Hi guys, worth it pa din po ba buying Xtreamer Pro considering medyo old model na sya?
gusto ko kasi yung my internal bays feature nya.
what can you recommend for 1080/720p non 3d to be play. 7k budget?
Thanks.

most people who's been in NMT too long normally put their disks externally, (via dock or enclosures), which seem to prolong the life of the unit even if they have internal drive bays.

7K? aba try mo sir himedia Q5, pleasantly surprised with it, matulin and really nice UI. :)

Any NMT/Media player user here that upgraded the power supply of their player with after market linear power supply?

Why do you have to do that, unless the supplied adapter conks out?  It's auto-volt detect sa AC side and only like 12VDC, 3A output (and most of that will actually be used by an internally connected HDD, if any) - very very small power requirements to merit an upgrade to a regulated one IMO.

Just get a good NMT brand;  PCH on top of the list.

Bro, ang standard power supply kasi ng mga media player/NMT ay cheap na SMPS (switch mode power supply). Hindi ito ideal for high end audio/video application gaya ng Linear Power Supply.

Some of the very good linear power supply design ay from Tedddy Pardo at iyong design by Salas. You could also search the net on other aftermarket brands.

http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-linear-power-supply-and-switched-mode-power-supply/
http://sinrace.com.cn/en/knowledge-base/306-smps-and-linear-power-supply-comparison.html

"The main disadvantage of a switched mode power supply compared to a linear power supply is noise. The voltage oscillations and the constant connecting and disconnecting from the source create too much electrical noise that can interfere with other nearby electronics. To combat this noise, adequate shielding is often needed. Linear power supplies also create some amount of noise but nowhere near as much as that produced by switched mode power supplies."

^^^If you are using all digital output, that is, if the audio output of the NMT goes through the HDMI or optical out then the signals are all digital and won't be affected by the noise from the SMPS.

Besides, even if you used a linear power adapter, the 12V output from the adapter will be converted internally in the NMT itself to actual voltages (typically 3.3V and 1.2V) used by the NMT chips by built-in SMPS type power circuits.

Hi bro, maybe i re-phrase my question.

Does anybody had used a linear power supply to replace the SMPS that comes with their NMT / Media player and had seen improvement in the audio and video performance of their player?

Now that's a better question.

Although, I'm willing to bet there would be nothing noticeable on the players Im using -  PCH-A200 and PCH-A210 - even if I use a linear power supply -  and I feel I've pretty much pushed the capabilities of its Sigma Chip and its SOC with the types of contents that I play on it.

bro, I used it on the HiMedia Q5 using my 4TB external HD and it works without problems.

I will also test it over the weekend using the other NMT's: Sony, Xtreamer, etc.

Guys, how is Egreat these days?  I bought one a few years ago and it ran fine until it wouldn't play the newer files (mostly 1080p files).  It literally became obsolete.  They released 2 updates during the early years and then abandoned it.  It's very disappointing.  Now almost all the newer titles 1080p files, and more 720p files, won't play on it.

I'm considering getting the newer Popcorn Hour but it's too expensive.  It's expensive but they do have constant updates.  What's the next best thing?

Bro, I am using a Hitachi external 4TB hard drive that I got last Thanksgiving Day. I've also tested the 3TB and 2TB external WD units and they worked well without problems.

Go for the new AC Ryan PLAY ON 3, as good as popcorn hour, but has a more reasonable price.

Tried the PH A400 with the stock SMPS and with a linear power supply and it was very obvious, the linear power supply is way better.

Define better please?

I used the A400 for 2 full days in December and the issues were all associated with an obviously half-cooked FW and lack of Full BD functions that its predecessors had.  I used the R300 for 2 full weeks in December and the issues were all associated to it having a Realtek chip instead of Sigma.  Ive been using my A200 for nearly 3 years - never unplugged even once - never - watching full Blurays in full BD quality and HD audio practically everyday.  They are all freaking awesome in terms of PQ and AQ and reliability on my set-up.  Problems are usually caused by the files themselves - not the player running on its stock power supply.

Haven't tried AC Ryan but I have Elvira.

Straight forward 1080P full HD media player with good navigation and plays all (I think) sorts of format I tried including AVI, DIVX, MKV, MP4, etc. Audio: DD, DD+, Dolby True HD, DTS HD, DPL2, etc.

So far I'm very happy with it. At a little over than Php2K, definitely a bang for the buck! :)
