Nice set up sir.
Very elegant look ;)
Congrats and welcome to the gallery... :)

Thanks bro, courtesy of my wife yung "ambiance". I told her where I wanted to put the TV and she did the rest.
Actually, I was just at your thread. Wow, RTi ... bro Courage will have the similar (or same) soon ... I'll follow suite soon. I total agree with your choices.

Nice setup bro..Good to see the wharfs again, and well taken care of.. What are those thin floorstanders? From HTIB?

Yup those are from my old HTIB setup. The wife, our kids and I had an informal impromptu party last night till around 11pm ... of course dance music blaring on the Wharfs. Thanks again bro.

Don't know about "good" but I've been out of that too ... been really busy at work, and it looks like I'm going to get busier ... hay. Now I've got a good reason to power up the table saw and planer. Honestly, I've not been in my shop for months! Good thing, I've got someone oiling everything.
I suspected you'd be here from your projects.
-
You make boats and Furnitures? WOW
"Meaningful" should have been "meaningless" ... almost bedtime :)
Yeah bro, "jack of all trades, master of nothing!" best describes me ... well almost. These aren't big boat. Checkout www.pinoyboats.org if boats interest you. I've a "free sailboat ride" thread.

Good night guys ... have an important meeting tomorrow
By the way Timber, for a moment there, it was a choice between a Makita TS or an AVR setup ... as you can see the AVR won :).

-
Oo nga... :)
Sir lncc63 sorry po sa OT ha... :)
-
No problem bro. What's graceland?
Not really sure if it would be considered an upgrade but I decided to add a Bluray player because Sharepoint (http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,130935.0.html) is very near our place. If I can consider this an upgrade then that would be No. 3.
-
Brader,
Congrats on your speaker upgrades... Grabe sir ang SARS mo sobrang bilis....Balitaan mo ako sir pag nakakuha ka na nang A7... Makapasyal sa inyo at makapakinig :)

yup surely a bluray player is indeed an upgrade ;) congrats! if you go to Graceland then probably you will immediately have a 4th upgrade ;) most of those who visited this place ended up bringing home something new ;D mabait at madali lang kausap yung nakatira dun si Sir Mike :)

Actually, I just realized that I'm already at upgrade 3. Upgrade 1 was with the Denon 3802. Upgrade 2 happened a few days later when Sir Courage hooked me up with Sir Nogie and I got the Pioneer. But never mind, lets still call the Bluray upgrade 3.
Ok I'm at UPGRADE 3 then. Got the Sony BDP-S370 Bluray Player last night from sir mdelro and gave it a test run on our one and only Bluray disk - Transformers ... no problems ... well as far the unit is concerned. I do have a problem of where in my makeshift setup I'm going to put it. the lower shelves are too narrow and I don't want to put it on top of the receiver of course, also it is not deep enough to put the under the receiver. This will change when I get around to building a decent stand. I've also run out of A/V inputs on the Pioneer but I've pretty much made up my mind to connect the HTPC directly to the TV so it can also be used while listening to music.
Failed to mention that I'm also happy about having gotten the BD player because now I can also play our collection of DVDs from the U.S. and Japan. Our Panasonic HTIB could not because it is region locked to Asia. Now I can free up some space on the XTreamers.
-
Couldn't find where I should post this so I'll just share it here.
Without changing any of the wiring on my 7.1 setup, I put the AVR into Bi-amp mode. I've Wharf 10DFS for the surround back speakers. Played some classical music at medium volume and things seemed ok. I tried because I'm wondering if I can drive my extra pair of Wharf 8.3 with the surround back channels. Any thoughts?
I read somewhere that an AVR does not implement any internal crossover network when running in bi-amp mode, meaning the exact same signal is delivered to the surround back output terminals.
With a speaker switch the one in avshop, it would then be possible to switch from the normal 7.1 setup to the 5.1 setup but with four front speakers each with a dedicated channel.
Not really sure it would sound good especially with different kinds of speakers up front. Its just a shame to be using a perfectly good set of 8.3s as stands for the PA A3s.
-
Downgrade-upgrade!
Downgrade because I removed the surround back speakers so I'm back to 5.1. I plan to bi-amp the front but haven't gotten around to it. Actually, I sold the Wharfedale 8.1 surround speakers and am now using the 9DFS speakers as the surround which were previously the surround back speakers.
Upgrade because I replaced my Whafedale 9cm center with a Polk Audio RTi A6 :) (UPGRADE 4). I've also switch the AVR from 6 ohms to 8 ohms since now all my main speakers are 8 ohms.
I think I have a firm buyer for the HTIB so most likely I'll be upgrading the subwoofer next week. Actually, my plan was only to buy another USAudio 508. This would not improve the lower frequency reach but it surely get more power output. This evening however I had a chance to audition several subwoofers and I think I'll just replace the USAudio with a new more powerful subwoofer. The reputation of the SVS or Velodyne would make it a prime candidate but I'm saving my limited resources for an A9 set. Among those I auditioned, I'm leaning towards the Klipsch SW450 because it has a the kind of sound I like and won't threaten my effort for the A9.

