Pinoys are generally more pikon than most.

If you watch late night US shows from the likes of Letterman, Leno, Fallon, O'Brien, and Ferguson, they frequently have guests who'd do stand-up comedy, and most of them insult high-ranking politicians and even their own President repeatedly--even the hosts themselves do this frequently. And this is just free TV--those comedy shows on cable TV are even more brutal.

Sabi nga ni Mo Twister, who currently works in the states, that international comedians are afraid of making fun of us due to our reputation of having onion skins.

In a way you're actually right, Praktikal. I noticed that the first people to react about that joke and called it offensive were GMA employees. I have a ton of friends in GMA and when this issue exploded all of them were on the warpath on Facebook and all of the posts, strangely enough, ended with this "please re-share/retweet hanggang makarating sa kanya." It was one sentence, repeated over and over again in various posts, no deviations in the way it was constructed or written. I leave it up to you guys to think about what it could mean.

In my opinion this is just another manifestation of the network wars.

nakakita ng opportunity ang GMA to play dehado and they pounced on it. if the rape joke was directed to a non-GMA employee I doubt we would be hearing about this.

then we probably wouldn't hear anything about it. malamang hindi siya maging issue and it would just be discussed within kapamilya.

nagtataka lang din ako May 17 yung concert pero yung issue lumabas lang nitong last few days.

I agree with you about Greg Giraldo.

The Comedy Central roasts are pretty shocking in their humor but of course that's the venue for it. A couple of comedians have caused controversy over jokes there. Jeff Ross made a joke about the Aurora shooter and Amy Schumer made a joke involving Steve O. which some people found offensive.

God, those roasts were BRUTAL. I watched a roast for Robin Quivers (Howard Stern's co-host in his radio show) and they made jokes about the fact that she was sexually abused by her father. It really crossed the line at certain points, but no one complained about being offended, least of all Quivers herself.

It really boils down to cultural differences, in my opinion.

In those roasts, I do think they ask permission from participants on what they can and cannot make a joke about. For instance, in the William Shatner roast, he asked that they not joke about his dead wife who accidentally drowned. In the Joan Rivers roast, she asked that they not joke about her daughter and her grandson. Otherwise, it's fair game. I'm pretty sure they asked for Robin Quivers' permission to joke about her sexual abuse.

In one roast (for Cheech and Chong, if I recall correctly), Greg Giraldo said that Lisa was like the infamous Octo-mom, Nadya Suleman, in that she too at one time has had 80 fingers inside of her. Nyahaha
