Can DVD players play .vob files converted from .mkv?

What DVD players can play .vob files converted from 720p .mkv files? Is this actually possible?

i tried converting a .mkv file using convertx2dvd once. i set it to create a dvd image (.iso). burned the image to a blank disc and my player (dv600) was able to read/play the disc.  i haven't tried yet though saving the .vob files to a HDD or flash disk and play it using the player's usb connection...

If I recall right, VOB container file can only take in 720x480 resolution(16:9). So regardless of your source, whether 720 or 1080, the conversion tool will downscale it to 480 for VOB files to be playable in DVD players.
