I agree w/ travelling but that would too close to call.

I didn't watch but were the Lakers in penalty then?

yes.  too close.

Yes, the Lakers were in the Penalty.  If called, 2 FTs to tie.

The none call is good. Barry should have taken the shot.

good of the spurs not to contest the call. the contact didn't alter barry's shot. anyway if they did complain that would be kinda hypocritical, considering that bowen deliberately fouled lebron in game 3 of the finals last year in a similar situation, and got away with a non-call.

and, yes, they lost the game way before that. more than any other factor, i think the lakers' defense does not get enough credit. the spurs are the best in the league at swinging the ball around the perimeter, and the lakers' rotations are unbelievably quick enough to recover. (manu not being himself makes it slightly easier, but does not take away from the lakers' outstanding defense.)

on the negative side, that was bad game management by kobe and co. at the end of the game. rushing shots, not setting up plays well, etc. they can't give the defending champs any room in the next game.

^ I agree.  The Spurs have no one to blame (certainly not the refs) but themselves for that loss.  They should have played well enough not to be placed in such a situation.  Good thing Barry didn't pull off an acting job on that play and exaggerated the *impact* of Fisher's move.

I hope LA closes this out on Friday and won't disappoint the way they did in 2006 against the Suns after leading 3-1 in that series (esp. with home court advantage this time around).  Time for the kill...
We deserve better.

Agree...good non-call. I think Barry was the one who said, after the game, that it was the right call. In a regular season game it might have been called but not in the playoffs.

Spurs are really trying to have someone else beat them instead of Kobe. Bowen does a good job (decent to be exact) of covering Kobe but the other Spurs also help out to make sure that the ball comes out of Kobe's hands.

Manu was due to have a game like the one in game 3. The more interesting question is if he can be consistent in the playoffs with that kind of play. He can do it, we've seen it in the regular season, but it has been absent in this Lakers series. All might be too late.

Overall I think it's the bench factor that gives the Lakers an upper hand. When Vujacic, Walton, Turiaf and Farmar enters the game they are able to maintain the level of the starter's game (more often it's probably a notch lower than the starters). The Spurs on the other hand have no bench to match the Lakers:
Horry -- too old (I think he's 0-9 in the series)
Vaughn -- not a threat (we've seen this in other series)
Finley/Manu -- inconsistent
Udoka -- the only bench player to provide some consistent scoring (but not that much)
Barry -- aside from Game 4, nothing much really.

Actually listened to the Dan Patrick show, and this was being discussed.  If the Spurs win, they are experienced and battle-tested.  If they lose, they are old.  Dan was confused.

My take:   The Spurs basic core aint old.  Manu, Parker and Duncan are in their prime.   Their bench is, but they dont play too significant minutes anyway.

Mychal Thompson, the ex-Laker, said it best.   If the Lakers were to win the series, it simply means one thing, the Lakers are the better team.

Man, Im an NBA fan who was enticed because of the Lakers-Celtics battles in the 80s.

Expect to see some appearances from retired players from both teams.......they'll be around pre-game shows I bet.  ;)

If both teams take care of their business.

good return to form and a big jumper at the end for jesus shuttlesworth. i've been among those who have been on his case, so good for him to show up. wonder if he can do that each game though. i've been a non-fan since his non-appearance in a big game back in college, where iverson and georgetown kicked his uconn team's butt.

but just like yesterday with the lakes, the celts showed shaky poise in the last minute. anyway, one more win for each before the big reunion.

bro a2 - nice shirt, but i'll hold out for the final design  ;)

Both Lakers and Celtics are one win away from the Dream NBA Finals. This will certainly be one of the most exciting NBA Finals in history.

a comment about commentators while we're waiting for the game, and before collins becomes the bulls coach.

for me, the team at the bottom is the abc team. just a lot of hype and hot air, and they're too personality-oriented, commenting on players constantly like they were either heroes or villains. mark jackson is especially bad. jeff van gundy can provide some insights, but too often he gets caught up bitching about referees' calls. wish he would comment more about defense, about which he's supposed to be a genius of sorts.

collins is sober, insightful, informative. he has calmed down from previous seasons where he got too hype-ful.

best of all for me is doris burke. at first, the chauvinist pig in me said, "what, a female commentator?" but she is filled with insight and information. hardly a wasted word.

of course, malapit na finals. quinito and chino are coming soon!

Game 5 in LA the Lakers must finish the series tonight to avoid goin back to San Antonio and have the Spurs play like defending champions again. Its gona be the Spur's last stand so i expect them to give it all tonight to extend the series and be back at San Antonio and try to force a Game 7 by w/c they will have the edge in terms of experience even if the Lakers will have homecourt advantage.

Not a good sign for the Lakers...Kobe shooting too much in the 1st.
I like it better when he's aggressive but looking for teammates.
It builds the confidence of the other Lakers.

Oh and Finley is making it hard for the Lakers right now.

The NBA plans to impose fines for flopping next season. It's a step in the right direction but what good is a fine to these people who make 50 to 100 thousand dollars or more per game. There should be in game penalties like football where you can get carded. Or make it a technical. Free throws; 2 and you're ejected; 15 per season and you're suspended.

They are tentative......its pressure, coz everyone expects them to close it out.  And now, they are in an early hole.

I think Fisher should know he is better at making jumpshots than driving the lane.... ;)

11-2 run to end the half.   6 point deficit.  Ok pa.  ;)

Buhay pa kahit konti Spurs. I hope the series go back to San Antonio but it looks like a reminiscent of Game 1.

Vujacic shouldnt have shot that last second shot....ethics yan sa NBA.  He should have dribbled it away.  Oh well, super excited yung bata.
