Nice gears.
Did the smaller Castle speakers displayed any qualities that was better than the Dyns ?
Compared to the 1.8MKII's...In all aspects a resounding NONE OF THE ABOVE hehehe. In hindsight outgunned naman talaga sya in all categories such as price point, cabinet size and driver size so the result is not surprising and it isnt a fair fight to begin with BUT compared to a bookshelf speaker that is in the 20K to 30K category like say an A42 with same size and same application then the Castle Trent II will be in the mix of things. Subjectivity na lang will come into play. For its size and price it is an over achiever.
there is only one aspect that the Castle manages to be at par if not better than the 1.8MKII....cabinet finish. It is a beautiful speaker. All my guests who have seen it marvel at the craftsmanship of this little bugger. When somebody likes to listen to my stereo I usually start with the Castle and then use the 1.8MKII's on the same tracks that we just listened to. Probably 95% chose the Dyne.
Aspects that I like about the Castle would be:
1. Fit and finish. Pulido sya in all angles. The binding posts literally is a work of art. Il take a pic later and upload it.
2. Mids - very fluid though slightly forward when compared to the Dynes. The highs are a tad stronger than the Dynes with more air. Recordings with ambiance and reverb sound superb.
3. Output. Though a comparatively small speaker that is engineered to sound loud for its size (a42 or 52) will out punch the castle, it will certainly hold its own specially if assisted by a good musical sub then it's limitations on output is masked to a certain level. It hits the wall hard though on levels that it wasnt designed for. The mids suddenly get brighter and shouty plus it also loses its coherence on instruments as well if driven beyond its capability. For sure this wasn't designed for HT use based on its strong points. It's not even magnetically shielded to begin with.
if we take out the 1.8MKIIs out of the equation and my budget is around 20 to 30ish for bookshelf speakers i'll probably be very happy to live with the Castle as my main speakers.
