mukhang meron ng progress yung pag modify ng firmware ng wd tv base sa isang thread sa AVS.  i think a few already managed to add network connectivity using usb wifi dongle pero nagtest pa sila.

here's the link to the thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1100062&page=7

Sir your right.  Although i read somewhere that since it doesn't decode the dts it passes it through to the optical cable out so if
you have a receiver that decodes dts then the sound will come out.  taka lang ako coz the panasonic has dts decoding.

Sensya na po kung mali basa ko........but if you have a movie file with DTS inside your WDplayer, connect it to your avr that has DTS via optical,  then the avr will do the encoding para lumabas sa speakers in DTS form?

But arent all avrs for the past 10yrs have already DTS? Or are you referring to the newer codecs like  DTS-ES, TrueHD, Master Audio, etc.?

Sorry sa mga tanong - baguhan lang po ako sa mga HD systems na ganito ;D

Sirs, Ive read that not all HTIB pala with Optical In can decode DTS with Egreat/ WDTV.

Can anyone confirm if the Samsung Z210's Optical IN can indeed be used with Egreat/WDTV to decode DTS?

I cant wait na kase for the firmware update of Egreat/WDTV biling bili na ako :P

But I have to get first an HTIB with DTS with Optical IN..... I just have to be sure if that particular HTIB's Optical IN will indeed work with Egreat/WDTV.

so far kase parang yung Samsung Z210 lang yata ang pinaka-affordable for me at the moment...correct me if Im wrong :)

Thanks...

thanks for the link chief!

another question: how do you remove an audio track? may file kasi ako na merong DD5.1 track in russian. sayang yung space na consumed nya, and i want to remove it since di ko naman maiintindihan, might as well replace it with a DD5.1 and DTS track.

thanks!

Use "mkvmerge" which is free. Easier to use the GUI version. Use Google to search for it. Worked for me.

Try using mkv2vob.  I have HP Goblet of Fire 1080p which was playable in my HTPC but had some audio dropouts in my WDTV.  When I used mkv2vob to convert the file, it played flawless in my WDTV.

Hi all!

I've read somewhere (can't remember the link) that the WDTV has problems w/ 1080P files?? Occassional "hanging", but for 720P no problem...any similar experience?? I am considering this, Thanks!

I have 2 movies na 1080p and meron ako problems with audio. Haven't isolated though if it is the WDTV or the file.
Pero meron ako mga 720p movies and TV series but I'm not having problems with those.

I finally got my WDHD from the post last Friday and brought it to eHome the next day Saturday for a firmware upgrade and to get my 1tb WD Studio.
Hooking up was a breeze with a HDMI cable from the WDHD going to the plasma and an optical cable going to my Rotel processor.

Watching 720 & 1080 movies were great - picture quality is tops as well as the audio. Althou, there are some movies that seemed like only my center speaker is active - I guess it boils down to the codec that the movie was downloaded. I also noticed a slight sub boom in all movies - but not that irritating and could be adjusted in either the sub or processor.

What annoyed me a bit was when powering down the units - I used the remote of the WDHD to turn it off, but the light of the 1tb Studio remained lit. I waited for about 30min and the light was still lit. I reached to the back of the Studio to turn it off, but it just flickered for a few seconds and returned to its lit condition.
Both units are plugged to a powerstrip that has individual switches - so I switched off where the studio was plugged.
Anyone experienced this with their WD hard drive?

welcome to the world of HD, bro. with the WD HD TV, WD has allowed us to get our feet wet on the realm of hi-def features and movies. i am beginning to get spoiled now with crisp pictures on my ae-900 PJ.

about the WD and the attached USB drive... mine does exhibit the same quirks as your setup. what i do is turn off the player through the remote then completely power it down by switching it off from the outlet. you'll then see the drive light slowly then completely fade out. then i turn off its power supply also.

i had a bad experience with an amp and a 29" TV on standby that got hit by power fluctuations. some chips inside were affected, necessitating some costly repairs (though fortunately the tv was on an extended warranty). so now i don't leave any equipment on standby for so long.

i have the same observation as you on the audio side. seems the conversions somehow affect the audio too coz some materials sound different as i remember them from my dvd copies.

Thanks for the welcome bro ;D

Yup - I really enjoyed the pq of the WDHD - super clear & crisp and better than DVDs. For audio naman - just a tad limited dependent on the file - really small quirks I guess. Even the bass boom can be adjusted naman, but is better in DVDs.  Small trade-offs i guess.

As for the powering off, Marvin of eHome suggested I try ejecting the drive. Will try that also later.

Sir gearhead, naka ae900u ka pala? Will pm you sir ;D
