Paul;

Great pics. Care to share camera settings, lens type etc.? Did you us multi flash units? Shot in raw and did processing work? I know how hard it is to take indoor photos that are as sharp as those.

As for the HT, dayum!.

Hi Paul! Thanks for visiting my HT and watching the new Star Wars BD! Your HT is still among the best in pinoydvd!  :)

This is the first time I've seen these subs. I think they are Focal Sub Utopia EM's. Their drivers don't have permanent magnets. Instead, they use powerful electromagnets. Looks like they use 16" woofers. I don't think there is an SRP yet.

I see. That's similar in tech to the Grande Utopia EM's 16" woofer then. :)

Yes. There's a dedicated power supply for the electromagnet of the woofer. Quite unusual nga. Ordinary magnets have certain physical limitations. The electromagnet-powered woofer has up to 4x less distortion than an ordinary woofer. Frankly, though, I haven't heard it yet. Hopefully, soon.

Aside from the EM motor, ang ganda ng passives ng Grande Utopia.  :)

Kung mag Grande Utopia EM si Sir Mark, baka maging pang wide channels na lang yung Maestro.  :o

Tapos dedicated bass amps for the EM drivers.  8)

Di pwede yan. D kasya. My room would need to be about 10 feet wider which means I'd need a new house. Hopefully, in 10 years time.  :)

Ayun o, antayin namin yan sir. :) Though maski na sa current room, for the meantime pwede naman adjust yung curve ng LF output nung Grande EM. ;)

Consider this -- The electromagnet (EM) of the Grande Utopia serves only the 16" bass woofer, which goes from subsonic up to 80 Hz. From there, the 11" mid-bass driver takes over and it doesn't use an electromagnet. Therefore, only the frequencies up to 80 Hz benefit from the EM.

The Stella Utopia has an EM which serves a 13" woofer that goes up to 220 Hz. Therefore, the benefit of the EM is felt all the way up to 220 Hz, and those are very critical frequencies.

In a way, the Stella Utopia has more value than the Grande Utopia.

Both are truly wonderful speakers, I am sure. I would think that the desired performance above 80Hz is achievable with a more conventional motor design though, which is probably why Focal went with that for the Grande EM's dedicated midbass.

Limiting the bandwidth fed to each driver type and designing specialized enclosures for each should also have its advantages. The ability to focus/aim the drivers in the vertical axis is also an added plus.
