too bad this film was, well, bad enough to merit spending extra bucks on that steelbook. still, if viva releases it locally, that's a different matter...

I've noticed this trend lately. The worse a movie is, the better the packaging.

Just look at 10,000 B.C. Now this.

precisely.  that's the reason why i'm asking whether or not a local steelbook release is in the offing. :)

well i think it's some sort of marketing ploy.  since the movie is a complete dud at the box office, they have to somehow make up for the losses - thus, the better dvd packaging.  10,000 BC is getting a de steelbook, a uk steelbook, a best buy excl steelbook, a futureshop excl steelbook and an FYE excl steelbook. siguro kailangan nila bumawi sa dvd kasi hindi kumita sa takilya. :D

i dont think the two aforementioned films can be considered as duds in the box office, with 10,000 BC grossing somewhere around 94m while jumper taking in around 79m in north america.  not blockbuster figures but certainly not box office bomb status either.  and you still have to factor in the worldwide grosses.  the failure was more of a critical consensus of the films.

There's probably buzz already about the people who were duped into watching these films. They watched the movie, hated it, don't plan on buying the DVD.

Then the marketing people come in: "Wait! Let's wrap the disc in STEEL!"

Now they're after the collector market who don't care about the movie, just the packaging it's in. Brilliant!

Jumper sucked???? I thought it was kinda okay, in fact the screenplay was more original than most films... not fantastic but certainly not that bad.. i can name a good number of other Hayden Christensen films that sucked much worse than this... like AWAKE hehehe

For a sci-fi fanatic like me, i'd buy the dvd.

Yeah. Have you read the book? I haven't, but, to each their own, I guess.  :)

Jumper is now available locally, Php 550. Not a steelbook, but with a lenticular cover on some copies. Good while supplies last - some available copies don't have the lenticular cover.

Thanks for the info Sir Hankey. ;)

Is the lenticular cover attached to the case or just like the Night at the Museum? TIA

Mousepad nga but I opt to stick it to the cover. I'd rather stick it than use it as a mousepad, or worse throw it.
