Hey guys. Can anyone give me some advice? I really want to get into audio. My setup now is really lame. Here's how it is. Amp:80's Kenwood 100x2, Speakers: chewed up Pioneer hpm-60's. I just recently purchased a Technics sl-1300 to get me going. My budget is really tight so I'm going to have to upgrade one at a time. Should I go for speakers or a tube amp? Thanks!
My budget is really tight so I'm going to have to upgrade one at a time. Should I go for speakers or a tube amp? Thanks!
@gaol: Very tempted dude. Still weighing my options though. Thanks.
I'm convinced speakers are the next upgrade. How much would good cables set me back? Thanks for the help dudes.
Hi peeps. Auditioned a couple of speakers today after work. I listened to:
1) Mission M72: very well balanced, not too bright
2) B&W 601 S3: very forward and bright
3) PSB something: Nice but 20k is too much
I'm leaning towards the M72's since I simply cant find any other that matches its price/performance. Upscale and Hyper quoted me at 9.9k. Woud B&W 303's be a consideration? Thanks!
i'm selling the mission m72
& lovan 2400 stand combo for only P12,000 (bn).
@hyper: You just made my day. ;D I'm very inclined to go for your offer. I think I just need to audition the dm303's before I finally make my decision. Yes it's the Sansui 7070DB! It really obliterated the Kenwood. Clean powerful sound! I can't get enough of those VU meters though. :)
@cao: Hey man! I really am trying to restrain myself. Uy, I think someone outbid you on that Thorens. Pinoydvd user din ata (henryh?).
After finding that Sansui, I rummaged some more and managed to unearth a Nakamichi. Had to leave for work so I didn't get the model number. I'll update you guys later on the model and performance (if it still works). Dammit, why doesn't my dad tell me these things. Who knows, I might just find a tube. ::)
I pulled the trigger tonight and got the Mission m72's. Hyperaudio gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. Got them with Lovan stands and Ixos cables. Yep, I saw the place. Can I just say before I go on, holy sh*********ttttt! :-* There I got it out of my system.
It took me around 30 mins to get everything up and running. I'm breaking these babies in right now and all I can say is wow. Amazing how they've changed the complexion of my listening experience. Just the best bang for the buck imho.
A big thank you to all you guys for the help and advice. I realized that this can only be the beginning. The infinite number of upgrades leaves me wanting so much more. The flesh is willing but good thing the wallet is not. ;D
Next upgrade will have to be the amplifier. Tubes in 3-4 months. Maybe.
@cao: I heard it at hyper's place and I'm still dumbfounded. A beginner set should set me back around 15k daw. Oh but no, I'm lusting after those 30-40k models. :o Hey what's the proper way of breaking speakers in? Should all the gain knobs be flat and the loudness off? Thanks dude!
@greatbop: whole set (m72's, lovan, ixos) for 13k.
@cao: Ya dude that's what Rene said. The 15k will give me musicality that my solid state can't but feeling ko I might be limited by an integrated amp. God you were right when you said this was a bottomless pit. ;D Even after break-in, should loudness be on or does it matter if its on or off? How bout the gain knobs after break-in? Thanks a mil dude.
Even after break-in, should loudness be on or does it matter if its on or off? How bout the gain knobs after break-in?
Thanks for the help guys! :)
I'd acctually start off with speakers. Dahil you might have a good cd player, ano naman ang gagawin ng speakers mo dun sa signal, if it can't interpret those frequency signals?? Plus quality speakers are long term buys.
Ako, i resently bought a pair of energy xl 150 bookself and a s8.2 subwoofer para dun sa mini system ko dahil i like the convenience it brings but hate the sound that are coming off it...
And right then and there an laki na ng difference ng nakuha ko from sound output. better voice clarity. no more sound distortions... picked up more effects..
amp, ok naman yun dude... get the scott, ok sound nun... ;D the trio is good also... actually, IMO, they're the better sound kenwoods. :)
the difference between going integrated and separates is that with the integrated amp, you are limited to its features, you can add a power amp or other accessories (ie DAC, equalizer, etc.) to it if it has pre-outs.
Which Scott did you hear? Where? I'm having a friend's Scott restored by Hyperaudio. I'm excited to hear what that can do on my system, assuming I'm able to grab 'em from my friend's tight grasp.
1) Will a basic integrated tube amp + m72's + turntable offer dramatic sound improvement over my current solid state + m72's + turntable?
2) If a resounding yes to question 1, what models would you recommend and how much would these cost?
3) Would changing the cartridge (currently shure m92e i think) offer audible gains even with the solid state?
For S/S integrateds, be sure to hear the Rotel RA-931mkII @ ~PhP13k though this has been discontinued I think. Try looking for used NADs 3020/3040 or the newer 302/304 (used to own one), or the current incarnation C340.
since its hard to find the Rotel RA-931mkII, which amp would match better with my Mission floorstanders? the Rotel RA-971mkII OR the Harman Kardon 670 (pero kung me NAD bakit hindi?)
This said, a good entry level integrated is the OEM version of the nOrh SE9 (it's called TS Audio). A neat little 9wpc SET gem. <PhP20k.
How does 9wpc translate to ratings for S/S amps? Will this be able to drive, say the pre-Home Concertinos? ;) ;D
P.S. Isn't it obvious that I'm a tube virgin?
Hi everybody, I just need some answer of which the people in this forum are truly knowledgeable. Here it goes. I have an Onkyo Integra (A-809) integrated amplifier ,a Bose 901 series V speakers and a Pioneer dvd player. I want to upgrade it to a 5.1 system. How can I make use of what I have now in order for me to save some money?
May I please seek the opinion of Audio enthusiasts regarding a decent used SS integrated amplifier fro stereo listening.
I mean, my probable source will be the used amps in Pier. Can you give advise on what particular brand/model is good enough and worth seeking.
I plan to plunge into two channel music through SS amps before really trying the world of tubes.
Thanks.
My present set up is an HT consisting of a Marantz AVR and Mission speakers. I enjoy listening & watching concert DVDs on these.
At present I want to have a dedicated stereo set up and I want to try again the SS amp road first and see where it will take me from there.
Not to disparage stereo, but some reviewers who have listenned to multi-channel SACD and DVD-audio swear they would never go back to plain old stereo. A stereo set-up is basic. But if you want to take advantage of those sonic wonders promised by the new audio-only mediums like SACD and DVD-audio that are touted to sound closer to LPs in terms of musicality, you may want to consider upgrading your multi-channel set-up na lang.
I'm setting my sights on a Rotel 931Mkll (?) even used or new. Any idea how much is this amp?
another question po! ;D
im presently using 10" speakers for my fronts and surrounds kaya sa receiver ko, puro LARGE ang naka indicate. i have a big SUB kaya halos magiba ang bahay sa lakas ng bass. However kulang na ngayon sa HIGHs.
kung e-indicate ko kaya sa receiver na SMALL ung mga speakers ko, will the sound improves? wala kayang mangyayaring technical problem kung gawin ko to? -- thnks--- ;)
Levi, av_phile- thnks for your insights bros, maghapon na naman akong mangangalikot bukas--- ;D
kung e-indicate ko kaya sa receiver na SMALL ung mga speakers ko, will the sound improves? wala kayang mangyayaring technical problem kung gawin ko to? -- thnks--- ;)
Setting the receiver's speaker mode to SMALL means that you are engaging the receiver's bass management feature to route the bass frequencies from your main speakers to the sub-woofer. Adviseable only when using bookshelf types.
I use teeny-weeny Dynaudio Audience 40's but I do prefer listening to it in "large" setting on my receiver. Mas madaling gawin non-directional yung bass when the bookshelves are running full range.
Different strokes for differrent people.
Hi all,
I am new to HT, and just planning to set up my own. I appreaciate some help in answering very basic (stupid) questions.
1) If my receiver is 6.1, ok lang ba if I only have a 5.1 speaker system?
2) Does wiring really matter? Should I invest in thick wires even for the surround speakers?
3) Where should I place the bass? Infront or in the rear? Can I hide it somewhere?
4) Which is better: a down-firing bass or a front-firing one? Both. Subwoofers are designed to serve one purpose... to give life to LFE. If the manufacturer chooses a particular design... its because they have their own study which resulted to have better characteristics than the other design (corresponds to the materials used).
5) What is an "active" bass? You mean, active subwoofer? If so then its has build-in amplifier (either in-board or outboard) to drive the woofer.
6) Should the receiver have a higher power rating than the speakers? If my receiver is 95W, and my speakers are 100W -- ok lang ba?

