The prices, which we had emailed to PinoyDVD members, are much (very much) lower than what we are offering at the shop.  Hence for the Shangri-La 3 days sale, we will just open the Pinoydvd pricing to all walk-in shoppers.  Only for 3 days that the regular customers can avail of PinoyDVD prices.

For the 3 days Shangri-La Sale, nothing much will be offered to PinoyDVD members.

Talagang special naman ang mga PinoyDVD members.  They get sale price everyday!!

Hi Vic,

Thanks for the Spyder calibration your guys did yesterday!
Even if my Panny's PQ is already top-notch out-of-the-box, your free Spyder calibration made its PQ even better.

Thanks for appreciating our service. Medyo nadelay lang ang service, but it came pa rin at the last minute.

Thanks for the complements. Enjoy the TV.

The sensor (as shown in the picture) which is connected to a laptop will placed on the surface of your tv screen and then an accompanying calibration dvd will be played. After the tests are done, the computer will give the recommended settings that will optimize your picture and color suited for your particular TV and ambient lighting conditions. I think only Sights and Sounds offers this tv pic calibration. I got this service for free when I bought my plasma from sir Vic  ;)

@chris69ners

Thank you.  :) ganun ba yun.

thanks again

Mga sir a similar entry-level device is available at Amazon for only $69, Spyder as well.

Some Spyder models are for PC monitors only.  Make sure you read the model specs first before getting one.

is there a big  difference in picture quality when you use an upscaler like pioneer
dv600 instead of an ordinary player?

other forums will say that the internal upscaler of the plasma tv is enough unless
you are using a special upscaler.

I think main reason for using dv600 is bec of the hdmi connetion which gives a better picture quality compared to using a component cable atleast thats what I observed ;)

if 10%, malamang i'll go with dv600, unless there are recommended newer models.

I would really recommend the dv600 im using it on my pv70 and the pq is really great (nde pa calibrated yun plasma ha what more kung macalibrate pa for free tomorow ng sights n sounds hehe.. sir vic plugging)

I even try my DivX movies and the pq is relatively close to SDVD and na-decode pa nya yung audio from AC3 (Divx) to 5.1 using the dv600 it really looks like your watching dvd kahit divX lang...

Finally got me a PV70 last tuesday.  A little backgrounder before sharing my comments.
2 weeks ago, i saw an ad on the newspaper that Abenson is having a sale. Luwas kami that week because my wife wanted a laser treatment sa Greenhills. We passed by Abenson and had a look at their displays. Muntik na kami bumili ng worth Php 75000 na Philips or Samsung 32 or 37 inch LCD's. Buti na lang nakapagpigil si Misis. We proceeded to Trinoma to do some shopping. Fortunately nadaanan namin ang Theaterworks and we were able to look at the Panasonic 42 incher. AWESOME. Compared to the LCD's of different sizes we saw before that were playing dvd's and hd's, the picture quality of the Pana especially when playing DVD's, the size fo the screen and the price offered, got us hooked. We didn't buy that day because that was the first time i considered a plasma. Had to do some research because it got me wondering on why is the plasma being sold at a very low price, considering it's size and features. ( Matagal tagal na panahon kasi akong di tumitingin sa mga Large TV's because i thought i could never afford one. Although i was into this hometheater thing years ago. Kaya nga luma na akong member. When the first large screens came out, nainggit lang ako kaya nagbalik moviehouse na lang ako)
So my research on plasmas and lcd's made me remember this site where i'm sure there will be reviews and comments regarding these things. Buti na lang nang maglog-on ako, buhay pa ang pangalan ko. :) Read this thread. Got an even better deal from Sir Jeff and the rest is history...

I just want to take this oppurtunity to thank all the posters on this thread. I and my family are now enjoying each others company as we get to watch movies together at home. Before, when my wife asked me if we should go ahead and buy this unit, i told her. Ako kasi mas masayang nasa bahay at nanunuod ng dvd movie with my family than go out and have a drink with friends. ;) :) :D ;D.

Thank you sir jeff sa discount.

Pasensiya na sir vic mas accessible kasi sa amin ang trinoma.

Again thank you sa mga members ng PinoyDVD.

I had the opportunity of calibrating this display for my friend. I was very surprised that with Cinema mode and Warm Color temperature setting, I got a reading of 6800K from 20 to 100 I.R.E. This is indeed a very good display device. Brightness was set at 40 to increase the sets dynamic range. Gamma was at 2.1. With Greyscale calibration made, The set was at 6500K across the whole luminance spectrum. My point is, out of the box, the set is GREAT, with calibration it's SPECTACULAR

Equipment used: Colorfacts 7.0 w/ Eye1pro Spectrophotometer.

how do you guys find the internal scaler of the PV70?  I have tried my phillips dvd (non-upscaling) with the PV70 via component and I'm not happy with the PQ.  There are jaggies all around.  Do you think I really should get an upscaler?  Will this give significant improvement?

I'm not going HD soon coz of the format war and I want to enjoy my SD dvd collection on the PV70 so i think right now a good upscaler is my only choice.  Or is it?

Have you tried to play several dvd's. I am using a generic dvd player (ACE- No upscaling). I played a pirated copy of I AM Legend, just to see how it would look on my Pana. No jaggies.
I also tried ICE Age I ( "Again pirated and again no jaggies). I also compared the PQ from a generic dvd player and my laptop upscaled to 1080p which the Pana recognized. No significant difference.

Does this mean that  you don't need a dvd upscaler? No, it probably means i don't have an eye for detail :-[
I guess you are the best judge of the situation. Try playing several dvd's. Once you got a good copy, maybe you should bring along your copy and your dvd player to a store and compare it with a good dvd upscaler.  Happy hunting!!!

threw in a couple of origs and p***d dvds.  well to be fair not all of them have noticeable jaggies.  a p***d dvd 9 got very good pq, way better than some origs.  now my question, would this pq improve if i get an upscaler?

yeah, i need to audition and try it but it will help if anybody can share their experience.

thanks

Gusto ko sana. Pero nakakatakot. You have to go to the Service mode to do it. If you mess up just 1 parameter , it might make the PQ worse than before. Without calibration, just have the set at WARM temp. and Cinema mode. Bringdown Brightness to 40 to 42 and dont change any other setting. You are then at 6800k, just 300k away from the target which is VERY GOOD. If you are using spyderTV, this will probably be the recomendation also. With spyderTVpro, you might use the Service mode menu but I find the probe of the spyderTV a little off in accuracy, pero maganda na rin. Hindi naman yata tama kung pareho accuracy, kasi SpyderTVpro is around 599(?) while colorfacts is 4500 w/the I1pro. ;D
