Titus BS revisited

I had a chance to audition the Titus using the 8" black Scanspeak driver - wow!  :o I have to say I prefer the scanspeak over the polypropylene cone as it sounded more natural, sweeter and smoother across the frequencies ;)

Hope you guys could get a chance to audition and compare both Titus drivers so you'll know which suit you best.........and as a test parameter, try to listen to 1 speaker only (not stereo) and compare ;)

Yeah, it is still sealed. Infact, both master anthony and I debated over this last night. I still was pushing for a ported center, but master was still persistent in having it sealed.
oh well ::)

Sir, 91db lahat. (FS,Center, BS)

Question, shouldn't a sealed center have a lower sensitivity?

I think having two woofers would counteract that though. If they're well-coupled, they should raise sensitivity by 3dB, with everything else being the same.

Good point sir Ivan :) Unfortunately, not as I've heard it.
But who knows, maybe master Anthony has a few tricks up his sleeve ;)

Kung movies ang application mo, as per Anthony's recommendation, go for Onkyo, pag music, dependa na yan sa taste mo Brader ;)

I'm basing my observation on the SVS center channel, since it's sealed the sensitivity is below 85 db.

Sir Mards,

Did he happen to wire the exact same drivers as the BS in series? Or does he have them in different coil configs to make the dual woofer speakers of a similar final impedance to the single woofer ones? I'm thinking that this might be the reason for the lower perceived output, as this would drop voltage sensitivity by 3db, cancelling the gain from the increase in cone area.

Did Sir Anthony mention other reasons din why he is sticking with the sealed design? I'm thinking baka cabinet volume issue (masyado na lalaki yung kahon), or baka as a compromise since most people don't have speaker stands for the center speaker (less interaction/anomalies with a portless design).

I'm basing my observation on the SVS center channel, since it's sealed the sensitivity is below 85 db.

Heya Angelo,

With everything else being the same, a ported speaker should gain output around the tuned port/enclosure resonance frequency. This can be used to extend the speaker's frequency response, raise spl, or a mixture of both.

However, the more limited frequency response of a sealed speaker will naturally measure lower in terms of sensitivity (typically measured with pink noise), but may not be as weak as expected in terms of output spl in actual HT use (where the input signal has a different spectral content... in this case, it's bandwidth limited). The SCS-02 should output significantly in excess of the rated 84.5dB with 2.83V, if the feed frequencies are above ~100Hz.

This also explains how most HTIB systems can get loud enough despite the low wattage and low speaker sensitivity.

Hi sir Ivan,

Im merely an observer (.....and sometimes an instigator din :D ) when it comes to a-audio, so I leave the technicalities and mechanics of making a speaker solely to master Anthony.
As for the inconsistencies, I cant really tell if its the xover wiring, enclosure or the absence of a port that kinda made it sound differently from the L&R - but for me, they just didnt sound sonically the same ::)
Maybe if measured thru proper instruments, anthony may have been right on the money........or maybe on those two separate occasions that I auditioned it my hearing was off  ::) Who knows, right?

Anyway, I have heard branded speakers that have center speakers that sorta didnt match the left & right set - so maybe making a center speaker that matches is really a hard task to do. However, my point here is - could a sealed speaker be sonically matched with ported speakers? Wouldnt that be so much harder to accomplish?
I really dont have any qualms if a speaker is sealed or ported, but if my observations are true - then I would probably buy 3 center speakers for my LCR setup to have a seamless and matched front stage.

In my own experienced, mas gusto ko yong front ported na center speaker. Mas may clarity ang vocals at malambing. From Mr. Macdon ,Buy 3 center speakers for my LCR setup to have a seamless and matched front stage. Mr. Macdon, I think it's the SVS speakers. :)

The Mordaunt Short Mezzo series matches a sealed center with the rest of the speaker series being ported. I haven't listened extensively to the center though.

Yes, A-audio is stepping up it's game  ::) ::)

Notice the A-audio logo, that's now officially the A-audio logo.

Many thanks to Edwin Martinez for the wonderful pics.

The Titus with the white OEM woofers are in very limited supply. After that the black Scanspeak woofers will be used for regular production. (Still, the Scanspeak woofers are no regular woofers and there's no slouch in the performance)
Better make your purchase fast  ;D

Same as the eyes having highlights due to soft box or strobes when shot. Any black glossy finish being photographed will have this inherent problem, you just have to creatively use it.

The Titus is a monster. With its weight and dominance it can be the main attraction in any sala or home entertainment area. I was able to test this after the shoot and was able to hear details I never heard from my current system. Bright but just right is my best description for the Titus and it is an ultimate HT must have.
