The model is being phased out already. Only units left are Panasonic Phil units. SRP 79,950  :o :o :o. The 52k models are the grey market units (bumbai). These may soon be harder to come by, my source tell me that Panasonic Phil will be going after any AV stores that would sell grey market units. Hopefully di sana mangyari. Also the newer models (PV80 and PY800) will initially be sold high and will eventually go down in time, maybe next year... :P :P :P

yup its true, they will be going after all the av stores that sells grey units now. Had a meeting w/them 2mro regarding the issue. By the way 42pv80 is now available Panasonic Phil warranty. ;)

The last character is the region code that indicates where the TV is distributed.

swerte lang talaga ng buyers natin dito may mga enthusiast na nagbibigay ng advice and resellers na marunong talaga .. ;D

Plasma for HTPC

@Panasonic 42PV70 / LG 32" Plasma TV owners

Same din ba desktop area or mas konti?  Malinaw rin ba for HTPC lalo na sa texts yung Panasonic 42PV70 kahit hindi 1:1 pixel mapping/aspect ratio nya (1:1.33)?

Pixel Mapping Explained: http://pixelmapping.wikispaces.com/Pixel+mapping+explained

I hope somebody could explain for the benefit of others who are also interested on getting a Plasma for HTPC display.

Thanks in advance! =)

I'm also planning to use the Panasonic TH-42PV70 for HTPC use, as soon as I get my TV I'll try to post some pics for everyone's benefit :)

The Panasonic has a resolution of 1024x768, but since it uses rectangular pixels, it can show the image in widescreen format.  This makes me believe that displaying a static image (like a word document) on the TH-42PV70 will show a slightly stretched image because of the rectangular pixels.  However, I'm not really sure of this because I believe the Viera engine is supposed to extrapolate the image to the native resolution so that the image looks "normal".  The best way to determine is to take actual pictures or have E-Reply or Nemesis91 set a demo for you.  Bring a notebook or your HTPC as well :)

This also might be the reason why some people in other forums prefer getting the 50" inch model over the 42" model because of the more native 1366x768 resolution.

As i had concluded before. The best of plasmas should be at least 50" or bigger. Lcds should be 40" below for better viewing.

there was a post by nemesis about htpc connected to a 42pv70 and the results were not good. he labelled it as "kalat" ang fonts. the 50 incher are better daw kasyi true 720p resolution panel

Ah ok, thanks for the info :)

Well to be honest, I really don't plan to use the TV for browsing the internet or reading documents.  I just want to connect it to a HTPC or a DViCO TViX player so I can watch HD anime on a big screen hehe! ;D

Getting a plasma or LCD TV with 1366x768 resolution or 1920x1080 resolution will probably perform better as a PC monitor because both widescreen resolutions are supported with current videocards.  Anyway, this should not stop anyone from using their Panasonic TH-42PV70 as a PC monitor, just enjoy it and make full use of a great TV :)

totoo yan, marami nang nagkalat na pirated na dream satellite tv dito sa pilipinas at maging sa ibang bansa
pero wag yan ang kunin mo, sun satellite yan, hindi na yan gagana pag umuulan, "sun kasi eh"
hindi nga legit, hack na kasi yung nagravision1 na encryption. the codes are usually posted on many internet forums. matipid nga yan, walang monthly subscription na 890 pesos.

FTA po tawag dyan but if I were you, wag muna ...i heard na ongoing ang upgrade ng security ng dream. They are saying that they will be going to N3 and current FTA boxes will not be usable once matapos na ang upgrades :)

4. What is the "break-in" period and what should I do during the break-in period to minimize any risk of image retention? When your plasma TV is initially installed, the first 100 hours of use is known as the "break-in period." During this time, to minimize any risk of image retention, you should:

Make sure the plasma TV is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen. The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode.
Turn down the Picture setting (in the Picture menu) to +0.
Briefly engage the 4:3 mode and confirm the side bars are set to "Mid", or "Bright". This can be adjusted in the Set Up menu.
Always return the display mode that fills the screen (such as Just, Zoom, Full, or H-FILL).
Try not to view channels with stationary backgrounds or logos for extended periods of time.
Avoid extended display of static images (video games, computer images, DVD title screens, etc.).
