oggs, how big are the boxes of amazon?

sometimes, NY uses volume weight to calculate the payables of shippers here in manila.  since i order from different online stores, i calculate via volume weight average and not by weight alone since i cant predict the size of the box.

 8)

Yes hem, I'm aware of volume weight. The 2dvd box is bigger than the 3dvd box, hence there's a real probem there. Also, sometimes the boxes are exactly alike and there's still a difference of 1lb from the actual weight. My guess is they just look at the invoice of shipper with USPS and they don't bother to weigh it themselves. The problem there is that the shippers don't really weigh their boxes, they merely estimate the weight, thus, the huge discrepancy.

It varies. It can be as fast as 3 days to as long as 2 weeks... at least from experience.

I think it is a problem of amazon rather than jac. I had the same problem last december. Amazon shipped my package in a huge box that was half empty when i opened it. Based on my conversation with leiden, jac is normally charged based on the weight indicated in the box, not the actual weight of the items.

Just for clarification, JAC is charging based on volume weight not on weight. I just had a nasty experience and yes...Beware of Amazon!  >:(

hence, JAC and Amazon don't mix quite well. i think past posts support this claim. for items other than dvds, i now use their balikbayan box option to save me moneys and prevent me from fainting... over and over again.

hubes.. you may inquire directly about rates.

what i did is order from different stores and requested JAC to place all the sealed boxes (as is) in one balikbayan box for sea freight.. which takes 30-45 days to be delivered to manila.

note: make sure that you order from US stores that use trackable methods of shipment.

Got my package last wednesday in megamall. Package actual weight is 4.17 lbs, but they round up to the nearest lb. so its considered 5 lbs. I had to pay $5 handling fee + 5.50/lb + 10% VAT so total is 35.75 dollars converted to pesos is 1,882. Medyo mahal pero less than one week nandyan na ready for pick up.

So I think next month 12% VAT na.  :-[

hey, im new to this online shipping, and was wondering if there is a minimum weight that JAC requires me to send? Also, do they buy stuff for you? There are some sites that only allow US based credit card. Im looking into buying some computer parts, as well as some collector's edition DVDs.

Thanks! Same rates pa ba sila?

Anybody know if there is an updated rate?  Is it $5.50 per pound + $5 handling fee + 12% VAT still for 1 week or less shipping duration?

First time to use their service...and wow!!!  Excellent service provided by Mam Leiden and the staff of their NY office, Greg and Jet.  The special rates given to PinoyDVD members surely helps a lot.  Great job in coordination too......thanks a lot.  :) :)

Hi Munskie, I've been combing this thread for that 'special PinoyDVD rate' you mentioned but can't find it? What's it about and how do I avail? Thanks!

Depends on the size of the store box. Amazon boxes are quite big so you have to consider the size before buying. DVDEmpire has the best packaging IMO. Small, compact, protected.

Smaller nga ang package sa DVDempire pero mas mahal price ng boxset nila for Alias or for any other TV series compared to Amazon.com...