if i wanted a 5.1 setup(for the audio only), i could just use an integrated amp?
i already got a mini-component so i'll just use its tuner. or are there receivers w/o the tuner and video switching capabilities? i only wanted the audio to be 5.1...
oh, by the way, which is more expensive, the A/V receivers or the integrated amps?
A receiver without a tuner isn't a receiver anymore. :Dhehe... oo nga ano... my bad... ;D
If you think by taking out the tuner and video switching on an HT receiver will allow manufacturers to come out with cheaper products, think again. Taking out tuners and video switching will only save manufacturers a cent or two as these are really cheap silicon chips manufactured by the millions.
Why do you want 5.1 for audio?ooopss, what i meant about this was for the movie audio. :) i know na konti pa lang ang mga musical cd's or dvd audios out there & they are priced exorbitantly...
Have you heard a straight stereo system compared to a 5.1 system? At the same price range (and assuming competent set-up and matching), chances are the straight stereo system would trounce the 5.1 system on stereo material.
Bottomline, you need to decide what you are out to achieve.
Thanks for all the insight. This forum really helps!
I have a couple of other questions I'm hoping you can shed some light:
What's the significance of Impedance and Sensitivity when choosing speakers? I'm looking at the Yamaha NS-P236, and the specs are as follows:
Impedance : 6 Ohms
Sensitivity : 86 dB/2.83 V/m
These are for the satellite speakers. Are these good specs?
I hope you can help. Thanks!!!
naisip ko lang po kasi na gamitin yung tuner, cd player, tape deck nung mini component para di naman sayang yung mini compo.
tapos w/ the video switching feature, is it still necessary kung ang expected video input mo lang naman eh isa(a dvd input)? di ba pwede nang i-diretso yung video output ng dvd player sa TV?
ooopss, what i meant about this was for the movie audio. :)

If I'm on a budget (coz I am just a music hobbyist), what good and cheap stuff (amps and speakers) should I get?
It can be pretty amazing what a 2.0 sytem can achieve.
Now that I have 5 speakers, it's amazing to discover how many DVDs sound better through their stereo tracks rather than through their 5.1 tracks.
I think one has to put the same passion for 5.1, the way he does for 2-channel stereo to fully appreciate what the new format can do.
Now, if I can only find $$$ to also do multi-channel right. :D
i am leaning more towards the onkyo-mordaunt-short combination. can you give me your opinions and inputs? would u recommend another rcvr/spkr system under the budget and along the same specs?
thank you in advance! =)
hi there! like most of the people who posted here with queries, i am also a newbie trying to figure out what entry-level ht set-up would do for my 12 sq. m. room.
i have gone around some shops, and here are my choices:

hi aside having good cables and speakers for audio setup. is it advisable to take off the cover of the speaker to improve sound quality? not so familiar with this thing eh. thanks :)In general, yes. There are some brands whose covers absorb high frequencies. For serious extended listening, whether the cloth coves are transparent or not, I always remove the speaker covers.
Anyway, it seems that there is a lot of following here for the harman/kardon - monitor audio combination. Is it really that good?
Btw, I know that there is also quite a following here for the onkyo-mordaunt/short combo, how would you compare it with the hk-ma combo in terms of price and quality of sound? This question goes to everyone.
Thanks!
You'll get different recommendations. What is OK for one may not be so to another. This is more subjective and personal than anything. Suggest you visit some AV shops and audition them and hear the difference for yourself, if any.
Hey guys... some more dummy-newbie questions here:
1. pag sinabing ang av receiver ay 100 watts, ibig sabihin nun per channel 100 watts sya di ba? hindi 100watts total of all channels?
2. ano ba ang tamang impedance rating ng mga speakers? 8 ba or 6 or 4?
3. ano ang ibig sabihin ng Kevlar Cone? At bakit maganda ito (or maganda nga ba)?
1. meron bang sub na kevlar cone ang gamit? teka, may cone ba ang subs? sa totoo lang hindi ko alam kung ano yung cone na tinutukoy nyo pero hayaan nyo na
2. what does "bottom-out" mean in terms of subs?
3. meron akong nakitang subs na may butas (port yata ang tawag dun) at merong wala. ano ang mas maganda?Ported speaker or sub enclosures give off more bass as the port acts like another driver that reinforces the main driver. Efficiency is almost doubled. They are preferred for Home theater but frowned at when it comes to music.
hello guys,
im planning to get a subwoofer with a budget of 5K and below.
can someone please give me some tips on what i have to look for and what brands are better off with my budget?
also, i have no idea as to how subwoofers connect to HT, is it thru my receiver or does it interconnect with the speakers?! LOL!... u guys must really think im so innocent but yes i am new to subwoofers and i want to get one because i want some bass in my HT para complete..
please can someone tutor me.. a brief one cause thiis thread has way too much technical terms i can't quite catch up on..
I'll appreciate any help from the friendly pinoydvd members...
Hello, I own a DynQuest DQ-12 sub to go with my Yamaha RX-V630 receiver and Yamaha NS-7390 and NS-P60 center and surround speakers. I am not sure what the difference between the volume and dB settings in the sub are.. can anyone enlighten me on this so i can optimize my sub settings?
btw i don't have an SPL meter so i wouldn't know how to "equalize" it objectively. using my receiver's test tone generator isnt much help kasi i cant tell if the sound in the sub is equal to the sound generated in my speakers.
The DTS or US AUDIO brand of subs would fit into your budget. They're made by Dai-ichi and would be a good addition to your HT. Audition them at the Dai-ichi showrom at SM mega and if you like what ou hear you may want to buy from a shop in Raon St Quiapo selling these as they are cheaper there.
Mga Gurus,
Another newbie who needs help.
My antique integrated amp died a couple of weeks
ago. Now, I wanted to join the HT fever. I am using
BOSE AM5 on my current set-up and wanted to make use of them in my future HT. After reading briefly on the threads, this is what I have planned to start with.
AVR
I am scouting for AVR's and have narrowed my selections on:
1. ONKYO TX-SR500 or 501
2. Marantz SR4300
3. Denon 1603
Which of the above amp is a performer? I am into 50% music and 50% movies. I can only trust and rely on
your expert ears as I cannot audition them because I
am not from Manila. Papabili ko nalang to sa pinsan
ko dyan once I have decided.
SPEAKERS
1. Where can I use the AM5, for the mains or
surround?
2. What brands of speakers will I get to complete a
5.1 setup? I don't want to buy another BOSE because
of the price. WIll the likes of Wharfedale a match? Simple lang po, yet functional ang habol ko...as a start.
My budget for speakers is only around the Wharfe's
range.
3. Is there a big noticeable incompatibility if the
speakers are not of the same brand?
4. Have been eyeing on the US Audio512L sub. Reviews says it is too boomy on music. Will the overall setup be more boomy if it plays together with the AM5?
Please help, newbie talaga ako dito. Salamat nalang at
merong ganitong site na makukunan ng mga valuable
information.
More power to all pdvd'ers.
Regards,
GneW ;)
Mas pronouce yun sound especially the high frequency if you remove the cover when listening.. same with vocals.

hello, tanong po ulit...
I want to have a dedicated audio system, and reading through some forums. I might go for the ws tube preamp... since i dont want to hook it up with my receiver. what equipment do i still need in order for my pre amp to work?
thanks....
wow bilis, thanks.....would happen to know the price? what speakers would match this system?
isa pa pong tanong, how do you connect all this equipment? which goes where, like where does the cd player connected?
Thanks
boss philander (or anybody), question po:
i read through the different speaker threads na kinokompare nila ang iba't ibang models dahil yung iba mas malakas ang bass, or yung iba mas clear ang highs.
kapag may subwoofer ka ba mapapansin mo pa rin yung mga bass na nilalabas ng mga main speakers? 1 example kasi is the wharfdale 8.1 compared to 8.4. Sabi nila mas ok daw ang bass sa 8.4.... ang sa akin naman, e kung may sub naman, bakit kailangan maganda pa ang bass ng fronts?
dummy question lang po ito, hope somebody can share some intellect :)

Mga bossing, yung receiver ko ay my preout for Main,Center and Rear channel paano ko ba ito gagamitin to increase the power ng setup ko(RXV-800)?
TIA
bossing Philander ngayon ko lang kita sagot mo...paano ba yon sir yung output ng receiver ko halimbawa is 100 watts per channel (5 channels); tapos I add a power amplifier na rated 150 watts per channel (2 channels only) and connect my receiver's main/front magigi bang 100+150 yung front/main ko or 150 watts lang. ?
TIA
thanks sir philander...bali two sets of main speakers pala isang 150w at 100w kala ko kasi magiging 150+100 watts sa isang set ng speaker... ;D ;D ;D
What's the importance of bi-wiring the speakers? Do all speakers suport this?
1. What are the benefits of bi-wiring speakers? Would it make any diff if you didn't?
@. How does this happen?
I intend to buy the nad 304 being sold here in the buy n sell section. is it ok for starters like me?
I don't see any reason why not. It's a good brand.
I read some threads/topics with regard to continous power of certain receivers...
What does this mean?
I also know of one brand here that people are talking about is Harman Kardon (and its line of receivers e.g. AVR 130 and AVR 330) that provide continous power. Is there an advantage?
Can it drive most of the speakers out there ( 6 ohm and 8 ohm impedance) ?
What receivers do you know of aside from HK that provides continous power to all of the channels?
Can you list some of the receivers that don't provide you with that kind of power such as that of HK?