Congrats on your A6 brader... Ang ganda at ang laki diba??? Pics naman dyan brader...

Yup it is quite big. Haven't had time yet to really sit down though and tune the setup. Pictures will have to till I can make the speaker stands. For the speakers are just on the rug.
Well UPGRADE 5 happened this evening, bought a Polk Audio DSW660. An SVS was a strong contender but its price and its not being a Polk knocked it out of the race. Actually, I was partial to Klipsch Sw450. Its sound I liked and the price was well within my budget. My choice started to change when a bro I met at AVshop strongly recommended the Polk. After a study of the specs and the prices, though quite a stretch over my budget, I decided to get it. Polk DWS660: 500w RMS, 12", 20Hz-160Hz.
I was actually contemplating to upgrade my AVR in lieu of this subwoofer upgrade. This idea came anticipating the need for a beefier AVR than the Pioneer 1019 if and when the A9 upgrade materializes. Pursuing this idea would be a long process necessitating I first sell my AVR and suffer some quite time so we decided against it.
Again Brader Courage was great sounding board in the making of this upgrade.
Next upgrade ... A9! A9! A9!

I drool on that sub brader, everytime i go there talagang pinupuntahan ko sa sulok yang sub na yan at hinihimas ko he he he.. Ang ganda pa nyan, pwedeng down firing pwedeng front... Pwede ring wireless saan ka pa di ba.... Niceeeee
-
Thanks Bro. For me it was the still bearable best value proposition. As Brader Courgae noted, I also like the idea that it can be down firing or front firing. IMHO, it has the best specs among the below P30k subs. The strong recommendation from the bass-crazy bro I met was also a big factor.
Can't wait to rock our house on Sunday.
Is there such a thing as a receiver without the amplifiers? The idea of having tube amps, or even monoblocks, keeps popping up but it would be an unbearable waste of money to use an AVR with preouts.

Preamp na ata tawag dun brader..
-
Maybe my idea of what a preamp is is too antiquated. During my time, a preamp was for the record player and microphone. Do modern preamps have decoders and all the input processing we see in receivers?
-

Im not sure but if in case wala then you will need a Surround processor for that. There are separate surround processors from different brands. So when people said they are going to "Separates" then may Power amp ka, Preamp, processor, tuner, player. AVR kasi parang all in one without the player or source. Ang all in one are those HTIB's. Yung iba naman na talagang matitindi na eh may kanya kanyang power amp per speakers or para mas mura yung multi channel power amp.
-

There are pre amp processors but are usually quite pricey. :) thanks for the purchases. :)
-
Actually its I who should be thankful. I look forward to the next opportunity, honestly.
I guess then a receiver with pre-outs is a better option then. One could run the fronts with external amps for music and use the other channels for the other channels when in HT mode.
-
Another alternative is to use a speaker switch for the fronts and have a separate set of electronics for music: CDP + [Integrated Amp | Preamp + Power Amp].
I'm 50/50 between music and movies which is why I want a set of A9s which will be the next upgrade.

