kelan kaya maaactivate and PVR function ng cignal stb? ang skycable starting to upgrade firmware na for this feature. kahit pala cablelink digital activated na ang pvr, limited nga lang.

PVR coming soon

i believe they prioritize getting the new transponder and mpeg4 than the PVR.

New transpoder? so new transpoder means additional channels right?

If my understanding is correct, a transponder can have around 9 SD channels depending on the desired picture quality. The more channels you try to fit in to a transpoder, the lesser the picture quality. So, if Cignal is negotiating for a new transponder, it may mean additional channels or, if not, to free up space on the other transponders to improve picture quality.

@talkingdongkey: yes, a transponder means more channels. it could be 8 SD channels or 4 HD channels. but with mpeg4 compression. you may put more channels without sacrificing the channel quality.

mpeg4 compression can add more channels without the need to get another transponder.
also, if they will lease a new transponder... it will be for HD.

if you successfully upgrade your STB, you can get the PPV for FREE

software upgrade is to fully migrate to the new satellite SES-7 coming from NSS11
if you fail to upgrade your STB SW, it will result to missing channels.

Is the sw upgrade appicable to all subscribers? As per cignal website, applicable lang daw for subscribers that have 2 or more boxes.

I'm still on the fence on subscribing to HD broadcasts.

I like the packages offered by Cignal better and their prices are definitly more realistic than Sky Cable HD but the lack of History Channel HD is a sore sticking point.  :P

Sir pentium4, just to clarify your posts on the SW upgrade:

For subscribers with just one box like me, I understand that the upgrade will be automatic since by default, LNB Powering mode is set to ON. But we don't get the Pacquiao-Marquez PPV for free - only subscribers with 2 or more boxes get it for free because, per the reason given on the Cignal TV FAQ page, "they need to follow additional steps in updating the software". Just because of that, it's free for those subscribers? I don't get it.

Exactly.. that's kinda unfair for the other subscribers who only have a single unit.

looks like it is the case for the multiple boxes.
that is because they will send a 3rd party contractor if they fail to upgrade their boxes.
letting the subscribers upgrade themselves and giving free PPV rather than sending a personnel will be cheaper.

single box subscribers will have OTA upgrade automatically by the system on the said dates.

as for the PPV: PPV in HD format direct from source, PPV in SD format is from Solar.
