i have a feeling the pistons will lose this series, i hope im wrong :o

things to consider:

1. all 4 games between the pistons and sixers during the season, decided by 8 points or less.
2. sixers are 10-0 in 1st round series when they win the opening game.

Salamat. Why do I suddenly long for the days of Sky Cable's NHK feed? I still remember watching the Bulls-Jazz game when Jordan had the stomach flu. Live clear feed with no commercials. Hay those were the days... hehe...

He comes off the bench so technically he's a "Sixth Man". He can easily be a starter though ;D

I think he came off the bench 51 of the 74 games he played.   I dont know the exact NBA ruling on being a sixth man nominee.

The NBA should change rules regarding the sixth man. Just imagine Kobe or LeBron coming off the bench. And if SA becomes champion, Manu will be Sixth Man and Finals MVP.

Yeah, but not for any team. I wouldn't start him on the Suns. That would be too reckless ;D

Im on level on what bumblebee is thinking.

The NBA ruling is simple:

To be eligible for the award, a player must come in off of the bench in more games than he starts. The winner is voted on by a group of basketball journalists.

But come to think of it, to be more appropriate, the sixth man should not play starter's minutes too.

Ginobili and Barbosa's minutes per game average are 31 and 29 minutes respectively.

That's the thing, they come off the bench but play for the majority of the game, even finish the game or in manu's case take the winning shot ;D Lets turn it the other way around, how about a "sixth man" getting props and be named to the all nba team?

2007-2008    Manu Ginóbili     San Antonio Spurs   31mpg

After researching.......I am pretty sure that Manu's award is legit.   He's not even the winner with highest minutes played on the average.   That belongs to Kevin McHale, at 34 mpg.

For me, the sixth man should not be all-star caliber.
IMHO, it shouldnt matter what caliber the player is.  If I have the power to change eligibilty rules for the nominees, here are my take:

1.  Should come off the bench 60% of the games he played.
2.  Should not average more than 28 mpg  (I just feel more than this, you are already playing starter's minutes)

Then the media voters can choose who they think is the most productive bench player and whose contributions greatly helped the cause of the team.

Classic example based on my criteria

1.  Toni Kukoc--  95-96   13ppg on 26mpg, becoming the third wheel in the magical 72-10 season of the Chicago Bulls.

2.  Ben Gordon--  04-05  15.1ppg on 24mpg, helping the Bulls come back to the play-offs for the 1st time since the Jordan era.

@  I was wondering as I was posting the list of the winners...no Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson of the old Piston Bad Boys?

But Munskie, the sixth man can't be your team's best player. Manu has been a go-to-guy for the Spurs most of the season. All-star caliber players should be nominated for the MVP, not the sixth man award.

I admit Kukoc is all-star caliber (I should have qualified my post, my apologies). But Pippen and Rodman are too.

Oh well, only 1 of the 124 media voters might agree with you.   Manu got 123 first place votes.   It doesnt matter if he is the Spurs best player this season.  He is eligible.  Yes, he is an all-star caliber player, but he came off the bench more than he started.   Just happened that his contribution has been somewhat more meaningful all season long against his more celebrated teammates like Parker and Duncan.

On the other hand, if the NBA hears my plea on my criteria, no superstar or all-star caliber will qualify.   No player of that caliber will play for paltry average of less than 28 minutes per game.    ;)

But if  someone puts up all-star caliber numbers within that limit, then he truly deserves the NBA Sixth Man awardee.

The more Chris Paul puts up huge numbers, the more I believe that Dallas made a mistake in trading for Kidd while giving up Harris and Diop.
