"300" - July 31, 2007
« on: Mar 21, 2007 at 06:12 PM »

Current box office behemoth 300 will be coming to DVD and hi-def with some cool extras, that according to Zack Snyder. Among the bonus materials planned are deleted scenes, including one sequence that proved too extreme for the final cut.

"It's these giants with these midget archers on their backs," Snyder said. "The [giants] have no arms. Their arms have been hacked off. They have these little elf-looking guys in these kind of wicker baskets on their backs. They're firing arrows and then the Spartan comes and hacks the leg off it. It falls and they leap off and stab the little elf. [It] just got so outrageous that when I looked at it I thought, "This is from another movie. It was crazy." The footage may be slightly incomplete, but fans will get the idea of how far Snyder would have gone had he put the scene in the film. "It's like 90% [complete], but it's pretty cool."

These are few other deleted scenes because Snyder included almost everything from Miller's graphic novel. "There are a few Ephialtes scenes we took out when we first see him, and he's looking down on the Persians," Snyder said. "It's just straight out of the graphic novel. You can look at the graphic novel and those are the two scenes that aren't in it. But we shot them."

To emphasize the influence of Frank Miller, Snyder hopes to include an interactive feature that includes art from the graphic novel as the movie plays. "You would actually see the Frank frame [within the movie screen]," he said. "Whenever it's the same as the movie, you would see that frame in the corner, and you could click on that."

That would be nice.  But nicer still if they included the original graphic novel with the DVD.  ;D   Like what some DVD releases of comicbook hereo movies do.

But why deleted scenes have to be just in the bonus materials and not integrated with the movie? I was hoping for an extended cut...

Steelbook might be too modern... but if the design has that shields those Spartans had used, why not?  ;)

It will be packaged in a wicker basket with a plastic figure of a severed Spartan head.   ;D ;D    And the DVD case will be covered in synthetic coagulated blood with some rubber entrails on it.    ;D  Para talagang gory ang dating.   ;D                    Just speculating.  ;D

Posted this already in the Film & TV Talk thread, but thought to add it here too:

According to davisdvd.com, the current street date of the 300 DVD is in August (although this may still change).

Naku ha! Ang tataas ng expectations nyo sa packaging nito, mamaya ma-dissapoint kayo big time pag Amaray casing lang ito. Hehehe! Pero ako din, I'm hoping for a unique and cool packaging for this.

I heard the DVD of this film would be available this fall.  But it's amazing a pirated true DVD copy complete with behind the scenes features is available this early. I know it's taboo around here to talk about pirated stuff.  Just FYI only.   ;D  Someone must have leaked the DVD materials for this film.  Rather than preempt my future purchase of the legit DVD, getting this one actually has whetted my appetite to get the fully featured one.  Hopefully it gets a steelbook packaging at least.   ;D

Maybe the features of that pirated DVD came from the Bestbuy Exclusive "300" Preview DVD that I saw in one post in another thread.
