DVDs you own that are originals and remakes of a movie
« on: Sep 14, 2002 at 02:29 AM »
Do you guys have DVDs of an original and remake of a particular movie?

I only have:
Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho by Gus Van Sant

I was just curious about Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho, since I don't think anyone's done something like that before.  After watching it, well... not that it's a bad movie, but he didn't say anything new in the remake.  at all.

Especially because it made such a huge stink at the box-office in 1985. Even now, some critics still call it a cure to insommia.

A lot of reviewers consider Dreamworks' The Prince Of Egypt an animated remake of Ten COmmandments.  Whether or not it is, I have the former and am training my sights on the latter (R1).

There's also the two-versions of  Cape Fear , the older Gregory Peck starrer and the remade Robert de Niro flic.  Again I have the former which is excellently reviewed,  The older version will have to wait for another magnavision sale.

There's Oceans 11 starring Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and the new one starring Geroge Clooney, both under Warner.  Will save up for these.

The original version is a classic with vincent price, if you have not seen it, then you have to view it at least once.

as to contribute to this thread, i recently watched Disney's 1998 version of Parent trap and i really had a good time viewing this film.
now with the recent release of the 1961 version, i'm interested in viewing the original one too!

well, i finally had the pleasure of viewing Shop around the corner, it's in black and white but the film looked stunning for its age. i really recommend viewing this to everyone who have viewed YGM.

i was also surprised to find out that there was another remake prior to YGM, where they made this as a musical with Judy Garland...i hope this will come out in dvd too!, maybe i'll rent this if i ever see it.  :)

the movie was " in the good old summer time" (1949)
