Bakit mo naisip yun? Meron ako a few SACD and DVD Audio but ... after some listening and research, iniisip ko baka placebo lang. If there is a clear audio improvement, investment ako sa kanya but I'm not convinced.

brader the emotiva will be used as power amp to futher enhance the SQ of the HT set up and not for 2 channel Audio listening I believe. Im also leaning towards this direction but will only consider an XPA3. I think sir mark will get the 5 channel.

Try listening to a multichannel audio coded concert and you will hear the difference. Sound fidelity is really to be desired in 2 channel listening but a multi channel coded concert or audio is a diffrent animal all in all. I have heard concerts in DTS 96/24 formats and its really very good.

sir mark please correct me if im wrong.

Yup. May mga concerts din ako in 5.1. And you are perfectly right. It's a different story. I was implying to sir mark re SACD & DVD audio in multi channel configuration.  ;D  ;D

Ah ok. Actually, the Denon 4311 is supposed to be able to handle digital input of SACD. I haven't tried that yet. Try ko nga.

Yes, I will use the Emotiva for the HT. 5-channel sya. Binili ko mainly so that I use only external amps. I want the Denon 4311 to behave purely as a preamp/processor. Gusto ko maalaga ang AVR cuz I think I'm going to keep it for some time.

Also, the Emotiva is rated down to 4 ohms (which I need) and it's on sale. Mabuti na rin that I have excess power amps.

Insofar as SQ is concerned, I don't think there will be any improvement, even if I use pure external amps for 11 channels and 4 subs ... but maybe there will be a placebo effect!  ;D

Haha! That's an accumulation of a lot of things -- pj has very good built-in optics and has been calibrated through a spectrophotometer and state-of-the-art software, high-gain screen, further calibration through VideoEQ Pro and even further calibration through DVDO IScan VP50 Pro.

My simple gauge for video excellence is that the image must look 3D. The picture should have "pop". Right now, I think I've achieved that, provided the source is good. Fortunately, the Pacquiao fight is excellent quality.

There's a supposedly better SQ bacause of the 24bit data vs the 16bit dvd. Sir, updates kapag na-try niyo na ha. Thoough alam ko maganda ang SACD player niyo. The DAC of the SACD player along, maganda na.

What I meant was that I doubt if there will be improvement in SQ because of the change of power amp.

Kung sa SACD naman, in theory, 24 bit should be better than 16 bit ... but let's see.

salamat po. hehe

Master Nelson,

DVDs can carry 24-bit audio (besides, sir Mark has tons of Blurays ata), SACD uses DSD encoding (Delta-Sigma modulated data). However, most receivers that do support DSD over HDMI still convert the data to PCM (because the hardware doesn't support DSD natively). It's more expensive to implement a DSD-native system din kasi, and is not to the best interest of buyers who'd be using the unit for movies mostly (since PCM might have to be converted to DSD, unless the system handles both).

Last year, I hosted an EB which featured 2 x SVS PB13 Ultra subwoofers of Mike C. That was the deepest bass that I ever felt in my room. Actually, there are not that many movie scenes with such deep bass and Pinoydvd members are, by now, quite familiar with a lot of them, including Master and Commander, Incredible Hulk, War of the Worlds, Flight of the Phoenix and The Haunting.

The 2 Ultras shook my room with deep but controlled bass. It wasn’t just SPL but bass below 20 Hz. In fact, the Ultras were tuned to 15 Hz. It’s really quite a unique experience to experience this type of bass because in normal life, wala namang dinosaurs or Hulk or ghost or alien so I guess you need to hear a cannon roar and that’s pretty rare. Being able to experience this in your own room, at will, is pretty cool.

I wasn’t really planning to get 2 Ultras but recently, one thing led to another and within 24 hours, I had the 2 Ultras in my HT (someone else got the third Ultra na nasa pic na kinuha ni Iiinas). I didn’t realize till yesterday that each Ultra weighs 155 pounds and I had to bring this up to the third floor. I had to use 5 people to do it.

I swapped my 2 x SVS PB12-NSD subs with the 2 Ultras (2 PB12's will be up for sale soon). This means that I now have 2 Ultras and 2 Paradigm Servo-15 v2 subs. The key was to match each Ultra with a Paradigm and then make sure that the Ultras were slightly louder than the Paradigms.

I calibrated the speakers with Audyssey MultEQ Pro and the charts showed that at 15 Hz, the subs were only 3 db down – that is exceptionally good. Next was the listening test and sure enough, I achieved the same bass shake as during last year’s SVS EB. It’s pretty incredible, especially with The Haunting.

Next time na lang ang pictures. Anyway … it’s black.

So that’s the story of my minor upgrade. Susunod ang story ng MAJOR MAJOR upgrade but I think that will require some pictures.