hi! im a newbie when it comes to this. Wanna build sana an entry level audio set-up. What components do i need? How much kaya budget? pwede na ba 30-35K? What kind of speakers? I have no idea talaga eh. Recommend naman kayo oh. :)
Im not really an audiophile, I dont have a trained ear nga when it comes to sound, just want to have a system in my room for music. Btw, maliit lang yung room, mga 12x12 feet.
Thanks guys, hope you can help me. ;D
thank for your replies. yung 30-35K (if thats enough) is for stereo setup lang. tama ba? not gonna watch movies w/ it, separate pa yung HT. thanks!
thanks archangel!
dami pala components. :o pero ok lang. but wala bang medyo minimalist ang dating?
hi newbie din ako.
gusto ko rin sana mag set ng audio system for movies in my room.
pwede po ba paunti-unti ang bili/dagdag ng speakers para sa receivers like, front speakers lang muna then saka na ang para sa rear.
... ano po ba ibig sabihin ng tube amp?

pwede po ba A/V ang receiver for listening cds?
Hi! I'm a real newbie here. Kung bibili po ba ako ng Dai-ichi na DTX kailangan ko pa po ba ng a/v/ receiver or amplifier. Ang DVD player ko kasi ay Promac 4808 at meron syang output sa likod na 5.1. Kung bibili ba ako ng speaker na 5.1 na Dai-ichi kailangan pa ba amps. Thanks

Am also not familiar with the RPomac model. How do you use your DVD player? How is it connected now?
mga tol, newbie din po.
pwede ko bang gamitin/ikabit ang speakers (2) ng compo (kenwood) sa tv (sharp with subs) para magkaroon ng semblance ng ht sound? kung pwede paano po ba ito? tnx
Mga Bossing...I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question pero post ko na rin.
Ano ba sir ang ibig sabihin nong 3 char. code sa label ng mga Cd's. Something to do yata with the way the CD was recorded pero di ko sigurado baka pwedeng paki post naman ang mga differences ng nga ibat ibang codes...

hello,
4. Is there a 5.1 speaker system that has a DTS decoder? If so, what brands and models are these and where can I get them? (I'm looking for a low-end only. ex. nextbase) :)
I know guys that my questions is redundant, only asked in different angles... but I don't know how to ask it the right and efficient way.
thanks in advance guys. :)
If you really want to experience the full capability of Dolby Digital and DTS decoded DVDs, you need to get at least an entry level of branded HT equipment. I was told that generic amps are not really good because it is only prologic. If the seller is saying that it is 5.1 channel, dont believe in them. It is only prologic which means that it can only produce 4 channel output.Bro,
Hope this will help you... :D
gee... this is a shameful question....
how can I check my PM? ;D
Bro,
I just wanna say na meron naman talagang generic na 5 channel talaga, try reading sa forum about ng Sakura amps, there are a couple of guys there that can attest to that. They've mentioned the Sakura AV-387/377. And meron ding Sakura na 5 channel amp talaga without any processors like ProLogic. These guys have these equiptment, so they kinda know. I also happen to own a Sakura too. And besides, pages plans to use his PS2 as his player, so he needs a digital amp. Out of the question ang generic amps with 5ch inputs. I only suggested the Kinyo because he mentioned that he's on a budget and this is the most inexpensive system I've seen that would be appropriate to use with his PS2. :)
Yes! I've seen it. my PS2 has an optical out...Question din bro, is there an RCA jack there that says Digital Out/Coaxial? If it does, you now have 2 options, you either choose to use the optical out, which means you'd have to buy an optical cable, around 300 pesos, or you could use the Coaxial digital out, with which you could just use an ordinary good quality RCA cable, this is, of course, less expensive. You then connect this to a decoder that you eventually would decide to buy. I also saw this Kinyo complete system once on the web. why not surf for it. Remember, ang Kinyo has a decoder, built-in amps, satellites and a sub na, so although, medyo lampas sya sa budget at 7K, wala ka nang kelangan pa idagdag. You can also view nga pala your PMs at the bottom of the main page.
what now? I guess I need to buy a jack or cable for it... afterwhich, is there an amp or a speaker that can receive so I can have a 5.1?
Guys
I just bought a JVC XV-N38SL DVD player.
I want to buy a 5.1 Speaker System, and from what I've read in this forum, I have to buy a separate receiver/decoder, kasi RCA jacks lang meron yung player ko.
My question is, is there a 5.1 surround speaker system na may onboard decoders? Para di na ko bumili ng receiver/decoder. Nanghihinayang rin akong i-dispatch ung player ko, since less than 2 months pa lang ito.
Thanks in advance.
none. there is no digital out coaxial, only optical.I haven't seen any DTS DVDs that are not DD encoded so far. So I don't think that will be your problem. And Kinyo also has models that can decode DTS. But, the major concern here, is if your PS2 can decode DTS. If your PS2 has the DTS logo, then it can. I'm sorry I'm not into gaming so I'm not really familiar with the PS2. But the fact is, if your player cannot decode a digital signal, even if your receiver can, it's no use. The player must be able to decode the signal itself. This is the case of my friend who purchased a xenon dvd player that can decode DD but not DTS, kahit na ikinabit na namin sa Yamaha DSP-AX430 using an optical cable, wala pa rin. Hope this helps.
that kinyo that you're suggesting has DD decoder right? but what about DTS formatted DVDs, will it be able to decode it too?
anyway, I'll be visiting that Raon are sometime this week. got to bring a friend though, am not familiar with the place. hopefully, I'll have good news.
thanks man for all the guidance. :)

If the dvd player can't decode the dts signal the receiver will be the one to decode it by using the digital connection. The setting of your friend's dvd player on the audio menu must be set to digital out to let the signal pass thru the coax/optical out of the dvd player.
Depends on your budget. Sky's the limit ba??
my dvd player is union, it has DD & DTS surround logos in the front. I am able to play DTS titles with it, with the 5 analog outs.
Does it mean that I dont need a decoder for dts?
Can i just use the famous Rongxin speakers for a better sound?
Hey Guys
Where can I buy the Logitech z-680? And what's the price range?
Ok na sana yung Yamaha Tss-1 or Tss-10, kaya lang 6 watts per channel lang pala yung sats.
Many thanks!
Villman.

