but if its the same as an nmt, these things usually have settings that lets you output in the resolution that you want (ie 720p, 1080i, 720p 60, 1080p 60 etc). so in theory if you play an .avi file that is low resolution like the divx/xvid kind, it should output/upscale it to your chosen hd resolution.

but the result imho is not nice, these machines were made primarily to play mkv hd files, wherein the files are already in hd resolution. but of course the beauty of wd is its really affordable. so you can't go wrong with it, even if its upscaling is not that good. just play the mkvs.  ;D

^AFAIK one with digital input (toslink). Pwede din naman composite pero siyempre mas maganda yung digital na.

Any speaker will do, but you will need to amplify the line signal coming from the WD, then connect the amplified signals to speakers.  The choice of speakers depends on the amplifier/receiver and room size.

If you want to keep it simple, I recommend multimedia speakers (speakers for computers).  Get a 2.1 setup (2 mains and 1 subwoofer).  They're easy to use because the amplifier is built-in; they're widely available and they're very cheap.

Try this:

Creative Inspire T3100.  Cheap lang, list price at Villman is P1,899.

My advice is that you should get a multimedia setup only if you want a 2.0 or 2.1 system.

If you want 5.1 sound, multimedia speakers would not be a practical choice because the ones with Dolby/DTS decoders are so expensive that you would get better value from a setup with separate receiver & speakers.

Ok ang Xenon sa DVD player with internal Dolby/DTS decoders, but I think the WD's internal decoder does not decode to analog 5.1; it only downconverts to 2.0 in the digital domain, then decodes to analog 2.0.

A 5.1 digital signal can be passed through by the WD via toslink, but the output is still a 5.1 digital signal, not 6 separate analog channels.

I have xenon 5.1 speakers.  They are pretty good for the price but as sir barrister has said, it only accepts analog inputs.  Better get a separate system to match your WD TV---receiver + speakers.  But if you really want a multimedia pc speaker that can decode dolby/dts, a worthy but pricey set to consider is Logitech Z5500.

Guys,

I dont know if you are experiencing these issues with your WD TV HDD Player:

1. HDD always detached the next time I turn it on, remedies done wre 1)turn on/off 2)detach/attach the passport HDD & had replaced USB cable purchased at CDR King.
2. Resolution always go back to "auto" and always adjust to the native resolution of the LCD panel.

I'm somewhat annoyed and I don't know if this is normal?

Mine is connected with Denon 3806 via HDMI (video) & optical (audio). Firware already upgraded.

guys, may price na tayo :> PM for details.  will give package pricing for wdtv + wd mybook essentials (or whatever drive you prefer).

should be available (sana) by friday.  reserve nalang, limited quantities eh.  if some of you guys can arrange a group buy, why not, but do note that limited ang quantities so we can't wait that long.

oh, big caveat: wala pa to HDMI or any other cables (maybe except composite), so mag budget na din kayo.

anu package price with 1tb  wd mybook?  text me 09209035880

#1 My 1TB is always connected/detected and I've been using the other USB port for other external drive/thumb drive. So far never encountered that problem.

#2 re: resolution resets to 'Auto' (every time you power on), it's normal po. I think it's part of the design for user convenience (so we can just use it in other TV with different resolution).
