Do LX77 owner see the teletext option on their set-up menu?  Based on the manual it should be between the "Viera Link" and "Off timer", but it's not there.   ???

sir what icetea what do u mean by this Did you did this via VGA?  I was only able to reach 1024 x 768 resolution.  How about you?  Do you think it possible to reach the LCD's native(1,366 x 768) resolution via VGA or only DVI-HDMI will be able to provide that?.  d po ako pwede mag 1900 or 1600 man lng sa panasonic na lx77, 1024x768 lng po??

Hindi naman Full-HD 1080p(1920x1080) ang LX77, 720p(1366x 768) lang.  Alam ko hindi niya kaya above the native resolution, i-downscale ito ng video circuit.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.  :)  I don't have a high-end computer video card that's why I can't say for sure.  Tinest ko lang yung VGA port the LX77 ko.

I'm really not sure. Maybe via HDMI port you can reach that resolution via your pc's dvi video card. Or try asking Nemesis or E-reply, they might know, but bare in mind that your buying a LCD TV not a Computer Monitor.   ;)

Hi Jeff,

Really?  I thought teletext is a cable broadcast info?  You mean it only appears if there's an active vierra link, so, this not seeing it is normal for me?  :)

Anybody who got from S&S and already had it picture calibrated, could you please post the resulting settings.  I'd like to try it out.  I know it's a case-to-case basis, because it depend on lighting conditions, etc, but it's still good as a reference.   TIA ;)

Bought a 32lx77 from theaterworks on tuesday Jan 29 and would like to thank sir Jeff for the great price. Thanks also for the free pana HDMI cable. Even without the cable I would have purchased the tv. (not unlike that dude who over-reacted about the non-availability of the cable). hehe.
Still trying out the various settings to achieve the most natural colors but so far I am glad that I chose a panasonic as the black levels are truly outstanding for an lcd.

Guys, baka alam nyo ang solution sa medyo cropped na image coming from my pc via hdmi (720p). It seems that the black bars at the bottom and top of the video are not displayed by the lcd resulting in a distorted image. i tried using different resolutions to output to the lcd via hdmi and no matter what resolution, it always results in a distorted viode or image. (e.g. yung mga tao medyo elongated sila). thanks. any help would be appreciated.

@tailhook

try mo vga connection instead of hdmi, kasi in my bravia i use vga cable and do not encounter such problems outputting images from my laptop to my lcd tv. or it maybe other factors like your video card's software driver being needed to be updated or other adjustments in your video card's menu like setting the video mode to wide mode instead of compressed mode.

My LE7 just broke (purchased 1/02/2008). I was just 30 minutes into watching an episode of Friday Night Lights then suddenly everything was just displayed in a dark red hue. Initially thought it was the DVD or perhaps the cable but no matter the source (CATV, Wii via component) its the same. :'(

Damn on Superbowl Sunday pa naman!

xxadonisxx,

thanks for your help. I was able to remedy the problem by reinstalling the graphic card drivers. then, when setting the output for my lcd via hdmi, i chose NOT to output it to lcd's native resolution but rather used 1920 × 1080i resolution. This meant that videos retained the proper aspect ratio (16:9) with some materials with black bars on top and bottom while other videos have none but are already 16:9. All i have to do is to drag the video window appearing on my pc monitor to the lcd then tell the application to output to full screen.

Before I purchased my lx77, I was wondering how much I would be missing out on 'true HD' in the near future because it was only 1080i capable not 1080p capable. Apart from budget constraints, I found this enlightening piece about 1080i and 1080p and it made me felt better purchasing the lx77.
it reads:
1080i v. 1080p
By Geoffrey Morrison   •   November, 2006
Less than meets the eye.

The most frequently asked questions I've received this year have been about the difference between 1080i and 1080p. Many people felt—or others erroneously told them—that their brand-new 1080p TVs were actually 1080i, as that was the highest resolution they could accept on any input. I did a blog post on this topic and received excellent questions, which I followed up on. It is an important enough question—and one that creates a significant amount of confusion—that I felt I should address it here, as well.

There Is No Difference Between 1080p and 1080i
My bold-printed, big-lettered breaker above is a little sensationalistic, but, as far as movies are concerned, this is basically true. Here's why. Movies (and most TV shows) are shot at 24 frames per second (either on film or on 24-frame-per-second HD cameras). Every TV sold in the United States has a refresh rate of 60 hertz. This means that the screen refreshes 60 times per second. In order to display 24-frame-per-second content on a display that essentially shows 60 frames per second, you need to make up or create new frames. This is accomplished by a method called 3:2 pulldown (or, more accurately, 2:3 pulldown). It doubles the first frame of film, triples the second frame, doubles the third frame, and so on, creating a 2-3-2-3-2-3 sequence. (Check out Figure 1 for a more colorful depiction.) So, the new frames don't have new information; they are just duplicates of the original film frames. This process converts 24-frame-per-second film to be displayed on a 60-Hz display.