Php 18999.00
Hi guys, pareho pala kami ng dilemma ni Galactus. :(
I'm using a Pioneer DV233 and RCA lang din ang audio nya. I was planning on getting a 5.1 HT.
Do you think it's better to get the Logitech Z-680 rather than buying a receiver and 5.1 speakers? 18,999 is a bit pricey for me.
Is a receiver the same with an amplifier? :) Dumaan kasi ako sa raon a while ago and I was eyeing for the Promac Pro5.1 speakers for 3,700. Ok kaya kung yan nalang bilhin ko and bili nlang ako ng receiver?
Medyo nalilito na kasi ako eh. Newbie kasi me sa HT setup. ;D
How much kaya ang Yamaha Tss1 and Yamaha Tss10?
thank's guys!
kaibigan, tanong lang po.. I tried making pindot pindot my DVD set-up and one time i saw his terms.. I just want to utilize my units capability kaya konting tulong lang po. O0
Ano po ibig sabihin ng SPDIF and VSS?
Whats center delay and rear delays are for?
How am i going to configure my audio system? ( ALL LARGE SPEAKERS, SMALL SPEAKERS OR MIXED SPEAKERS) I'm using DTX speakers.
What does bandpass mean in terms sa subwoofer?
TNX.......
Here are some areas where "calibration" is usually done in an HT set-up:
(1) Set all the 5 channels to the have identical volume levels. I think you also have to set the subwoofer about a few dbs higher than the other speakers, but this depends on the power of the sub as well. You either use an SPL meter in your listening position or just trust your ears.
(2) Set the delay time on the surround speakers relative to your listening position so that the sound from both arrives at your ears about the same time as the fronts. Your receiver manual should tell you how to do this. Some receivers can set the delay in terms of distance from the listening position (1 foot = 1 millisec), others in time.
(3) Set the bass management of the receiver in terms of crossover frequency you prefer. In some recievers, this is taken cared of by selecting either "small" or "large" for the fronts and surrounds. But this calibration is also used other than for HT purposes.
Mga bossing tanong lang po...
Yung RXV-800 receiver po ay my "direct processor" button and when I check the manual it says when "on" it bypass the bass, treble and ext.bass. My Cd player(RCD02) presently is connected via coax (digital) would it make a difference ba kung I connect my player to the receiver via the analog connection and switching the "direct processor" to on?
TIA
What is the use of tube buffer? Does it in any way affect the sounds of a certain amp? What about the rectifier? What it means if it is tube rectified or ss rectified? How it affect the sounds of an amp? Thanks :-X
Dear Guru's need help again...
I'm new to seperate audio system and here's my situation currently I'm eyeing RA01/RA02 for audio amps to pair it with my RCD02, but I have only 1 pair of main speaker which is presently connected to RXV800(w/5chn pre out) for HT...eto po yung mga tanong ko..
1) pwede po bang kunin ko yung main LR preout ng RXV800, tapos connect it to RA01/RA02 and connect main sprk to RA01/RA02 ?
2)pwede rin ho bang sa RXV800 yung volume control for both HT and audio setup(kasi mas mura yata yung RA01 w/remote compare to RA02 he..hee..he)?
3)Incase po na pwede ok lang ba yung ganoong setup for audio and HT ? or nabalewala lang yung pag add ng RA01/RA02 since connected parin sya sa RXV800?(RCD02 connected sa RA01/RA02)?
sirs,
i have a 5.1 sakura 387 amp and surplus amps from pier (sony 333esxII, sansui D607 and luxman LV-117). will it be okay if i use the sakura's rear channel out as input to any of these amps? will this cause damage to these surplus amps? pre-amp po ba ang magiging tawag nun sa sakura? does it matter to the amps if the inputs were already amplified? what if mas mataas naman yung input, e.g. 160wpc output, and the receiving amp is only capable of delivering only 90wpc, will there any damage to any of the components?
thanks
hi! im a newbie when it comes to this.
Thanks guys, hope you can help me. ;D
If you are capable of becoming emotionally involved with music, you are an audiophile. Your criteria for evaluating a sound system should simply be how closely it makes recordings sound like live music. This implies you know how live unamplified music sounds and that you can find well-made recordings of it for use as demonstration material.
Why use pristine recordings of acoustic instruments (including voices) playing in natural acoustic settings when that may not be what you typically listen to? If you just use your favorite CD of electrical instruments, there is no natural sound in the real world to serve as a basis for comparison. The same is true to a lesser extent of recordings of acoustic instruments made in dead studios with reverberation added afterward. If you use a poor fidelity recording of acoustic instruments, then your selected sound system will optimally compensate for that recording's faults, but equally color every other recording the same way. It will not do justice to newer, better fidelity recordings.
Mga sirs, i don't know much abt this HT stuff kaya i need to ask lame questions...
A relative recently gave me a 5.1 speaker system. Yung made in China lang. The brand is Telefunken and yung subwoofer nya is the amplifier n din. Ok lng b ang performance/sound ng mga ganitong systems? Personally ok lang naman sken and the directional sounds (surrounds, front and center) are ok. Pero I don't have anything to campare it with and I know na la binatbat ito sa mga branded HT systems. ;D Just wanted to know if the quality of these "generic" systems are ok enough or if I'm missing out on a lot of quality good audio. Tnx! :D
as long as YOU enjoy it - OK yan :)
di naman contest dito eh ;D
I didn't know Telefunken is now made in China. THis is a respected brand from Europe, if not mistaken. Like Grundig. Or is it different?
Hi, eric_draven, try a google search of the word "telefunken" and you'll get sites in German. ;D
Like this one:

Hey guys... some more dummy-newbie questions here:
1. pag sinabing ang av receiver ay 100 watts, ibig sabihin nun per channel 100 watts sya di ba? hindi 100watts total of all channels?
2. ano ba ang tamang impedance rating ng mga speakers? 8 ba or 6 or 4?
3. ano ang ibig sabihin ng Kevlar Cone? At bakit maganda ito (or maganda nga ba)?
thanks ice! This is in Makati I pressume?
quick question lang.... I think I'm getting the hang of this HT after reading some of the posts/FAQs here.
Q:
Pede ba yun setup na to? 2 floor standing 3 way speakers as front... then center channel, then 2 way bookshelf or satellite yun rear speakers. Tas, 5.1 Receiver will power the speakers, DVD player, then powered sub.
Kung floor standing, masmaganda pag separate 2 ch amps? then the receiver will power the center and rear speakers? pwede kaya to?
2. wharfedale 8.3 / 8.4 -- mejo confused lan ako kung ano mas maganda sa dalawa. kumbaga
what will make me buy more than the other and naturally, to other brands as well... i've heard
also na power hungry to eh, kayanin kaya?
Its not safe to use speaker A and B at the same time especially at high volumes. Just get the floorstander and satellites can be used for the rear. If you want more "ump" why not add a good subwoofer?
arrgh!!! here i am again... hirap talaga pag mejo newbie pa...
already set my eyes on Wharfedale 9.5 but saw a forumer selling his
Mordaunt Short 914 at a bargain price.
question is, if you were me, what will you choose?
alin kaya mas maganda dito? ???

Good day to all,
just wanna know whether the magnetic interference to the TV brought about by the close distance of an unshielded speaker to it is true even if the said speaker is not being used -- ::) salamat po!

bro Gaol, James tnks for ur inputs --- so once the discoloration or color bleading on the TV disappears as i move out the speaker or place something thick in between, (this is what im thinkin now, actually- ::)) ok na yun. ;)
thanks for your advises...
have already bought a floorstander... O0
another newbie question, do speaker cables/wire length
matter? i know that the longer will affect impedance. but hw
about the shorter lengths?
i was so excited that i didnt bother checking this.
i initially bought 4 meters ( maybe 12 gauge ??? ) of speakercables and got home
thinking 2 meters each for my "new" fronts :)
then i found that my speakers can be bi-wired so i thought making the cables 1 meter biwired
each.
so problem now, is this advisable? (having just 1 meter in length). or should i buy four 2 meters
cable wires? or is there really a minimum length for speaker wires?
Questions from a newbie (ME) Hehehe ;D: What do these acronyms stand for? OEM & VGA
What's the difference between VGA and DVI? Anybody can answer. Thanks. ;D
DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is available only for LCD, DLP or Plasma TVs. Although Samsung has released a new RPTV with VGA and DVI input. What excites me about DVI is that, with the new High Definition DVD players, it can upconvert our 480 video signals to 720 or 1080 (correct me if I am wrong) for a clearer video. What doesnt excite me is the prices of the TVs with DVI input ;D
Quoted from Mouldingo from Samsung DVD HD941 Thread:
DVI-D and HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) are almost the same. They are signal cables which route digital signals from your player or source to your monitor. DVI-D is prevelant in PC hardware. Mid and Hi-end video cards and newer LCD computer monitors have this. HDMI has audio, something DVI-D doesn't. Many newer HD TV have either one of them or both. Pioneer, NEC and Sony has HDMI while Hitachi and Samsung has DVI-D. Hitachi's latest 42" plasma has both. Samsung DVD-HD748 has DVI-D while DVD-HD948 has HDMI. HD948 includes an adapter cable so you can connect HDMI to a DVI-D Monitor. But there are some issues regarding use of the adapter. Pioneer DV-969AVi had HDMI only while Denon DVD player 2910 and 3910 have both outputs. HDMI and DVI-D are the only way you can view upscaled video, and may be the only way to watch HD-DVD or Blu-ray. You can only access Faroudja through your component video, it is a progressive program which improve your video signal to 480P.
I just found out that my rear back surround, a 120w manex 4-way bass reflex speaker system, has an impedance of 4 ohms. The RXV-450 manual says that all surrounds has to be 6 ohms.
I found this among the stuff my mom won from raffles, Sayang, they are pretty nice speakers pa naman. It has a directional mounting device that makes it good for rear surrounds. What if I use 2 of these in series? would it be worse for the AVR?
Stats on the box:
4" super bass subwoofer
2 1/4" stronium ferrite magnet midrange (Are these real or BOLA?)
1 3/4" dome super tweeter
1" super piezo tweeter
Freq response : 60-22,000 Hz
120w, 4 ohms
Pag walang choice I could use these 4 ohm speakers as Speaker B since the manual says this is OK.
If you use these speakers in series then okay sya, the amp will see it as an 8 Ohm load, but remember, series.
I think you cannot use two pairs of speakers if one of them has a 4 Ohm impedance. To my knowledge, Yamaha amps canm handle 4 Ohm loads at the front channels if, and only if, you use just one pair of speakers, not two. I think it's best you check again since the back of the amp says, speaker A or B: 4 Ohms, speaker A & B: 8 Ohms. So, the minimum impedance for attaching 2 pairs of speakers would be 8 Ohms on both pairs. ;)

