High power is the way to go. Kasi after 300 hrs or so, bababa pa nang 30% yung light output nang ae1000. You can use your lamp al low power for the first 300 hrs, then when you notice a dimming of the picture , switch to high power. If you use 1.1 gain screen , you are limited to 80 inches, 1.3 maybe 90 inches. 2.8 around 120 inch.

Compromise is to get a non-tensioned Dalite or get the M2500 screen from draper which has a 2.1 gain. Its the same material I use at home. I use a fixed screen but I think they have a tensioned motorized model with this material.

when you install the ae1000, do not place it out back.  Maybe around 12 to 13 ft from the screen will do. You will loose maybe around 10% of its brightness from its wide mode instead of 45% if you are at the tele mode.

Ok, since you are set on getting the ae1000 and a screen size of 106 inch diagonal (92x52inch) 16:9 aspect ratio. The gain of the screen is very important. Some technical terms first, For a 106 inch screen which is around 33 sq ft in area you would need 430 to 775 lumens to have a illuminance of 12 to 22 footlamberts. This is the acceptable brightness that is the consensus of video experts. Below 12 ftL, the image will be a little dim, above 22 ftL, it will be very bright. Now for the ae1000, looking at the specs , it has 1000 lumens( almost all projectors are at least 1000 lumens at their brightest mode), so pasok siya if you will just get the manufacturer's data. But that is around 9000 K color temperature which is too blue. Lahat ay may blue tinge, hindi accurate ang colors. For the Panasonic, it is always the cinema 1 mode which is best. It's around 6900 to 7200k ( target color temperature is D65 or 6500k) but the light output drops to 295 to 400 lumens (depending on your lens zoom position). If you have a 1.3 gain screen and the PJ is at 11 ft from the screen, you will be happy with the PJ for the first 300 hours before the lamps output drops around 30% (400x1.3=520 and 520x.7= 364). As I have said before you need 430 lumens, for the first 300 hours OK ka, after 300 hours hindi na.

IN SHORT, you need a high gain screen, do not compromise that. As for the mount, I just used the ordinary PJ mount since after setup you will not touch it anymore. Your distance from the screen should be 10.3 to 20.8 ft, using a 106 inch screen. Viewing distance  is 10 to 15 ft.

ok thanks so much for you help..i'm planing to put the projector around 12.5 feet from the screen..the screen height would be 52" from the floor...i was planning to use a high gain screen kaso wala na akong mahanap na okay..i'm about to get the high power sana kaso wala syang tensioned screen which is what i needed..so un..thanks ulit so much sa help..by the way, where did you buy the ordinary pj mount? how much is it? thanks!

I made some calculations about the PJ/ Screen gain relationship of the Panasonic PT ae1000 and screen with different gains. The lumens data that I got are from the recent review of this PJ at Cine4home in Germany.  This might serve as a guide to owners of this Projector and the maximum size of the screen that they are buying. I am not connected with any firm and these are just my recommendations. You might use them or I may be contradicted by your dealer. Either way, its your decision.

Mode: Cinema1
                                                                           After 300 lamp hrs.
                           Screen Size                                  Screen Size         .
Zoom Position        Tele   Wide     Screen Gain              Tele - Wide      Screen gain

                            70"- 92"               1.0                   58"- 77"                 1.0
                            79"-106"               1.3                   66"-87"                  1.3
                            100"-132"              2.1                   84"-112"                2.1
                            116-152                2.8                   97"-128"                2.8

The screen size is base on a light output of 12ftL which is the same light output as a good theatre. As you can see. For a NEW AE1000 a 92" inch screen is sufficient and will be satisfy everybody but after 300 hrs., using this screen will result in a dim picture. If you must get a cheap screen, do not get more than 78 inches. For the more popular 106 inch screen a gain of 2.1 is a must. You can use the low lamp mode in the initial 300 hrs and then switch to high mode when the lamp has settled down.

Alvin,

Thanks for for your anaylysis.

In my case, since I am using a HD DVD player (toshiba xa2), will there be any difference in your calculation of ideal screen size and gain?

No, it will be true wether you use ordinary DVD or any HD source. I also am enjoying HD dvd since MAY of Last year (1st year anniversary na pala ako sa HD) ;D

Ok lang . Minimum distance using the PJ calculator is 10.3 ft. You will get a peak btightness of 9ftL using a 1.3 gain screen (according to Projector Central).  Get it a high as possible and it should be level. Use the lens shift feature to square the PJ to the screen.
