who has a PS3 at which whose lens konked out due to watching Blu-ray movies?

Hi. I just bought a PS3, mainly for its BD capability, and yes for some games as well. Unfortunately, naka lock pala yung DVD player nya to R3. How do I unlock it so I could play all my other R1 DVDs??? Do we know or medyo mahirap to do so with a PS3? Pls help! Thanks!

odyopayl's quoted price is from the US. If you have relatives, it'd be much cheaper to import the player than buying it locally which is usually 3 times more than the retail price in US.

Saw one sa Listening Room sa Mega. Mahal nga. Selling at 29K $:-\$ $:-\$ $:-\$ But loading time is really slow, though not as slow as Toshiba HD A35.

Games Extreme (where I bought my PS3) are now advising customers who bought the PS3 from them not to use it much to watch Bluray movies kasi madali daw masisira ang lens.

really?! for me its hard to objectively say that the real cause of the broken lens is through watching bluray, if they really want to dissect it dapat tanungin nila mga na siraan how they used their ps3 (gaming vis-a-vis watching dvds and bluray).

sa pinoypsx (playstation forum), some members there actually think that the firmware has a contributory factor in the problem, may isang member kasi dun, ok ang ps3 nya, nung nag update to 2.17fw, nag ha-hang na ang ps3 nya pag nag play ng bluray (either games or movie) but other functions work (accessing the hd or watching dvds) kaya puzzled sya. then he decided to update to 2.20fw, oila! ok na sya ulit. wierd but true story from a real life user of ps3.

Whew! I hope you're right on this sir. I am now starting to watch my Prison Break Season 1 BD using PS3. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. $:-\$ One thing that is good with having a PS3 is that we know where to bring it just in case it gets busted unlike those standalone BD players were after sales parts and service are still questionable here in PI.

2 years old na yung PS3 ko pero no problems so far. I guess yung newer models tinitipid sa gawa ng Sony compared the 20GB and 60GB.

Check out the PS3 thread. Someone explains actually playing movies will bring more wear & tear than playing game alone.

^yup bro movies deal a heavy part on the lens as it constantly reads the disc. as for gaming it only reads parts at a time

Maybe, but my 18 month old PS3 is a dedicated movie player. I have more than 100 br disc watched as well as contant DEMO for friends once or twice a week. Its one hell of a sturdy machine. Best HD value ever!

According to sir nemesis, so far the 40gb version has no lens problems. The 80gb version is the one that is defective.

I recently bought a PS3 40gb mainly for watching blu-ray movies. I also plan to use this for DVD movies, but I'm planning to buy titles from Amazon. It states there that their DVD movies are Region 1. My question is, is the PS3 40gb region free? Thanks in advance.

buti na lang... 40Gb is what i own. used mainly for games. i dont think it heats up a lot. PS3 is very durable and it has good ventilation in itself at the sides. sometimes i put my hand on it when my kids are playing and surprisingly its not that hot.
