Mabuhay!

makikisingit lang po....
Just got myself last Christmas a DV610. For a mere mortal like me, its a good buy. I am happy watching my CD collections kasi somehow i noticed some improvements especially yung mga movie CDs that i bought 4 years ago.  :D though my TV set is still "low-tech" hehehe.  Watching DVDs (slowly approaching to be a DVD addict too) are even better with my new gear. For all the brands i tried and tested before deciding to buy it (except those priced at 11k and up into clouds), i would recommend (accdg to my ears) this gear or the Philips.

JMTCW!!

Been watching downloaded compressed movies via the USB port of this player lately, not the ones taken in a moviehouse. Movies can be upscaled, in my case up to 720p, to my Pana 50PV80. Surprisingly the picture is better than good, colors are vivid and the contrast is deep.

Which one is better? Philips DVD5986k or Pio DV-610V or Sony NS708H?

I'm trying to look for a decent upscaler na swak sa budget (less than 7k). Any suggestion? Thanks.

Whats the native resolution of the downloaded movies which are upscaled to 720? 400? 480?

I have no idea for their resolution. Its the divx type of movie not the .mkv hd type.

get the toshiba xde 500, its getting rave reviews. it can go toe to toe with an oppo, @toy 01 and @anya is selling this in the market place for less than 5k brand new, landed from the the usa.

its an upscaler and can be region freed to play all kind of discs including jack sparrows. no usb port though.

I have no idea for their resolution. Its the divx type of movie not the .mkv hd type.

If you play the DivX movies in the PC. you can check the properties to see the native resolution. Sometimes, I could download HD Divx movies at 1024x720.

...one thing i noticed with my 610, it's a bit sensitive especially to newly released p****ted blu rays kuno..usually towards the end nag fre-freeze ang image, but for new released lang like AUSTRALIA,TWILIGHT and QUANTUM OF SOLACE but when I played those disc via Nextbase ( forgot the model,di pa hdmi, via component pa..tuloy tuloy... for old titles..generally superb...must be in first generation of disc production, minadali para mauna sa market.. :D :D...share ko lang experience ko..buti pa siguro, hwag na muna manood ng bagong release.. ;D

philander is right, for you to play mkv files you need an htpc or nmt. :)

how about digital surround, dts decoding and subtitles via usb kaya rin po ba. Plano ko po kasi bumili nito and external HDD instead of NMT. Kung sa ganitong setup po kc may option parin ako na makapanood ng movie via dvd through HDMI.
