Especially going down on transition. There were a number of backdoor cuts that opened him up for a dunk.
Expect the same thing with SA, he's gonna be matched with Oberto, Thomas and Horry so advantage goes to Odom (plus he can stroke the trey every now and then).

People are underestimating the length of Gasol on D. Just like Munskie mentioned, he'll never be a banger dow low but he defends well with those long arms. Plus Jackson is sure to have something up his sleeve against Duncan, Parker and Manu.

My sleeper -- Vujacic. He's been shooting a good percentage in their past 2 series. Plus he's very agressive on D. Manu will sure have his hands full with Kobe and Vujacic shifting on him.

Plus, Kobe is the only player that gives the Spurs a run for their money. If you don't believe me, dig up the stats.

Pardon me bro, if your a Laker fan you should have remembered the few times Mr Horry bailed them out when he was still a Laker. No three peat for the Lakers, for Phil, Shaq and Kobe w/o BIG SHOT ROB by their side during those days. This guy's a winner, he is one of the very few perhaps the only NBA player in NBA history that is lucky enough to win multiple championships (not on the bench ha but as contributor) for every team he plays for. 2 (back to back) w/ Houston, 3 peat w/ LA, 2 (alternately) w/ SA. A lucky charm indeed to w/c ever team he lands. Yes Nash and West knows him defensively, now its time for KB24 to know him DEFENSIVELY too.

Not sure about West's, but the hip check on Nash was cheap. The guy's 6'3", 178lbs.

Anyway, how to beat the Lakers? Make Kobe shoot 30+.

Right now he's not yet doing it. I think their strategy is to make other shoot the ball first and then Kobe will do his job in the second quarter or second half.

There is nothing to blame but the Spurs in losing Game 1. They became complacent after establishing a 20-pt lead. Lakers defence also did a great job in stopping Ginobili and Parker. Bawi na lang sa Game 2.

Random Thoughts on Game 1.

1. The Spurs were very successful in their pick and roll offense early on. They went away from it in the 2nd half, relying mainly on Duncan's post isolation.

2. Odom tried early early on to assert his speed advantage over the Spurs big men, but was unsuccessful. Oberto and Horry did a good job putting up a brick wall, resulting in numerous missed lay-ups by Odom.

3. Vujacic is an underrated defender. He was mainly responsible for limiting Manu Ginobili to 3-13 shooting.

4. The Laker bench outplayed the Spurs bench, not much in numbers, but in energizing the tempo. Farmar and Vujacic were the primary contributors. The Spurs bench was non-existent, save for Uduoka. Finley was 0-5 overall, all of them on 3point attempts. Overall, the Laker bench was +30 for the game (Vujacic was +25), while the Spurs bench was -25 (Finley was -21).

5. Kobe Bryant must be aggressive early on. He doesnt have to dominate in scoring, but he cant do a passive 2 point first half against the Spurs again. They are too smart and disciplined to let a 20 point lead vanish again.

The problem with the spurs is they are prone to long dry spells, and they are not fast starters. I like the spurs' chances when manu is invloved in the scoring which was not the case in this game.

They went scoreless for 6.5 minutes in the 4th.
