Blu-ray Sales to Double this Year

According to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, sales of Blu-ray Disc movies are on pace to double this year, reaching a revenue of $1 Billion. While DVD sales are suffering from the recent economic struggles, Blu-ray sales are outpacing most other consumer electronics products. Equally impressive is that the percentage of Blu-ray sales compared to DVD sales is also increasing.

David Bishop, President of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, commented, "Considering the bad economic news that is all around us, Blu-ray sales continue to grow at a phenomenal rate. You cannot find any consumer electronics product or new delivery system that is performing at that percentage growth rate."

Paramount has benefited the most recently, selling over 200,000 units of the recent release of 'Transformers', and over 500,000 copies of 'Iron Man' in its first week.

I can stream HD movies, jpegs, flv, xvid divx, youtube videos from my pc to ps3 and my pana plasma...

can you browse your pc, pick the downloaded movies FREE from T*****ts, watch it hi def? without buying a blue ray disc?

the ps3 can do that...

Hi,

here's the new version!... some explanations about the new "video copy" feature: in previous versions, you couldn't copy any transcoded videos on your ps3, due to a virtual size of 94gb... now it's possible, with this option enabled. Be careful: if you want to use that feature, it's recommended to set a reasonable bandwidth limit in transcode options, because transcoded videos will have no fixed size, and you could fill up your ps3's hard drive pretty quickly with default settings !

if you are a gamer, then getting a ps3 is a no brainer,specially now that the slim can bitstream hd audio codecs also, and its still one of the best bluray players out there.

as for the nmt vs. htpc, am not a techie, so i have gone with nmt.

i think a ps3 + nmt has all your hd bases covered (until 3d comes along).

Sa PS3 muna ako kasi BD movies and PS3 games can be played at HDMI na rin naman so oks na ako muna.

In the future, bibili lang ako ng BD player pag ang price nya bumaba na ng mga 5k. para kasing DVD player yan a couple of years back, 20k nung bagong labas. ngayon nga may Philips na BD na 12k na lang, konti pang pasensya.

ako nakabili ng lg bd370 for 10k syang di na ako umabot sa 8k ng abenson me net na rin kyang mag play ng mkv files sa usb kyang mag decode ng tru hd saan ka pa? tsaka yun mga fw update ng sony palpak lalo na yun fw 3.0 nakakasira ng lens goodbye sa 6k mo hahahahah!

ano po ba dapat? is ps3 can upscale up to 1080p automatically or pede rin sya i adjust into 720p lang and pareho lang po ba ang ps3 and yung mga stand alone bluray player interms of functionality and anong lamang ng stand alone bluray player sa ps3? thanks po

bluray players are getting cheaper now. if you are not a gamer then probably tama na stand alone player ka na lang. i have this player and got it from this seller too http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=103193.0. suggest ko din that you get did a separate DVD player for your DVDs  stand alone player 8.5k + dvd player with upconversion 2.5k, Total 11k still cheaper than getting a PS3

donnamay, I agree with vtec3 . Alternately, if you're into gaming then the other popular option but slightly more expensive will be a SONY PS3. Other than gaming, you can also store music & photo files, etc...
