Final Update

Update ulit. Baka matapos ko na today!

Here are a few pics of the room. I'm very thankful for having a very patient architect :) Each piece of the panel was framed and had rockwool in it. This was certainly no easy feat, the pattern was psuedo-random and each piece had to fit together, just like a puzzle. That.takes.time. But the end result is something that's quite unique.

It's been a while. I first posted my bedroom theatre here 5 years ago and now, I am working on a dedicated HT. I'll continue to update this thread with progress pix.

[OLD STUFF]

Hello PDVDers!

    2 weeks ago, I bought a Pana 42PV80 from TW (thanks Jeff!) and the htib that came with it to get started with a simple bedroom setup. Coincidentally, I was also in the process of having my very small room renovated (9.5ft width and 12 ft length). I was originally set on making it very minimalistic and zen-like (all white). But.. I came across the HT galleries here and contemplated on designing it much like how HTs here are designed (with walls covered in fabric, recessed celing, cove lighting, etc.)

It sounds crazy for a bedroom, but I said what the heck and decided to get on with it. Anyway, due to the limitations in terms of size, I had to maximize every little space I had. I can't install the rockwools for the acoustical treatment because my bed wont fit! So, in this aspect, I decided on form over function.

For the hardware, I have a very budgeted setup. A Pana 42PV80, the SC-PT465 htib (I love how I can dock my iPhone on this thing. It's so convenient!), and a 1TB egreat. I figure that I'll just upgrade my sound setup in the future. Gota keep the costs down :)

[completion update]
After 3 long weeks, the project is now complete. I'm pretty satisfied with the output. Simple setup lang pero pwede na ren :)

Everything is wall mounted, the speakers, tv cabinets etc. The av rack is hidden below the aircon. Nakakapagod! Pero sarap ng feeling.

[3rd update]
We are almost done covering the walls with breatheable fabric

I had the original flooring changed to white pine wood.

Installed the tv, tested the htibs and everything seems to be working pa naman :)

That's it for now.. hopefully we get to finish everything today.

[2nd update]
Here are some minor updates for the room

We've finally finished all the framing using 1x2 wood and cut-out all the walls that will be covered by breathable fabric.

I also replaced my window-type aircon to split-type. I asked the guys who installed my aircon to make the hole from the old-window type bigger so I can use that as my hidden cabinet which would serve as my av rack.

Had my carpinter install a hanging cabinet where my dvds and other stuff will be kept. This will also have a cover.

hi macky, off to a great start!  buti naman di umaangal is wifey or special someone na you 'commandeered' the bedroom  :D  the recessed sealing ang blue uplights look good.  Looking forward to your progress buddy.  Cheers!  ;)

Lagi nga ako nasasabihan kung ano ano daw pinag gagawa ko sa kwarto ko. Sabi ko na lang na relax lang sya, mag eenjoy naman sya pag natapos eh hahaha. Weird daw yung theater design sa room, sabi ko astig nga yung weird eh. Kasi araw araw para kang nasa sinehan lol.

sir macky, bakit po 48check ang napili niyong handle (just curious)?  anyhow...i always envy those that have the capability to transform a modest room into something different.  just the mere thought of it is already an achievement.  entirely fulfillng once completed.  do keep us posted.

great start bro!!!

suggestions:

1. curtains over the blinds... use thick curtain rods
2. bagay sa walls mo, neutral color... gray shade (tignan mo shades ng ace paint) 1 gallon lang yan, use matte kung imperfect ang paletada ng walls mo
3. accent the gray walls with colorful curtains

aba tama ka, parang bagong experience yan for you and your wife - para kayong natutulog sa sinehan!!!
well pag mejo di pa rin nagustuhan, baka dapat siguro mag-pa-extend ka na for a full HT room!  ;D  Naku, that's the fad nowadays dito sa pdvd, sabay-sabay nag-gagawan ng dikdikated HT room - why don't you join in?  :D

Sir ang balak ko roman shades na black out, yung wall naman hindi ko pipinturahan kasi tatakpan ko ng plywood na nakawrap ng fabric na breathable (duotone combination beige-black). Yung ceiling naman, gray tapos ung sahig papa hardwood laminate ko.

