Joey- here's to change your mind ;) ;D
Are you willing to part Php2000.00 (Php5600.00 at Watson's)more for the portable model rather than the Nextbase  DV9000, which is Php3700.00, and highly versatile that it almost has a zero reject rate among discs, either original(of whatever region or RCE) or pirated.

If you use DVD+-R/RW, portable dvm4 is much better than dvd 9000 with regards to compatibility.

im already decided to buy this DV9000 next base, tenk yu sa lahat for learning a lot about this great gadget.

Only thing eh sa March ko pa mabibili pag uwi ko ng pinas.  Ive been telling my colleagues about DV9000 and even without auditioning personally by themselves they want me to buy one for them and bring it here sa mid east after my vacation.

So far dalawa na ang nagpapabili sakin... I guess puwede ko sigurong tubuan na sila ;D ;D  good business ey.....

Thanks Alfie for the suggestion,

Actually here are my criteria in buying although im happy with my Philips DVD player :)

1) Macrovision disabled, so i can convert anything to vcd or copy directly to VHS. My Philips DVD cannot do this, i have to re-route my connection to my TV and get the input coming from my TV pa.

2) PAL/NTSC so i can view my NTSC/PAL Secam or any region DVD's

3) Can Play MPG, Photo CD/JPEG or even AVI's (if available yung feature na ito)

4) yung cost and durability, the lower the cost and the more durable the player the better.

5) lastly and very impt. can played any PDVD and di namimili

So i am thinking buying Nextbase DV 9000 or the portable one the Nextbase MDV1, which is the best?

any inputs?

Regards,

Joey :)

Joey- I think both are Macrovision enabled, so both are probably out, however, DVD9000(laptop size) is satisfactory to your criteria 2-5.

The portable MDV1 has reports that it's choosy among PDVDs(check-out the MDV1 thread) and of course we all know is more expensive.

The only other DVD player that I know will fulfill your 1st 4 criteria is the Konzert DVD player, but is now unavailable and is expensive at Php 9,999.00. :-\

You may want to read on the Best DVD thread, there are claims that it's macrovision free, but do bring your VHS recorder, blank tape and an original RCE encoded R1 and R3 for verification, since some salespeople will swear that the player  is macrovision free and, once asked to demonstrate,  the media used was either a PDVD or worse VCD :o ??? ::) ;) ;D

Hi there phantom,

You can enable the Preferences of your Nextbase Porta only when no disc is loaded, if DVD disc is loaded Preference can be change via the disc menu pressing "Root" on the remote control and selecting Language, Subtitle, Etc.

Hey guy I've been in Watson, there is no stock for the NextBase DVD9000, next week pa raw sila magkaka-stock. Call first before you go there.

need help guys..
just bought an mdv1. planning to get a 5.1 speaker system either a creative inspire 5.1 or an Altec Lancing 251 computer home theatre.

question is HOW will i connect these speakers if the only audio output from the mdv1 is its analog left/right/video rca outputs and its digital out connector. from what i know the 5.1 speakers are terminated by three stereo mini-jacks.

Is there any way from not getting a receiver in order to make the 5.1 speakers to work? unlike the nextbase dvd-9000 there already are rca outputs for front, center, rear and sub.

Who knows how to upgrade the firmware of NEXTBASE DMV4 /DMV1? Where to download the firmware?

http://www.merconnet.com/faq.php

I think someone posted this link on one of the other threads, but in any case it's worth placing again here.  this fw upgrade may be of interest to those of you having playback issues with your NB portables.

the odd thing is merconet doesn't specify the which model the fw file is for.  (they sell both MDV1 and DMV4.)  possibly, they run on the same firmware (?)  in any case, the flashing softeware should have a failsafe to prevent you from overwriting with an incompatible bin file -- or so i would hope.

as far as i know, wala pa ang tablet dvd player of nextbase.

pag meron, i will post it immediately. inaabangan ko rin, not really to buy it ASAP, but to see it working in front of me to check if its a good buy.

my concern is since its supposed to be a portable dvd player with screen, at that size, the audio might have to suffer a bit. much like audio of laptops (medyo tunog lata?)

I would think these portable players are meant to be viewed with earphones anyway.  :)  I myself am looking forward to getting one for christmas, hehe.

Hay salamat may sumagot din sa thread na ito. Imagine, July 17 pa ang last post ko.

Sana available na rin before x'mas, gift ko sa sarili ko if this is a good buy.

Ito raw ang local distributor ng NB:

737 Caballeros st.
Rm. 305 Lysinghiap Bldg. In front of El Cano Tower 2
Between streets of Lavezares and Clavel
Walking distance from Divisoria Mall

Please call first before going there or ask for ANGIE (244-6446)
2456680 2456748

Last time i check this new NB with them, 2 to 3 months pa raw ito para maging available. Sana nga.

thanks for the update, bestbuy88. yes, i have the same apprehension that the audio might not sound too good. i just hope that the headphone out can drive a pair of headphones to a decent level.

looking forward to your review.

have a nice day!

One of my officemates said he saw the SDV17-A tablet in Greenhills the other day. Not sure where, but it was going for P21-K. One of the members, p.dividdy saw it in Ambassador as well going for P19.5-K.