Hi guys, ask ko lang my Kenwood AVR says 8ohm lang siya. I heard masisira raw yung amp pagumamit ng 6ohm na speaker. I like to buy Wharfedale Diamond 9 but 6ohm siya but in the brochure, it says its compatible to 8ohm AVR. So panu na? I am bit confused. Thx

Help please. I've already posted this in the sticky but nobody seemed to notice it so I decided to start a new one. Mods, feel free to delete if you deem necessary.
I have a Pioneer VS-600DVD mini compo with DTS with front and small surround speakers. Is it possible to make a 5.1 setup out of this? Can I just buy an affordable AV receiver (e.g. Konzert) and an additional center and sub? I'll still use the mini compo to play my DVDs/CDs. Pwede ba to? I'd appreciate your expert opinions. Thanks.
Lennon, anu-ano output ng pioneer na yan? optical? coaxial? 5.1?
Boss bumblebee, I have to double check when I get home. Pero as far as I remember (sana tama), the audio outputs are only optical and the regular RCA. Will that do? ???
if you have the optical out, you can get that konzert, provided of course, it has optical in.
hope that helps :)
you can use the konzert to power your speakers instead of the pioneer. matching speakers mean having the front left, right and center to be of the same brand and model. since you mentioned dts and optical out, i assume the pioneer can output raw dts signals for the konzert to process. as for the sub, you'll a need a powered one.
btw, how much are you willing to shell out? kc you might as well get another generic player w/ 5.1 outs and some generic powered 5.1 speakers if the budget is too tight.
Is it okay if I just buy a Konzert AVR and a Rongxin 5.1 speaker set to go along with my DVD Mini-Compo player?
if you do that, the konzert will just perform the processing of the signals. sayang ang amp section nito. and the powered rongxin will need 5.1 pre outs from the konzert, if ever the konzert has this.
powered speakers are usually used w/ dvd players w/ built in dd and dts processing. you can always use avrs w/ 5.1 outs pro overkill na ito ;D
so if you really want an avr, you'll need passive speakers (not powered).
and powered subs.
Okay. I think I'm finally getting it.
If I go the generic DVD player plus rongxin 5.1 speakers route, is there a way for me to use this audio setup for TV viewing, console gaming, and the like?
Thanks again.
you'll need an avr for 5.1 gaming. unless the powered speakers have built in decoders. the rongxin is intented for sources w/ 5.1 outs.
Last question (hopefully), are all generic 5.1 speaker sets powered?
Guys,
Is there a way to connect two DVD players to a common 5.1 Speaker system? The player won't be used at the same time (i.e. one will be used for DVDs, the other for listening to CDs, MP3s, WAV files).
Thanks in advance!
dude, AVRs usually have several inputs for multiple sources. just hook up your "video" dvd siguro to the digital input (the black one) then attach the "audio" dvd to one of the analog inputs (red & white)... you can then switch sources on the AVR controls
Is there a possible way to connect two players to a common 5.1 speaker system without having to use an AVR? Is there an adaptor, connector, jack, or anything that I can use so that the input on the 5.1 speaker system would come from both players? Thanks again!
I have to wonder why you want to play two DVD players simultanously connected to one set of 5.1 speakers without going through a selection switch that AVRs offer. They're powered speakers I suppose, right?
You could use Y cables for each input to the line-in termnals of the 5.1 speakers. You could either DIY or find one from electronic shops, Radio Shack or in ACA hardware.
mga bro, me newbie question ako..
yung previous receiver ko eh spring clip type yung connection na ginagamit para sa speaker wires. kung palitan ko na yung speaker ko at banana plug type yung speaker connections nya, me babaguhin pa ba ako? thanks
you can use bare wires for both ends.
hi! tanong ko lang po..lahat po ba ng receivers parepareho lang? wag nyong sama yung wattage. nagkakaiba lang ba sa mga features yun? pagdating naman sa sounds, nasa receiver pa ba yun or sa speakers na yun?

Mga bros, sir and guru's ,
I'm just curious, ito yung yung audio setup ko
RCD02(HDCD) CDP
RC03 Preamp
Quad 306(biamp) power amp
I'm using analog interconnect. Tanong ko sana alin ba ang may DAC CDP or the preamp ? Incase I got a 96/192 external DAC ? would it improve the sound of my setup ? would the external DAC makes the RCD02 HDCD decoder useless ?
TIA
yung CDP ang mayroong DAC. w/ an exteral DAC, transport na lang ang role nung RCD02.
Sir thanks sa reply, does it mean na bale wala ng yung HDCD ng RCD02 as if all CD's, HDCD or non HDCD when play will sound the same ? pasensya na sa tanong.
TIA
i don't know much about this, but if the external DAC can decode HDCD then you get to listen to the extra 4 bits of info.
sir yung RCD02 CDP can decode HDCD on its own w/out the X DAC pero yung X DAC hindi ata HDCD capable pero upsample to 24 bit at 192k. Panaano kaya ito...
TIA
X-DAC. v3 po ba? ;D from what i've read from MF's site, this is the finest DAC in the planet. HDCD is 20-bit. baka kayanin nung X-DAC :-\ best to audition na lang sir. and hopefully, we can get answers from the more knowledgable people here.
my room and bathroom is being renovated. ive always wanted a pip in music for my bathroom. is it possible to tap from the center speaker wire to another ceiling speaker? any adverse effects?
newbie here!
kunyari for a student budget meal ;D ;D i have a logitech x530 5.1 speaker set and i want it as a beginner ht setup, do i need to buy an AVR or this will be enough if i connect it to a generic dd/dts dvd player?

Hi dragonrower.
Tell your friend that in this hobby, it's the hobbyist's ears that decide. No need for professional installation etc. Besides, everything's plug and play. And w/ that amount, dapat nga libre na yung installation.

HUH? no need for professional installation? Bro hindi ito HTIB ;D Dragonrower if your friend can afford that kind stuff i suggest he gets it INSTALLED AND CALIBRATED by a PROFESSIONAL INSTALLER. TAWARAN lang nya kasi hindi porket mayaman eh kaya na isahan.
Guys just have a question,
Im using avery low tech na ht setup.
I used pioneer speakers from my pioneer compo.
100 watts iyung front 60 or 40 iyung center or surround.
Im using a nextbase dvd player and a promac amplifier.
How would I know if the output is multi channel or stereo lang na lumalabas sa 5 speakers?
Guys just have a question,
How would I know if the output is multi channel or stereo lang na lumalabas sa 5 speakers?
mga sirs, question ko lang po..bumilil kse po ako ng yamaha rxv457..tanong ko lang kung kaya nyang magpatunog ng floorstanders na speakers. bigay kayo ng brand and model. tyaka okay ba kung mataas yung sensitivity ng speakers mo? tapos pagdating sa sub anong okay na brand, yung mura lang...
tyaka pagdating sa mga wires na gagamitin mo, kailangan ba yung okay talga? anong guage ng wire ang kailangan?
ipod to a logitech z5300 or z5500 pc speakers.possible ba?how to connect the two?plug and play ba or do i need to buy cables pa?thanks...noob obviously po. ;D
Anybody who know how to compute my room size to sq.m.?
158 inches haba
134 inches lapad
138 inches taas
Another queastion is kung ilang sq.m. ba para masabi na ang size ng room is small, medium or large?
12 inches = 1 ft.
3 fts = 1 m
158 /12/3 = 4.39 m
134/12/3 = 3.72 m
you have around 16.33 sqm IMO i'd say a small room.
pag sinama mo ang height cube na yon.
158 * 2.54 / 100
IMO = in my opinion
IMHO = in my honest/humble opinion
So in the end...di ko na lang binibili... ;Dhahaha...lol...me too!! cellphone ko basta me text n call, ok na sya. pag me nakuha naman extra disposable income, compute kaagad....ilang dvd kaya yun? hehehe o btw, tinamaan kaba sir matz? ginawa ko na rin yun, nag KUDETA ako (bought gears without my then fiance's knowledge), nadali ako ;D ;D
Aha! kilala ko ata yan! adik yan adik! ;D ;D
eh yung SARS? yung HPO alam ko na eh... ang HPO(hold-purchase-order) daw ang panlaban sa SARS..ano ung SARS?
S-erious A-udio R-eplacement S-yndrome.
Ingat ka dito bro, contagious to. ;D
Now we know. hehehe. Ang masama neto, pag nahawaan ka ng SARS at walang magbibigay sayo ng HPO, patay ka. Buti nga kayo sir Matz, sir Munskie merong komocontrol sa inyo at nagbibigay ng HPO.. eh saken wala.. tsk.. dapat may mainvent na gamot sa SARS para sa mga taong walang access sa HPO
Mga dude...
Ano ba ibig sabihin ng entry level and descent speaker?
Entry level meaning beginner's gear. dun sa mga nagstart pa lang mag set up ng HT.
As for descent speakers...it depends on your receiver. But usually these are bookshelf speakers mga 75-100 watts and priced mga 3.5K-5 or 6K.
Panong depende sa receiver? BTW i have a hk235... ;D
Depende meaning if entry level ang receiver...they will have a hard time powering up floorstanders. Just as a high priced receiver is too powerful for a bookshelf speaker primarily used as mains. Thus a decent speaker ireally depends on what combination you use.
I have a Yammy so I have no experience with HK
you can easily spend 1.2m on your room but then you can spend as low as 300k to have a superb setup as long as the acoustic characteristics are done right. If you allow me, here are some suggestions:
projector; pt ae900
screen: dalite or draper 92 by 52(106 diagonal) 1.3 or less gain screen
B&k reference 50 II preamp processor(use balance connection)
B&k 2007 (7 channel ref amp), please check model number, I am not sure
Monitor audio GS series speakers of Revel Concerta series
cables and interconnects(lower end series from reputable manufacturers like Xlo, Mit , Transparent, etc
A good scaler DVDO and dvd player (oppo digital 971h(199 dollars) or denon 5910(3500 dollars)
A good acoustician for your room. demand a reverberation time of .4 to .6 seconds for the these freq. 125,250,500,1k,2k,and 4k. you should be able to verify the results with a reverberation meter. Have your projector color analyzed and have it set at d6500. Have the installers balance your Spl at 85dB(or 75dB depending on your reference material).
i've already asked sa audio visual driver and sa listening room..cguro un budget around nsa 500k bumaba na hehe..d pa kasama un mga carpets and seats...bbgay sa akin ng audio visual un quotation by wednesday..para may idea rin ako..

