keema,

My partitioned Lacie brick external HD (NTFS format) works very well with the WDTV.  It can detect both partition. One partition is for videos, the other is for pictures.

Hope this helps.

Kasi ganyan din yung DIY external HD ko (Seagate and generic casing) when I was plugging it sa side can't be recognized.
When I plugged it in the rear USB slot (tabi ata ng HDMI) everything was OK.

amethyst - pag 1TB mas ok na mag NTFS ka na. FAT32 may limitations sa file na pwede mo lagay, if I remember correctly FAT32 can only hanlde files up to 4GB. So kung meron ka hidef movie na nasa 5GB and up you won't be able to load it sa FAT32 formatted HDD.

i see. thanks, sir. :)

@ Jeyps11_c

Guys, I have a couple of questions with your units...

1. Does the resume funtion goes back to where you left off when you TURN OFF completely the unit? Mine doesn't and Its annoying.

2. Does your portable HDD (including passport) power down when you switch off (standby mode) your WD media player? How many minutes?

1. Does the resume funtion goes back to where you left off when you TURN OFF completely the unit? Mine doesn't and Its annoying.

That's normal, and it's a common complaint.

Turn off via the remote, and the resume functions when the unit is tuned back on.  Unplug the power supply and all resume memories are erased.

2. Does your portable HDD (including passport) power down when you switch off (standby mode) your WD media player? How many minutes?

I have a My Passport 320 GB.  The drive automatically powers down when idle for 10 minutes.  The WD does not have to be switched off, and does not have to be in standby mode.

Even if the WD is on, the My Passport will power down after a 10 minute idle time.  However, its white LED light is always on, and it will stay lighted even after the drive has already spun down.

If the LED is always on, how do you determine if the My Passport has already powered down?  Easy.  Just touch the My Passport.  If it vibrates, it means that the drive is spinning; if it doesn't vibrate, the drive is at rest.

Since our WDTV could only be shut off via remote, do you guys still unplug the unit?  After watching at night, I just shut it off via remote and come morning the unit is hot to the touch.  So now I'm thinking of unplugging it na rin....

Yes, I unplug mine once in a while, but I use a power strip.

Here's my old post:

I use a power strip with individual illuminated switches, and it works fine.  They're available in any hardware store at the malls:

An external power switch is a convenient way to turn the WD and My Passport fully off.  I prefer flicking a switch rather than having to plug and unplug sockets repeatedly.  Medyo mahal lang, kasi may circuit breaker included.

i just noticed that i can turn off the WD drive completely either by just unplugging the USB connector at either end, or powering down (not standby) the WD TV. to be safe though, i just turn off my main (BADA line conditioner) switch just to be safe.

Finally had a relative order one for me via amazon - so hope to join you guys in a few weeks.

BTW- do we assume that newer units bought today still has the first firmware that has to be updated when it gets here?

Thanks for the replies sir's barrister & andre.

Actually my WD TV and WD Drive is plugged into a Bada line conditioner together with my other gears so if I'm only watching tv the WD TV gets hot (a bit of a hassle to plug and unplug both units).  I guess I'll just get me one of those adaptors that has a switch.  It would also eliminate the powering up of both units once I switch on my Bada.  ;)

macdon, I got my unit last week and still needed to upgrade the firmware.  Lucky for me I got it from Ehome so they did it for me.  ;D

guys...

i have my WD TV connected through optical cable to a panasonic SC-PT465.  It says it can decode dts and dolby digital.

my problem is whenever i play 720p files with DTS audio, there's no sound coming out.

i was under the impression that the wd tv will pass the dts signal through the optical cable and the receiver will decode it.

wonder why nothing's happening.  pag ibang format may sound naman.

any suggestions?

thanks...

Thanks for the info sir. Hindi naman cguro mahirap gawin yung upgrade. All I can do now is wait till the unit arrives here.

Ang pagkaalam ko walang pang DTS ang WD - so lets hope the WD will get their DTS license soon.

I read somewhere that not all htib have DTS decoding functionality when the audio input is coming from optical in.  DTS decoding is available on when playing a DVD. check nyo na lang sir.

edit: confirmed sir, walang dts decoding via optical in http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=87438.0

Sir your right.  Although i read somewhere that since it doesn't decode the dts it passes it through to the optical cable out so if
you have a receiver that decodes dts then the sound will come out.  taka lang ako coz the panasonic has dts decoding.
