Yep, yung nga lang baka mapagastos lalo hehe ;D

Focus lang ang kailangan dyan! ;D At the end, even if you want more, it's your budget that will dictate the pace! :P

@ Clondalkin ;D

This is the thing...I bought an LCD last Nov. 2007. Ever since I bought it, I have never experienced watching a film in high def or what an upscaled movie looks like at the very least. :( I have not experienced the full capabilities of my LCD. And now that I plan to invest on a machine, I just want to make sure that I am headed in the right direction, so to speak. :)

To answer your question, both are important to me. :-\ You see...I have my current and exsisting dvd collection, made up of my favorite films, which I cannot give-up just like that as it took me years to collate all of them. ;D But then, I also want to experience what it is to view films in high def format. :P

Given the scenario, I am leaning towards the Oppo 980 for my dvd collection viewing and the PCH for my high def films! ;)

Good morning brothers stick and froot ;D, Since you still have a working dvd player pa naman then its better and more practical to invest first in an mkv player(nmt). The reason why I got my oppo lang is bec I really need a dvd player(hindi dahil gusto ko ng uoscaler). Kung Hindi nasira yung old trusted pioneer dvdp ko malamang nmt ang kinuha ko :) Kaya nga it all depends on your needs. As for the Bd players medyo mahal pa yung titles and may next best alternative pa naman which is the nmt. ;) Ngayon ang 15t peso question is anong nmt player ang kukunin nyo? ;D

sir froot,

you may want to look at this issue, but if you are using those big external hdd, then i think you won't have any problems. baka kasi mas ok mag a-100 nalang.

Wala pala kasing Optical Cable ang 100, at baka magka-problema sa external ko kasi edi lang siya? yung 110 may sata na.

sabagay, basta powered and hdd mo, oks na, than if you are going to use the internal hdd then no issues at all.  :)

Froot, halos pareho lang tayo ng results sa shoot-out... :P

Popcorn     BD30     Pio      Oppo       Correct audio
 3.25         3.58     2.67     2.58        5 right except 1

So, technically, BD is the way to go for me based on the shoot out. But since the PQ of the PCH is very close to that of the BD, in terms of price, i'll lean towards the PCH/Egreat. ;D

Agree, The best talaga if budget is not an issue is to have PS3 (BD/Upscaler/Games) + NMT. I will also get an NMT soon. Get the Egreat na then let me know.  ;)

Looks like I will get one for now. ;D As much as I'd like having a BD player and not to mention, buying BD movies, are expensive...it's not really within my budget. :( So, dito na muna ako sa Egreat. :) Then come December, I will get the Oppo na to upscale my dvd films. ;)

I will surely let you know how the Egreat is once I get it na! ;)

nmt + oppo = WINNER!!!  ;D

ok yan sir stick!

+1!  I've tried most of the items in the shoot out; have a diff BD player though - Sharp Aquos (which was rated high in Amazon and great price to boot).

Pio AV600 I bought one, tried it and re-sold after a couple of days.  The upscaling (matched with my earlier Pixel Plus Philips panel) just had so many artifacts and 'purple fringing' on the edges.

I thus switched to Oppo and was initially blown away given the marked difference vs. the pixelized pio.  It's a good thing Mark qualified the edging out of the Oppo by the Pio given that it was routed through a vid processor.  Otherwise, I concur with Mark that the Oppo should be able to beat the Pio (Esi and I have been Oppo fans since we purchased our units - gulat nga kami initially sa results nung shootout  :D).  I even rated Oppo last place would you believe!  ;D

NMT - the 'find' of the century (okay I'm exaggerating), but the consensus was just mind-boggling - it must've done something right.  Like you mentioned bro stick, the staggering price diff makes the NMT (be it PCH or EG) superb alterntives to HD viewing! Highly recommended - grab one now (if there's still stock  ;))

The PS3, a must have if you really want to go BD discs.  Even if you do decide to build your HD collection via mkv's, then the PS3 can still function as your gaming console - very flexible.  It upscales but per the reviews in other forums, I don't think it's that 'solid' compared to other DVD upscalers.  Still I love this unit, sold my initial PS3 to fund some other item, but re-purchased one again for my other HT.  Superb machine!

Good luck bro!

PS: Just to share my results - the NMT edged out the BD player - enuf for me to grab an EG.  ;D

scores mo:

Popcorn - 3.25
BD30 - 2.25
Pio - 1.83
Oppo - 1.67

Audio: all correct except sample 5

@Marl_1 ;D

Sir, thanks for your inputs. ;D I already made a firm decision on going with the Egreat, since I went to audition it this morning at Ehome. Like you said, it is the 'find' of the century. ;D My jaw dropped with the clarity, considering that the resolution was only set at 720p. :) Like I have mentioned in several posts that I made today, this machine can compete head to head with a BD player. ;D

As for the Oppo...this will be next in line. ;D I have heard many positive feedbacks about this machine, that is why I am strongly considering it. ;)

Totoo pala yung mga sinasabi ng mga naka-experience na ng shoot out dati, na when you get the opportunity to be part of a shoot out, panigurado yan...upgrade ang bagsak mo! :P

hehehe, yun lang nga, with storage devices, parang inadvance mo ang purchases ng mga movies. kahit wala pang laman, ang kagandahan ngayon, once you buy puno na naman yung hdd.  ;D

1 tera is a good choice, ako nga 500gb lang , kulang talaga. have to get one nanaman, kaso may ibang plano. kaya tiis muna sa hdd.

Wow biglang ang dami nang nag switch to NMT ah.  Come to think of it even if you have 1TB movies or even movies in 3TB server, I doubt you'll ever be able to watch all of them.  It will take months to finish.  Just watch and delete.