assuming i have your money and using your requirements...
60k for projtv
150k for dlp pj
Mga bro,
Ask ko lan kung pano ko ikakabit yung speaker wire ko from HK 235 to front speaker (Diamond 9.5)?
avr + (positive) HF+ or LF+
avr - (negative) HF- or LF-
TIA
Hi all,
I am new to HT, and just planning to set up my own.
5) What is an "active" bass?
6) Should the receiver have a higher power rating than the speakers? If my receiver is 95W, and my speakers are 100W -- ok lang ba?
Thanks!

If not what other components should I be buying or setting up for a Stereo sound listening?
Let's say I want to have a multi channel setup for movies and 5.1 encoded concerts but I also would like to listen to stereo music. Would it require 2 separate setups.
Example:
Setup 1
Multi Channel
DVD Player---->Harman Kardon 335 --->> MA Speakers / Mission Speakers/Wharfedale
Is the setup above good for Stereo sound already? If not what other components should I be buying or setting up for a Stereo sound listening?
Thanks for the inputs
Ayaw ko na kasi yung hassle of switching one amp to another, so my question will be..... OK lang ba to connect 2 amps to only one pair of speaker?\
Thanks :)
Use one of those Speaker A, B C... selector/switch boxes at ACE hardware. Just reverse the direction and connect your two amps to the speaker terminals and your lone speaker to the amp terminal. Instead of your amp selecting which speaker to use (for which this box is meant to be used), it will now be your speaker selecting which amp to use. Just don't ever switch both amps at the same time. ;D
If you're using toslink connection between your players to the receiver, using the same connection, there'd be no sonic difference between commercial digital players because all of them conform to the same s/pdif standard. But using the analog outs will yield subtle sonic differences becasue each player brand implements different DAC chips, op amps and analog filterning designs.
analog connection = CDP DAC
digital connection = AVR DAC
aside from the usual AV stores, check out the buy and sell section on this site. there are lots of good deals there. it's the BONUS season, people are getting rid of there gears to upgrade ;D
Hi guys.. I'm definitely an HT newbie. (and also a pinoy dvd newbie). I'm trying to setup (or buy an all-in-1 system). Budget is 20-25K lang. po. Really need help! and hoping for your suggestions. thanks! :)
Hi please enlighten me.
Does all big screen television capable of processing 1080i, 720p, 720i signals? if my tv is atleast 32inch but without hdmi input can i benefit from a hd signals?
Kailangan ba yung player at yung tv ko can output and accept 1080i, 720p, 720i? or pwedeng yung player lang ang mag labas ng hd signal?
What is the difference betweed RGB and component (Y, Pb, Pr)? Di ba pareho lang ng cable ang ginagamit dito?

