Have any of you experienced having all your HD channels going out? Signal strength and quality is 0. But all my SD channels are fine. Signal strength around 170, but signal quality is 0.

The typhoon did not affect us, only some rains.

reposting from the other section:

No signal when it rains; is it common to Cignal?

it is not common to cignal...
it is common to ALL satellite broadcast TV using ku band and it is called RAIN FADE

also, it is not only when "raining" that it will lost signal.
you can categorize the rain level... you will lost signal only during HEAVY rain.
drizzle and normal rain would be okay as long as the satellite dish is properly tuned. (like last Sunday PPV)
another thing, thunder clouds has bigger impact due to cumulonimbus clouds, that is a wall of water up in the sky that can block satellite feed. that's why sometimes they lost signal before it rains, but when the rain start pouring broadcast resumes. We use that as indicator in less than 5 min. heavy rain will come.

it is worst to other satellite provider... why?
- they use smaller satellite dish diameter, cignal uses 75cm, other use 65cm /55cm
- they use a not so powerful satellite, Agila used to be the best satellite signal strength but it is already nearing end of life.

Bigger dish (6ft diameter) dish can solve rain fade?
Answer is NO, ku band is realy affected by rain fade
C band (freq) is the answer to rain fade, but it is not used by satellite tv providers. they use ku band.

fyi

I saw the CIGNAL crew van around noontime today. I told them I have a pending application since the pre pacquiao fight but got no call from them. Ayun, 2pm nakabitan ako agad  . Mas ok palang dumertso sa field crew para magpakabit instead of talking to CIGNAL reps (over the phone). I also got their personal cellphones para pag me service needed diretso na ako sa kanila (field crews).

After 2 days daw activation for my plan 1290. I hope this is all worth it!

Tanong ko lang: paano i-set yung CLOCK sa digibox?

@thebat: baka meron sila incentive pag mga instant install kaya ganun, tama si darth, mag sync yan once activated.

problem with the new HD unit is that we do not know if it is on standby mode or ON since the clock always shows.

may orange led sya na naka-on pag standby. pero ang problem kahit naka standby sya, 20watts pa rin ang consumption while during normal operation around 24watts. parang useless din yong standby nya.

when I reached home around 9pm excited ako only to find out wala pang signal yung cignal ko. di pa activated. BUT, around 11pm I noticed na gumalaw yung clock at tumama na yung oras, ayun... meron na! And I was flabbergasted to see the HD channels!!! Ang ganda pala talaga! Palipat lipat na lang ako sa HD channels ayaw ko na manuod sa SD channels, hehe.

Btw, naging 10HD channels na ngayong umaga. +1 channel = net25/GEM HD, Iglesias HD channel in test brodcast. Ang linaw ah! Lampaso ang 2 and 7 sa Iglesia net station meron HD! ;D

Meron delay yung pag on ng digibox?

I always unplug the unit kse and whenever I plug it back I notice di consistent yung power button from stand by to on tapos me delay bago lumitaw yung clock at mag on yung unit? Why is that so?

like a computer... it has boot up sequence.

will take 2min. to initialize. I normally just leave it on standby for quick watching and unplug it overnight or when leaving the house.

but, i don't find it consuming lotsa power on stadny. I believe the standby power on manual is a typo error. could be just 2W not 20W as indicated.

Di si nababasa ng AVR at TV.

the 20watts standby is not from the manual, i measured it with a wattmeter.

The HD box has an ethernet port at the back.  Has anyone tried using this?  Maybe it has a web interface.

ethernet port at the back is a future usage for IPTV. Internet Protocol TV is designed for MDU subscribers wherein satellite dish is not allowed for use. instead, they use LAN cable to distribute satellite signal. it is commonly used in Singapore wherein LAN cable is used for telephone, cable, internet using fiber optic technology.

I know for one condo ongoing construction that they are being designed to accomodate such technology.
I have seen one demo unit working in cignal office, dunno if it is still there. IPTV requires at least 2MBPS speed for a seamless connection.

@APJC: That is nice to know, but bad for the budget :(

Thanks Bro.   So I guess there isn't much, if anything, to be had from connecting it to your LAN.    Any idea why Cignal's rates are lower than Sky's?  Actually I prefer cable, it seems more reliable.  During the recent rains, our dish could not get a signal.  Now my wife wants me to put rabbit ears on the TVs :(.

IMHO, cignal rates are not lower. it is Sky that is charging too much on their subscription rates. remember that they always make sure they had the majority of the market to make a commanding position. when competition comes they simply buy them out like what happened to home cable and some provincial cable operators that they bought. it is again the monopoly thinking of Lopez group.

as for the lost signal during heavy rain, we simply tell our subscribers... what is 5-10minutes of appreciation of what the Lord has made? :) enjoy the rain and sip some coffee with your loved ones. it is better than getting glued to your TV all the time.

thanks koyang... i'll try it when i'm home... by checking and setting signal output. If direct hdmi to TV it works yung lang yung sound di siya ganun kalakas since malayo-layo ng kaunti yung viewing sidstance

Availed of plan P1290 and unit  was installed last May 22. Up to this time -- after repeated calls to Cignal and the installer, and after repeated checks on the parameters (which are all okay) as well as numerous soft and hard boots, I still have only about 20 channels. No HD and no movie channels, whatsoever, when I'm supposed to be getting all 60-plus channels.
:-\ This is such a big disappointment!!!

I dont think cignal has 60+ channel?
or do you mean the HD channels from ch60 to 68?

that unit needs to be retracked or re activated.
try also to reset your unit., ask your installer how.

if still same, better have the unit re checked, especially if it is the new PACE unit.

Thanks Pentium. Today, the installer will be paying us a third visit. All of the missing channels  which I never had from the very start (all HDs, all movie channels, ABC 5, GMA7, etc.) have the diagnostic message "not locked." and their signal test bars are both zero. The few channels that are NOT MISSING have "locked" diagnostic message and strong (182 and 80) test bars.  The channel guide has the complete channel listing though.

If I remember it right, during the pointing of the satellite dish, only Channel 1 (Aksyon TV) was tested for signal strength. I don't remember Channel 5  (ironically, ABC 5 of the MVP conglomerate) being scanned for signal strength during the dish-pointing. When the installers came down from the rooftop, they were at a loss why there's no Channel 5 when even before activation and right after installation, Channels 1 and 5 should already be there. But no effort was made to re-point the dish to correct the "not locked" and zero signal test bars of Channel 5 as it was already dark by then.

I have a gut feeling that all the missing channels are grouped with Channel 5. Taking note that the system is dual band, I'd like to ask Sir. Pentium:  Shouldn't it be  standard operating procedure during installation to test both Channels 1 and 5 for signal lock and signal strength during dish-pointing? If it is correct that there are two channel groupings, I suspect that the group which includes the HD channels are more unforgiving of dish-pointing error, if such is the case.

As I've mentioned in my earlier post, I have gone through with all the resets, hard and soft boots many times already, as guided on phone by Cignal's call center agents and my installer. My account has already been activated and reactivated a number of times, but nothing has resolved the issue.

Anyway, whatever the problem may be (dish-pointing error, defective receiver or LNB or cable fault, etc)  I just want to get ALL of the channels I am paying for, considering that I am tied to this contract for three years. Still, as a consumer, I can pre-terminate this without paying any penalty in the light of the other contracting party's failure to provide service as elucidated in the contract. I don't want to do that but I can't be paying P1,290 a month for free to air channels I can get with a rabbit antenna and a few foreign channels I already have with my existing cable.
