are I like the phonostage of the pre-amp more than that of the integrated amp plus it has both treble and bass adjustments. TIA ;)
rock and roll is here to stay...........

doesn't your integrated have external pre- to main- connections, it's usually a metal jumper, at worst you'll need pliers to pull these out.

Not adviseable.  There'd be impedance mismatch between the pre-out and the integrated's line level input.  Preamps typically have 1k 1v output which can overdrive the line level input typically at 20k 100mv sensitivity.  If you just want the preamp's phono stage, use its fixed tape out line level output to connnect to your integrated's CD or aux input.  That way you only use the one volume control, that of your integrated.