Great choice, sir. The A9s will deliver the full audible spectrum if you have their rear powerports close to the back wall. :) You can safely set them to Large in this config, as long as you have sufficient headroom.
I'm a bit biased towards the dedicated audio system for music purposes (either using a speaker switch or dedicated speakers), but there are also great sounding HT systems that do well with music (mostly higher-end AVRs and separates). :)
-
Glad you agree bro. Yes, the A9s be against the wall but what does "sufficient headroom" mean?

Its a Yamaha RX-V3800! Yahoo! Already paid for it but it won't be here till next month.
Why upgrade 7 and not 6? Upgrade 6 was a Samsung SH-B123L Bluray Combo Drive. It took some doing but I found one, the last one according to the store, at the PC Express branch along Shaw Blvd. Works like a charm in our HTPC.
-
wow nice receiver! congrats!
-
wow nice receiver! congrats!
Thanks Bro. I think it is the best compromise for me. The V1900 caught my eye at first but I'd rather spend money on things that I can use ... our TV isn't 3D capable anyway and I'm too impaired for 3D :D.
Letting go of the Pioneer VSX-1019 is going to be difficult. The only reason I upgraded is that I don't want to "short change" the A9s I'll soon get. "Its all about matching the speakers and the AVR" as many bros have said.
The next big problem is tuning our sala so it allows the "yammy" and Polks to SING ... and not cause our neighbors to impeach my wife who was just reelected to her 3rd term as subdivision president :D. Suggestions would be MOST welcome.

in my experience a good sound coming from a good set-up do not irritate neighbors, what is irritating is a loud sound coming from a set-up that sounds like a transistor radio :)
it will also help if you put a thicker curtain, matutuwa pa si wifey kapag ginawa mo ito ;)

Bro, would say the V3800 fits the bill? Among the mainstream AVRs, my impression is that the V3800 will do well with music.
-
Just a note to myself mostly.
A PS3 can play an SACD?
Found the answer HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD). 3rd generation PS3s and older no longer have the SACD playback capability.
The good news is the Bluray player I have, a Sony BDP-S370, does and it can be set to output DSD (Direct Stream Digital). So now I have to find a SACD.

SACDs can be bought from Fully Booked High Street. Buy them now habang medyo madami pa. I don't think they're still restocking (they used to have a lot more). Yung BDs nila and DVD-As halos wala na.

I've yet to hear them with the A9s, but I suppose that they would do. These are fairly easy-to-drive speakers afterall.

Update 8: Rack upgrade
(http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/lcasambre/AV/IMG_2335.jpg)
Yeah no stands yet. I'm still mulling those over.
The pillows are my novice attempt at putting some bass traps.
Brought the HTPC (khuno) down and hooked it up to the AVR's multi-input ... complicated ... I'd rather use the XTreamer and listen or watch.
-
nice rack bro.... eksakto yung csi a6 sa rack parang custom made.... is this sabre? how much did you get it?
-
Yup the C6 just fits. I think its a Sigma ... not really sure. Got it from another Bro in the marketplace. IIRC, I think I paid 2k for it.
Got the stand for the gear from the marketplace too. Just enough room for the current gear and those in my roadmap.

