Is the heat emitted by the plasma panel significant to bring the ambient room temperature up specially for long viewing times? Would it be ok if the room is not airconditioned? TIA  ;)

i don't think so... kung malapit ka lang sa screen like ilang inches, then you will feel the heat. but then again, nobody does that when watching.

It's true that composite cables can only go 480i and can not go above that. Try using HDMI cable to maximize your tv and your ps3.

Thanks!   :) :)

Correct ka dian. ;D

How long would it take before a static image would create a burn-in in the plasma panel?  Considering that you are watching a TV program with a logo in the corner in a 45 minute to an hour uninterrupted program, would that cause a burn-in image?  Thanks!

Ei man, relax!  As I mentioned in my previous post, our beloved Plasma now employs 10th generation panel; this panel is so well engineered that "burn-in" is no longer a problem.  But I don't mean that our panel is already "burn-proof".  What I mean here is that the 10th gen panels are much more resistant to burn-in problem as compared to previous generations because of advanced manufacturing techniques.  That is why there is no more "break-in" instructions found in our user manual.

Still, permanent burn-in will definitely occur if we set the contrast and brightness to the max setting and display a static image for a very, very long time, in other word if we "abuse" the use of our Panel.  For everyday normal use, we dont set the contrast and brightness to max since it will hurt our eyes and the resulting image is not desirable anymore; and we dont display static image for a very, very long time.  Normal static images such as black bars in dvd movies, games, computer display and station ID's are not long enough to cause permanent burn-in, but it can cause temporary image retention.  The temp image retention will always fade away naturally.

Lets enjoy our Plasmas, set aside your worries!  Lets maximize the enjoynment of our investment!   :) :)

I noticed in my pv70h that it can have some Image Retention when less than 100 hours used.  I then went full screen all the time until the 100th hour.  After this, hindi na naulit mga IR.  I am now using my Xbox 360 elite set to 1080p via HDMI, about 4 hours per day.

Regarding Xbox 360, better get yours at Challenger in Singapore.  3 years warranty so no worries.

mga sir pwede po ba kayong mag post ng naka zoom na tv channel sa pana pv70 nyo? gusto ko lang tingnan kung kaya ko bang tiisin ang ganitong setting hanggang 100 hrs. wala yata akong pasensya sa ganito at baka magka burn-in lang ang plasma ;D. sana meron mga readily broken in (100 hrs) na mga units for sale para di na tayo mag sacrifice sa viewing and can enjoy right away.

fnvillafuerte, with regards to power consumption. May "significant increase" kaya if for example Im currently using a 200W CRT tv when I move to this plasma? I believe this consumes about 350W. TIA

When we say maximum, ibig sabihin nun yung panel natin ay nagdidisplay ng full white image at the brightest setting. Imagine a Plasma panel as hundreds of thousands of individual light bulbs laid side by side in a flat square surface, each bulb will consume certain amount of power depende kung dim lang or full bright ang sindi nya.  So if you watch snowy or summer beach, your plasma will consume more power as compared to watching Batman movies na puro madilim ang eksena.  The varied dark and bright scenes we normally watch in our panel will average to less than the rated 350W power consumption, probably only half that amount only.

For LCD, power consumption is almost constant because the backlight remains on all the time irregardless of the scene being displayed.  The liquid crystals merely blocks or unblocks the light coming from the backlight to produce bright and dim images.

In conclusion, you will not experince an increase in power consumption if you switch from your 200W CRT TV to the plasma tv.  Baka nga mas makatipid kapa ng konti eh...   :) :)

Pwede ba tong break-in method?

Hindi siguro advisable yan sir.

First, depende sa screensaver. You have to find a screensaver that has moving images on the entire screen and uses almost all available colors.

Second, medyo risky. :P

I recommend tuning into ABS-CBN or GMA (mabilis kasi mag-transfer sa generator ang mga yan pag may brownout sa station nila).  Zoom in at maximum to crop out station logos.  Break in for 10 hours a day x 10 days.

If somebody else broke it in for me, I will always doubt if a proper break-in method was used.

That is why there is no more "break-in" instructions found in our user manual.

Ang alam ko, never naman talaga nagkaroon ng instructions regarding break-in periods sa kahit anong user manual, not even during the time when plasma burn-in was prevalent.

addnl info from google.

What is the "break-in" period and what should I do during the break-in period to minimize any risk of image retention? When your plasma TV is initially installed, the first 100 hours of use is known as the "break-in period." During this time, to minimize any risk of image retention, you should:

   1. Make sure the plasma TV is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen. The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode.
   2. Turn down the Picture setting (in the Picture menu) to +0.
   3. Briefly engage the 4:3 mode and confirm the side bars are set to "Mid", or "Bright". This can be adjusted in the Set Up menu.
   4. Always return the display mode that fills the screen (such as Just, Zoom, Full, or H-FILL).
   5. Try not to view channels with stationary backgrounds or logos for extended periods of time.
   6. Avoid extended display of static images (video games, computer images, DVD title screens, etc.).

I started mentioning the Panasonic FAQ on break-in on Aug. 20, '07:

Just follow Panasonic's plasma FAQ break-in advice:

...

From http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PlasmaFAQ?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&langId=-1&catGroupId=24973

As I said, there have never been any break-in instructions on any user manual, although break-in instructions can be found all over the web.

There are 2 reasons why I say that burn-in and/or IR are still risks:

1.  Until now, Panasonic still has break-in instructions on its internet FAQ.
2.  Until now, no plasma manufacturer has ever offered any warranty aganst burn-in/IR.

Apparently, someone came up with a "Plasma Break-In DVD" which is supposed to ease and maximize the benefits of the break-in process.  Just download the file from the site below, burn the file into a DVD and run it continuously.  However, I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of this method since I have not tried it yet.  You can download the DVD Image Format from this site:

1. Have you noticed that watching standard DVDs (in widescreen - aspect ratio 1.85:1) doesn't completely fill the    whole screen? there's still space for 2mm on top.

2. Also the topmost line (about 2mm also) and bottom lines bars appear brighter or lighter than the rest?

Are these normal?
thanks.

edit:
>> These happen when I'm using 720p. But not when I'm using 480p.
>> What resolution do you guys use for the panny? I'm using a pioneer 696 dvd player.

hi just got my panasonic plasma. just want to clarify if i still need to "break in" the tv for the first 100 hours. yung iba kasi sabi kelangan, yung iba hindi. i just bought the tv for my ps3 so it kinda sucks if i need to wait after the 100 hour period before i can use it with my ps3. so a definite "no break ins needed" thing would really be a relief. otherwise, i dont have a choice but to make sure. thanks!
