OT lang: I want to utilize the 5.1 audio of the Cignal HD channels. My problem is, my old yamaha receiver only handles digital optical audio in so that eliminates the HDMI audio connection. I noticed meron S/PDIF digital audio out yung HD box.

My question is: meron bang S/PDIF to optical na cable or probably a converter? If meron saan nakakabili?

Update on my Cignal install problem. As I suspected, it was an improperly aligned dish. Had the original install guy bothered to check the dish alignment instead of blaming everything else, then the problem would not have dragged on unnecessarily for two weeks. It's now okay thanks to the other guy who, nonchalantly, went through the trouble-shooting checklist.

Sa mga magpapakabit ng Cignal in the future, insist on having the signal strength on Channel 5 verified too as strong during the dish-pointing procedure because the assumption that once Channel 1 tests good then the rest of the channels are also good is not valid. You can get strong signals at Channel 1 and zero at Channel 5. This tells us that there are two channel groupings, represented in the initial install by Channels 1 and 5.

I do hope you enjoy the HD channels kse me and my wife are already stuck with these 10 channels. Nagaaway pa kme kse gusto NBA lang sya as usual food and discovery flower gardens, hehe.

Metro Manila rin, sir thebat. Yes. Meron na lahat ng channels. In fairness to the install firm, wala namang service fees pero medyo nakakapundi rin iyong panay ang palusot samantalang paling lang pala yung kabit.

that's nice Questor, looks like it was not properly tuned.
take note that HD channels transponder 17 is more sensitive than SD transponder 13 thus, on poor weather condition, HD is lost first before SD channels go out.

Cignal is billed one month in advance (check bill statement at the back)
upon installation, you already paid one month advance on it.

actually, postpaid and prepaid is not correct

it should be Prepaid Account and Billed Account
because when we say Pre Paid, that means we are paying for the service that we will be using
while Postpaid means we are paying the service that we already used.

in essence, Cignal and other company charging advance one month is not really a postpaid account anymore.

i moved from cabuyao to pacita...... di sinasagot yung phone ng taong nirefer sa akin ng cignal cabuyao....

1 week na akong sa pacita and still nakatiwangwang yung dish ko.....

Thus far, I've only tested the digital out of HBO and Star Movies from the coax of the STB going into the receiver.

For the films I've seen in HBO HD, the implementation of the 5.1 digital out is wrong. You get the voice from all of the channels, including the surrounds. No panning of sound whatsoever. It seems the center channel is merely replicated in all the other channels. Selecting two-channel PCM digital out for dolby prologic or dts neo processing, only the center channel gets active.

For Star Movies HD, actual surround information is decoded by prologic and dts neo using two-channel pcm, leading to the conclusion that the star movies hd pcm out is indeed two separate channels unlike the hbo hd pcm which, I suspect, is only really one channel.

I don't know if the above will also hold true from the hdmi out going into the receiver since my pioneer receiver does not have hdmi

please note that HBO HD sometimes or most of the times show movies that are still not HD.
unlike Star Movies.

that may be the reason for the audio decoding.

We just had our Cignal Satellite installed last Saturday, the installer told us na may 48-hour wait to get all the channels, as initially only chanel 1 and 5 will be available. My question is that, if we accidentally turned off the box, ma-re-reset ba ulit to a 48-hour wait, parang ganun kasi ang nangyari. We got 2 boxes, yung one kasi, all channels are already available, pero yung isa, na-unplug ata so wla pa rin hanggang ngayon

I noticed yung time sa box, tama na pag available na yung channels.

@ntlopez: call your installer and have the second unit retracked, na activate po ang unit when it was off. initially unit should be ON to received activation code being sent to the unit.