Ito ung pic nung wall na gusto ko gayahin.. bale ung gitna ko black tapos ung taas and baba beige

Sir marl, nakita ko pala ung setup nyo. Astig! Anyway, wala talaga kami kwarto for a full ht room. Pag ginawa ko naman na HT room ung sala, lagot ako sa nanay ko!

congratz! brader macky, ganda ng kinalabasan ng cove light mo... sa corners pwede mo rin sana lagyan ang recess light with dimmer control...   :o  :o  :o

halos lahat naman nag-umpisa sa basic setup... matagal rin akong nagtyaga sa CRT Tv, kailan lang ako bumili  ng flat panel ng medyo stable na ang display resolutions...   :D  ;D

After 3 long weeks, the project is now complete. I'm pretty satisfied with the output. Simple setup lang pero pwede na ren :)

Everything is wall mounted, the speakers, tv cabinets etc. The av rack is hidden below the aircon. Nakakapagod! Pero sarap ng feeling.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

For the benefit of those interested and asked, here's a rough estimate breakdown of how much the renovation costs:
Lighting - 3000 (rope lights, t5 light, ceiling lights and center light)
Wood Materials - 10000
Labor - 15000 (this really depends on what work you want to get done, if you have your own carpenter then you can negotiate the costs)
Fabric - 6000 (this one is a bit expensive in my opinion because I chose the easy route and never went to divisoria. I paid 180 per yard so I'm sure you can keep this cost much lower if you do the homework and legwork yourself. I had mine delivered kasi.
Laminated floors - 5600 (materials and labor)

So roughly 40,000 all in.

don't get the onkyo 506 if you plan to watch bluray movies from your ps3... the hdmi does not pass through audio in the 506 so you're amps won't receive hd audio formats (dolby truehd and dts hd). Get the onkyo 605... or if you have more money to spare the 606 which is the newer version of the 605. supports more hdmi inputs and slightly better features. i have a 605 and it's awesome. really nice room by the way  ;)

We've finally finished all the framing using 1x2 wood and cut-out all the walls that will be covered by breathable fabric.

I also replaced my window-type aircon to split-type. I asked the guys who installed my aircon to make the hole from the old-window type bigger so I can use that as my hidden cabinet which would serve as my av rack.

Boss yung source ko is lossless music from my itunes. From itunes naka stream yung music ko papuntang floorstanders using apple airport express. Bale parang itunes > airport express > aux in of onkyo 606 > floorstanders

I did almost the same thing...ipod wireless connected to my preamp. So puede ng bitbit ang ipod sa couch.   ;D

@juancho - thanks sir, it is quite cozy indeed. Nothing beats a day's worth of hard labor by just chillaxin in your own room with options to either watch an HD movie or listen to music.

indeed sir Macky... I've learned much infos here and have known very kind & helpful buddies.. hence, PinoyDVD is a favorite site  8)

on topic: with your images posted here i've learned some infos on how to execute very well carpentry work.. will try to follow these when i endeavour on renovating my bedroom in the near future or when mr. Wallet allows  8)

Update ulit. Baka matapos ko na today!

Here are a few pics of the room. I'm very thankful for having a very patient architect :) Each piece of the panel was framed and had rockwool in it. This was certainly no easy feat, the pattern was psuedo-random and each piece had to fit together, just like a puzzle. That.takes.time. But the end result is something that's quite unique.

Impossible in that size room. It is physically impossible to put enough room treatment in a room that size to absorb everything. There is more to treatment than just padding. Some frequencies require treatment devices that occupy huge spaces.

One can just sit and accept the effects. Good or bad. To see how your room is sounding, you can play music loud. Most anomalies come out in high volumes.  A frequency sweep will also reveal room response. You will hear tones go up an down.

The amount of absorption depends on the material used, it's STC or Rw rating. The enquiry was for the installer or owner to provide us specifics, and not to immediately jump to the conclusion by looking at images of the portion of the room... I invoke this subject for the members like me to get educated not to....

with all the absorption + the carpet - yes. very close to an anechoic effect. Not the most optimal for pure audio listening.

I love it. Especially pag paired with Cayin tube. Audition mo sa audio amplified. Free naman :)

Even in HT setup, room dynamics is also essential in some locations to have more enveloping effect of surround channels.