one question: pareho lang ba ang magiging out put ng digital connection (optical or coax) at 6.1 or 7.1 analog direct in sa AVR?
Ibig ko pong sabihin ay ganito:
dvd player ko connected sa optical in ng avr = dolby digital or dts
dvd player 5.1output connected sa 6channel direct ng avr = din ba sa dolby digital or dts? assuming may built in dolby and dts decoder yung dvd player ko.
why I asked this: namamahalan na kase ako sa optic cable at coax cable. pero madami akong stock ng ordinary rca cable yung mga free sa dvd player. ;D may extra kase akong player pareho ko silang ginagamit.
Good day!
6. HF=High freq (tweeters), LF=Low freq (mids/low). You can route Speaker A to HF and Speaker B to LF
Please refer to your manual first and disconnect the jumper before doing this.
Hope this helps
3. Tidying up the wires is good. Just make sure that it is looped and you dont fold it at the ends to damage it. Also, avoid joining signal cables (RCA.Component, etc) with power cables to prevent unwanted noise that may go into the signal path
1. what is the use of 2 sets of front speakers? Di ba eto yung speaker A (fronts, center, rears) and B(fronts only)? Can you use them together? or are you supposed to allocate one set for one use (like HT) and the other set for another purpose (like music)?
5. how do you set the speakers to 'large' or 'small'? i've been reading the manual and i can't seem to find what button to press?
Good advice but let me add a detail: It's best to have your AV cables completely separate from your power cables because the power cables may cause noise. However, this is often not completely possible. If the AV and power cables should cross each other, make sure that they do so at a 90 degree angle. Never locate them in parrallel.
Question, are speaker wires "power cables" or "signal cables"?
2.) I used to have an Onkyo 494 like yours. It doesnt have speakers settings for large or small, instead its on the subwoofer settings. Setting 1 for giving all the LF to the sub, setting 2 for half LF to fronts & half to the sub, setting 3 for all LF to the fronts (I think).
may budget na ako but nalilito kung anong brand and set-up ang gusto ko, before na puro plano alam ko kung ano ng brand ang gusto ko but now na may budget na and malapit na ako bumili, bigla-bilglang nalilito na ako. yung room size is 12ft(long) by 9ft(wide), ano ba magandang display para sa maliit na room, projector(benq w100) or lcd(samasung or sony)? wharfedale yung unang choice ko, mission yung pangalawa, parehong bookshelf. sa surround ano magandang brand? sa center speaker? sa sub? ang receiver ko pala is sansui na 5.1. dapat din ba na id go for hd or yung 1080p stuff?for small room, use lcd, get all mission speakers for front/surround/center, velodyne sub, your receiver should have hdmi as well as your source(dvd player). enjoy dude!
wala yata hdmi yung sansui receiver ko but for now siguro gamitin ko muna ito then upgrdae na lang sa sunod. salamat sa mga reply. dagdag pa kayo ng mga input pls?
newbie question lang...kasi im planning to set up my HT palang, but i usually watch downloaded movies ung mga avi file na 700mb lang and currently using an old htib.If i set up a new ht(avr, speakers, sub etc.) meron ba diff sa sound? o same lang?salamat po ;D
im gonna get the onkyo 604 kasi and ung mga avi file na download ko is 128/kbps mp3 lang...should i expect improvement?i can download files din naman w/c is ac3 encoded. which one is better?
hi, im new here and i have some questions about Ht :) im not really new to Ht as my dad is also into the stuff. anyway, we have Sony Bravia klv-32s310a. Based upon the specs, it is 1080p capable but only has a display resolution of 1366 x 768. does this mean that it will downscale any 1080i or 1080p hd movies i play down to 1366 x 768? or to 720p or 720i?
also, my dad just bought a new tv rack wherein our center channel speaker cant fit. so the options would be to put it on the floor directly in front of the rack , but as much as possible i want the setup to be as clean looking as possible. another option would be stand it vertically beside the tv. or to simple remove it.
is standing it on the side greatly affect the sound? we do have another, smaller pioneer center speaker that i might opt to use instead of the one we are using now and put it in front of the tv. il try to provide pictures of the setup soon. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks! :)
- jb
thanks for the reply. im afraid putting the center speaker above the tv wont be possible because there are french windows behind it. the smaller pioneer center speaker however can fit in the rack exactly below the tv. will there be issues on mixing and matching the speakers? especially if the others are not pioneer?
thanks again! :)
- jb
how do i get the sound of my TV to come out of my HT-set up, instead of the TV speakers? i know, i know, no TV channel provides stereo sound, or anything close to it ;D i just want to know how it works.
Hi!For a downloaded TV show? use you TV speakers instead of using headphones. But for Movies a headphone or HT in a box will work fine.
Just bought a plasma tv and need advises/suggestions/recommendations on the easiest and least expensive setup on how to watch downloaded tv shows from my computer.
I live in a condo unit and plasma TV is in the master bedroom while computer is outside the room.
Also, any recommendations on a reasonable priced wireless headphone that has volume control? This would use basically for watching TV.
Thanks in advance.
sir bale existing na yong 40" na lcd eh. nasa bedroom sya ngayon and ililipat sa living room/HT ;D .
for all around nga po. tv/movie/gaming.
plan ko lang kumuha ng projector to be used for movies. bale existing LCD sa likod tapos pull down screen na lang kung pj na. don´t get me wrong mga sir, though mali nga ata pag ka sulat ko. malaki po ang 50" na plasma nga lang maliit pa din sya compared sa whole wall na 205cmX130cm. ibig ko pong sabihin ay kahit 50" na ang ikabit malaki pa ding ang ma***rang sides sa paligid.
ok po kaya yong 50"plasma from samsung, if i go for 50" plasma ito po kasi pinagpipilian namin ni mrs.
ang hirap pala sir nitong bagong hobby ko. hirap mag decide. i actually still have a jvc tv(tube) makapal masyado pero flat screen nya.yon yong nasa salas dati kaso ang laki sobra walang mapapaglagyan sa bedroom except kung sa pasamano ng bintana. mas gusto ko actually yong lcd tapos may projector pa din sa salas. haay nalilito na ako. asking for opinion kasi para di ako magkamali ng decision. malaking pera din kasi ito. pero is 40" already ok. laki kasi talaga nong wall na paglalagyan eh. im also thinking of putting dvd holders na lang sa both sides ng lcd to make it look fuller. ok kaya yon or makaka distract ba yon habang na nonood na ng tv.
here is more or less how it will look like
(http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o97/e2icroyc/Slide1-1.jpg)
this with comparison 2 50"
ito naman with dvd holder sa tabi ng 40"
is it practical or is it worth to buy the plasma?
thank you sir iiinas, looks like we will go for the PJ screen. we decided to mount the 40"lcd in the living room already and decided not to buy the 50" plasma. my bad, the 40 incher was not that small after all. iba pala pag naka kabit na. i will go to an av store to audition a good PJ and probably a 32"lcd for the bedroom.
salamat sa input sir iiinas, malaking tulong po.
i´ll post my DIY HT sa HT gallery.
setting-up my first home entertainment system: dedicated AVR(?) vs pc
Hi. Also a newbie. I have questions about DTS, Dolby etc. I have read wikipedia and stuff but I can't seem to grasp it. My question is, if the receiver is lets say DTS something, even if the source is a 3.5mm jack coming from my computer, it can reproduce a theater like sound? thanks.
dts and dolby digital are multi channel digital sound, these are usually available/encoded on movie disc/file. from a player (dvd/bluray/media) for you to be able to enjoy these digital sounds (dolby and dts) your player should have a digital output jack (hdmi, optical or coax) if you dont have these jacks then you cant enjoy these formats. as for playing in a computer, as long as you have a file encoded with either dts and dolby, you should buy an optical cable which have an adapter which can be use for a 3.5mm audio jack, insert that to your computer, connect the other end of the optical cable to your receiver, then sound should come out.
remember, if the file/disc is not encoded with either dolby or dts, even if your receiver can decode the formats, it wont play these sound formats. :)

i think i get it... pa-verify... ;D
so, if 2.1 pa lang setup ko, from the source, select ko muna stereo out. pag nakumpleto ko na surround (and center), that's when i can select those 5.1 audio tracks, right?
so, pano yung mga files (mkvs for example) na isa lang ang audio track (na 5.1 format), can the receiver do the down-mixing? (eto na ata yung sinabi ni boss av_phile1, hindi ko lang naintindihan, ahehe...)
Unfortunately, walang choice for 3.1. You can set the receiver to 5.1 and just have a 3.1 speaker set-up but you won't hear the rear channel information. If I were you, I'll get the rear speakers first since you can always have a phantom center mode. Those rear channel are what makes the enveloping surround sound work if correctly placed.
There are many DVD titles with sound tracks that are inherently weak to allow for the encoding of much stronger signals during the moments that require them like explosions. But having said that, you can do the following:
First off, are you using a BD or DVD player? How are they connected? If you are connected via multichannel analog, check if your player has an output level control physically or on the menu and maximize it. I would suggest you use the digital connection SPDIF/Toslink so you can bypass the player's analog circuits.
Check your speaker connection. Are the speaker polarities observed?. A perception of weak volume is common if polarities are reversed in some speakers.
Disconnect all interconnects and just listen with the FM tuner in stereo mode, Dolby prologic and multichannel stereo mode to ensure all amps are fine, Are they still weak?
This is an extremely newbie question but please indulge. :D Currently my LN37B530 only plays through the built-in speakers in TV mode. How do I hook it up to the HT-Z220? Through a left-right audio cable or through some other means? I'd like to utilize the speaker set-up even for TV viewing. Thanks.
i will. sobra gulo pa e. will be transferring to that room e. hassle part of the room is that puro cabinet syaor make an sketch with dimension of your room and where is the sofa and monitor
just got my new LCD from SnS..
the problem is due to limited funds, nagiisip ako kung pwede na paisa isa lang muna ang bibilhin ko na hardware. since i had my LCD TV, is it ok to buy next a DVD Player? then sunod ang 5.1 speakers?
Would it be ok to have these:
Yamaha RX-V467
2 pairs of Polk TSi 200s (as front left, front right, surround left and surround right)
Polk CS10 (center)
Mirage S8 sub
for a small room HT setup?
heres a question:
I already have decent sub. My rooms about 4x4.5meters big.
Should i go floorstanders or bookshelves if i mostly watch movies?
Depends on your budget bro and the receiver you'll use to drive the speakers.
(",)
If it's not a concern, then go for floorstanders.
I have a 3x3.5 space with RTi A3's on an Onkyo 509.
My space is filled at 85% volume.
Enough to silence the noise cOming from the pool area of our condo when there are parties.
I've also tried a T-amp with the RTi A3's and I have solid sound at 50-60% volume.
I think that when We move to a bigger place, I can simply get a bigger AVR and still maximize my speakers.
HTH!
heres a question:why not go visit a audio video store and demo a bookshelf + sub and a floorstander +sub.then make a decision if a bookshelf + sub is good enough for you

Floorstanders do not necessarily out perform bookshelves. This is made all the more true since you have a "decent" sub.
I suggest you go to avshop and ask them to let you listen to various fronts. Honestly speaking, for me at least, the RTi A3s give the other floorstanders I heard that are even twice their cost close competition, very close.

a total newbie sa speakers mga bossing. I just want an advice sa decent set-up, for audio listening lang. room is around 10sqm lang. wala pa talaga akong gamit (speaker, amp, player) kasi sobrang newbie lang talaga ako sa speakers. plan ko po is PC ang source. i also have a wide range of music preference (rock, jazz, house, etc.) so I'm not sure if there's a speaker that could cover all of them. pero majority naman ng music ko is rock (incubus, deftones, up dharma down, taken by cars, foo fighters, etc.). budget nga pala is 10k-15k and might push to 20k if ever. highly appreciate ko po help niyo. thanks!
i will upgrade my receiver from pioneer vsx-d811s to HK AVR 155....
baka lang may gustong bumili nitong pioneer ko!
salamat.
question lang mga sir re bi wiring..is there really a difference between these two setups?Yes, on the other set-up you need a new set of Speaker Cable. Just kidding, some speakers claimed when they use the stock shorting bar (this is the connection on the Mid and high binding post) they find the highs too bright and when they use separate speaker cable then there is an improvement.
and
(http://www.brilliancehifi.co.uk/images/how-to-bi-wire-speakers-2.gif)
based on the above pics will there really be a difference or let's say an improvement if you bi-wire or just plainly using the supplied bridge/link of the speakers? di ko kasi maintindihan ang logic eh kasi on both setups iisa lang naman ang source sa ampli eh..thanks!
Sirs,
My first time to invest an av receiver and speaker.
Plan to purchase: Onkyo 818 av rvr adn Polk Audio RTi A5
I would like to know if it is compatible.
Please advise what to add like subwoofer, cables, avr.
My plans is to connect my xbox360 to Onkyo 818.
Hello gurus! Newbie here. My dad and I plan to set up a home theater system in our A/V Room. It's our first time to do such set up. Our budget for the set up is 200k including the TV. We are changing our old Samsung Bordeaux 40" LCD TV with a Samsung 46" Full HD LED TV. A/V receiver would be Onkyo. Our HT set up would be for TV viewing, DVD/Blu-Ray viewing, and PS3 gaming.
I'm currently looking at Pioneer, B&W, and Bose for our speakers and subwoofer. What are your suggestions for good alternatives?