It's Deinterlacing, Not Scaling
HD DVD and Blu-ray content is 1080p/24. If your player outputs a 60-Hz signal (that is, one that your TV can display), the player is adding (creating) the 3:2 sequence. So, whether you output 1080i or 1080p, it is still inherently the same information. The only difference is in whether the player interlaces it and your TV deinterlaces it, or if the player just sends out the 1080p signal directly. If the TV correctly deinterlaces 1080i, then there should be no visible difference between deinterlaced 1080i and direct 1080p (even with that extra step). There is no new information—nor is there more resolution, as some people think. This is because, as you can see in Figure 1, there is no new information with the progressive signal. It's all based on the same original 24 frames per second.

In the case of Samsung's BD-P1000 Blu-ray player, the player interlaces the image and then deinterlaces it to create 1080p. So, you get that step regardless.

Two caveats: Other Blu-ray players can output 1080p/24. If your TV can accept 1080p/24, then it is adding the 3:2 sequence, unless it is one of the very few TVs that can change its refresh rate. Pioneer plasmas can change their refresh rate to 72 Hz, and they do a simple 3:3 pulldown (showing each film frame three times). This looks slightly less jerky.

If you're a gamer, then there is a difference, as 1080p/60 from a computer can be 60 different frames per second (instead of 24 different frames per second doubled and tripled, as with movie content). It is unlikely that native 1080p/60 content will ever be broadcast or distributed in wide numbers. The reasons for this are too numerous to get into here, but I list them in my follow-up blog.

So Don't Worry (Or Only Worry a Little)
Without question, it would be better if all TVs accepted a 1080p input. (Read that again before you start sending your e-mails.) What I hope this article points out is that, if you have a 1080p TV that only accepts 1080i, you're not missing any resolution from the Blu-ray or HD DVD source. If a TV doesn't correctly deinterlace 1080i, on the other hand. . .well, that's a different article (which is conveniently located on page 64).

Thus, for people who might be wondering whether they will be left by the 'HD' bandwagon by buying a non-1080p lcd, this answers their question. It did mine.

Can someone please post the difference between 32LE7 and 32LX70?

I'm in the market for an LCD TV but my budget is really tight so any amount of money I can save, I'll take it lalo na if the features I'll be sacrificing isn't too much.

TIA.

GUys, need help..I have just purchase a 32LX77 yesterday and when I try to connect it via my Pioneer DVD Player (DV 270-S) through component cable (supports 420p), with progressive scanning, I'm hearing no audio (but has video).

When I try to set the progressive scan to interlace and use the AV connection, it was ok..

What seems to be the problem with this guys? Sa DVD player ko na kya to since my TV is very capable nmn of 420p

Progressive Scan (480p) afaik requires component cable (YPbPr, red/green/blue). RCA/composite & S-Video cables can only produce 480i.

As for the difference of the LX70M and LE7M, I asked both Sir Jeff and Sir Vic and they both replied no discernible performance difference. Though Panasonic europe sites list their LE7 with 1 HDMI and 3000:1 contrast with IPS panel, while their LX70 is 8500:1, IPA-alpha and 2 HDMI. Though the LE7M locally available has 2 HDMI inputs and no SCART inputs and isn't 1080p ready.

I auditioned both at D'Listen in Festival Mall and I could also tell no difference except of course the 2 toned look of the LX70M.

Hehehehe.  There's your problem.   Component is a 5-RCA connection (3 for video, 2 for audio).  Based on your post, I'm assuming you used your 3-RCA for video only, thus no-audio because no connection is present.  :)

32LX700 has some added features like 1 tuner PIP (picture in picture) and PAP (picture and picture), hard LCD IPS alpha panel that displays vibrant images when viewed even from an angle, and also 1080p Digital Re-mastering Processor that allows this TV to accept 1080p source.

No problemo.  We're all here to learn.  ;)

Technically, there's no 5-RCA component cable.  When we say component, it's just the video, but really, what's a TV without audio?  ;D  Component cable is just 3-RCA.  You then pair it with audio cable, which is 2-RCA.

BTW, you can use 2 sets of your composite cable....you just have an extra unused RCA.  I'm assuming you have an extra composite cable around.  Nearly everybody does.  :)

Wrong-mistake.  ;D  That's the audio in for PC-audio. Check your manual, look for the DVD Player connection example. It shows the connection for component setup. Plug your audio cable to the left of your component cable, under the AV2-in group of sockets.