Since you have your own AV room, i'd keep the 40" for TV viewing and just add a projector system. Nothing beats big screen for me especially inside a dedicated room. However, if you are very particular with the PQ, then a more expensive PJ should also be considered. We are changing the TV na because we want to get the more energy efficient LED TV. Tried watching a blu-ray movie with Samsung's UA46EH5000R a few weeks before, PQ was above average. Pwede na sa amin. Siguro if we have the budget for a good PJ, then we'll buy one.
Then sunod na ang mga audio 5.1 to 9.2 system.

Added another brand to our list. Polk Audio. I think this is the set up we will be getting:
TV: Samsung UA46EH5000R Full HD LED
A/V Receiver: Onkyo TX-NR609
Front Loudspeakers: Polk Audio RTiA7
Rear Loudspeakers: Bowers & Wilkins CM9
Center Speaker: Polk Audio CS20
Subwoofer: Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 or Pioneer TODOROKI S-RS3SW
Any suggestions for good surround speakers?

Bro I suggest getting a slightly bigger display. A 46" TV upgrade from 40" doesn't really have a significant difference. Try considering 50-55" display...Can't go the 55" route because of the TV cabinet that my mom bought and installed at the A/V Room. It can't fit TVs that are larger than 46"s
As for the speakers try looking into these brands aside from B&W and Polk:
1. Infinity Primus
2. Goldenear 3D Array + Supersat 3
3. Aaudio Genesis Line - gawang Pinoy at dekalidad ;)
4. Paradigm Monitor series
5. PSB Alpha series
As for the subwoofer audition mo SVS PB1000 and SB1000...
I think your 200K would be ok for a 5.1 set up. Or you could settle first with a 3.1 set up and get a better AV-Receiver, front left, right and center speaker then save a little for the matched surrounds.
@Timithekid
Thanks sa response. Wil the video signal just pass through the receiver then go to the TV, or is there a technology in the receiver that limits the type of video quality that can pass through it (1080, 720, etc)?
Hi Guys, im very new here obviously.
Pls, need help on setting up a basic HT. i was planning to buy an htib for my new LED as an upgrade to my basic dvd w/no HD capablities, but decided to purchase a BR player instead and later a pair of bookshelves spkrs and a center speaker. i dont have a sub and surround yet but my next step would be to purchase an av reciever. now i didnt have the slightest idea it would be this hard and expensive to set up an HT via a reciever, if i knew i would have simply settle w/ any HTIB. so now my question is do i really need an AV reciever to have a 5.1 setup for my blue ray that only has an hdmi and a set of RCA out or is there an alternate way to have a cheaper ampli for a 5.1 set up to connect to my BR player that again is connected to my LED via hdmi??? Thanks in advance!!
what is your budget for a receiver? your set up does not need to be 5.1 in an instant, start with a 2.1 (Left,Right and a sub) then slowly build.
Thanks for the reply! Besides a simple htib, i also considered buying an an active studio monitors at first since i really dont have any knowledge about amps. But i decided to buy a blue ray first then i bought a pair of 100w speakers a couple of weeks ago thinking it was cheaper. i was only planning to hook it up later to an active sub w/c i thought was possible. then i found out after reading tons of info online that i might still end up needing an amplifier or an av reciever for my set up w/c really wasnt part of my budget in the first place. Now, I guess i really dont have much of a choice but to stretch my budget, although i dont think i can afford to spend more than 10k right now just for an avr alone. Any suggestions pls??? thanks!
Thanks guys in advance, your reply is highly appreciated.
^
Well noted and thanks for the sharing.
I might as well try that, ask for their suggestion and will audition it one by one :)
But for the brand, for you what is the recommended for each parts? (i.e. Jamo Speakers, Pioneer for the amplifier etc.)
hindi mo ipapatong sa LED tv mo sir kailangan lagyan mo ng bracket na pagpapatungan para mailagay mo sa ibabaw ng tv. Kung mataas tilt mo ng konti pababa or else pwede din bili ka ng dedicated stand for your center speaker. ^-^
speakers would be too close, fine for a desktop setup but would tend to sound more "mono" as you listen farther.
better if you can simulate your planned setup using your existing gears
question mga idol, noob pagdating sa HT. I bought:
Pioneer VSX 523 K
Polk Audio PSW 110
Polk Audio TSI 100
Hindi ko alam kung maayos yung combination ko, kasi di ko inaudition, pero parang bitin yung fronts ko, so Im planning to add another bookshelf for fronts? Any advise naman po sana. Thanks
ok rin ba ang BS na gamiting surround? or mas ok parin yung pang surround speaker talaga? wharfedale sana kunin ko kasi mura lang, pansamantala lang sana, habang nagiipon ng FS ng Dali para yung fron ko gawing ko surround in the future. ^-^
i have DALI fronts and center and Denon Reciever.
I've got a subwoofer question.
Recently got a Denon 1713 and did the Audyssey set up. Based on the instructions, I had to lower the volume to less than 50% because I was getting -12dB. After finally getting an acceptable level, what do I do next - do I turn the volume back up to 50%? Or will it be controlled by the sound level I set for the receiver?
I've got a subwoofer question. You mentioned acceptable level, I suggest you leave it as is for a few hours of use to get a "feel" the Audyssey calibration. If you still think that the sub level is too low you can increase it by a few dB via the receiver. Easy lang sa pag-adjust ng gain, baka 'di makaya ng sub mo. Best not to change the gain on the sub itself if Audyssey had already set the sub level to within +/- 3dB.

Gurus, I just recently purchased a subwoofer for my HT. I'm finally now at 2.1 set-up (Yey!) after more than a year on just 2.0 previously. Tumagal din naman ako on that set-up kasi for me ok pa naman na walang sub. And syempre antay antay talaga sa MP for a great deal on subs. Now my question is, would adding a center speaker improve the HT considerably? as of now kasi di pa ko pede sa surrounds, no space pa talaga. So, should I go for the 3.1 (tama ba?) or just leave it sa 2.1 muna?
Now my question is, would adding a center speaker improve the HT considerably?dapat voice matched ang center sa fronts for the improvement to be considerable. IF you can get a good center image from just your fronts AND you have a narrow listening area you can do away without a center. in my experience pangit pa ang overall sound pag di match ang center sa fronts.
Question:Even the owner's manual will tell you so. You may burn your amp with too much current when playing at high output levels if you connect your 6 ohm speakers to the 8 ohm tap.
My Cayin A55TP has outputs for 8ohm speakers and 4ohm speakers.
6 ohms ang speakers ko na ikakabit. San ko sya ilalagay? The previous owner told me sa 4ohms ko ikabit. Bakit sa 4ohms and not sa 8ohms?
Thanks in advance!
Hello mga brader, I'm interested on setting up an HT but I have no idea on how much would it cost to build a decent HT set up? A shop here in China offered me this set-up for 60k pesos.

is this set up a good start? is the price a good buy? if ever i bite the offer, what else do i need to complete the set-up? TIA
Hi guys, I'm just a newbie and going to setup my ht for the first time and going to buy the fronts first due to a limited budget. I would like to ask for your help what speakers are better wharfedale 10.7 or dali zensor 7? What avr should match them that has a bluetooth bec. I would like to play the music through my smartphone. The speakers will be used 60% for music and 40% for movies. I really love to listen to music with clarity and detail. My budget is 18k to 30k for the speakers and 20-25k for the avr. Would you also please let me know where I can find any dealers for dali and wharfs? And if it is not too much to ask, would you also please let me know any Manila dealer that you know who can provide the best price? Thank you very much in advance for your help! Looking forward to hear from you! God bless!