Upgrade 9:
Added a NEC CD-410 CD player courtesy of Bro Vhinx, and a Numark turntable courtesy of Bro DGOODS.
Time to let the kids hear the difference ... either way.
Next, I'll get an Hybrid SACD and see if my ears can actually appreciate the difference.
Not really an audio or HT upgrade but I also got 3 UPSes so the HTPC and the 2 XTreamers don't get corrupted from the recent blinks in our power. I've been doing "check disks" have been finding errors, all repairable so far, but better safe than sorry.
-
Got me an audio only setup for my workshop, need to get back to some serious DIY.
* Yamaha RX-500U receiver
* Infinity RS225 speakers
* NEC CD-430 CD player
* HP Brio BA500 (P3 500MHz 328Mb RAM 4G HDD)
Of course the setup in the house is much better but I have to admit this system ain't bad at all. I'm even having second thoughts if I should keep it here in my dusty, oily, and damp workshop ... but then that's its purpose.
The HP by the way is what I use to play content from our NMTs. The CD player will probably be mainly to keep dust from getting inside the AVR  ... the CD player is atop AVR and provides are roof over the ventilation holes.
Picture to follow but they'll not pretty :)

Wow!!! :o :o :o
Isang mabangis na AVR yan sir!!!
Musta ang performance compared to your previous AVR?
Pangarap ko ding magka Yamaha AVR in the far future ;D
-
Thanks Bro. My first impression is that the Yamaha is warmer sounding than the Pioneer but I need more time to fiddle with the controls and use it before I can form my concrete opinion.
I like the controls of the Yamaha more which are more expensive extensive and versatile, though those available on the front panel set seems a bit too minimalist for my taste. The lack of front panel controls is however more than made up for by those on the remote. The GUI seems better providing much more information.
I think I should raise the middle shelf of the rack so there is more space for ventilation.

Congats sa mga upgrades!... :o :o :o

Congrats on all the upgrades sir...that Yammy AVR is awesome!!!
Cheers! ;D

Salamat mga bro. Hopefully I'll find more time to enjoy it ... haaaay.

Here it is, FINALLY!
Got a pair of Polk Audio RTi A9 for the front from AVShop! I'll also soon be using at set of Polk Audio RM95s for the surround, surround back and presence speakers having also taken the generous offer of Sanjay though these are not yet to connected - need to buy pins.
Just so the picture is complete, we have a PA DSW 660 for the sub, and an PA RTi A6 for the center. The receiver is the Yamaha RX-3800 with a Cignal HD box, a Sony PS3 and Bluray player, and a XTreamer for sources.
Question now is what to do with the RTi A3 set, which I've been quite happy with. Maybe they'll go upstairs to our bedroom, or to my office, or maybe someone would like to offer a good price for them :).
I'll definitely be disposing of the Wharfedale 10DFS we've been using for surrounds, so Wharf fans look out for those in the marketplace.

Ganda ng twin towers! How is it compared to your RTi A3? Congrats Bro. ;D
-
congrats sir :)
-
Not broken in yet guys so I'll reserve judgement till then. I did not really used to believe in speakers going through a break-in period but I've heard it with the A3s so I'm a believer now. What I can say is that with music I can now turn off the sub. While watching Thor though, there is nothing like having the sub on.
Thanks guys. Thank you too to all the PDVD members who've given advice and encouragement.

very very very nice sir incc63! ;) congrats ;)

I'm guessing, not decided at this point, these are very sweet speakers, but I'd say it would have to be a bit higher. It was actually the wife who suggested we put them in our bedroom though I honestly don't think they fit.

Sounds better but I'm leaning towards keeping them. Just arranged to get stands from another Bro on Monday.

Wasn't able to buy speaker wire as I had originally planned, ATM card got eaten :(, so I just swapped a pair of the RM95 set with the Wharfedale 10DFS.
Anyone know where I can get stands for these RM95 speakers? Is gauge 18 wire enough? The RM95 speakers only have clip connectors.

Upgrade ... I lost count :D
Just bought a projector. A Bro posted an offer I could not refuse. I was saving up for a 1080p but 720p should really be good enough since our screen can only be 90". Pictures to follow later.

sir pabulong naman kung magkano score mo sa RTi7, saka kanino ka kumuha ? kay sir marc ba (avshop)
-
Thanks bros. Actually, I've been planning this for some time now.
Originally, I was going to build a projector but no more time so I just bought the first value-for-money within my price range: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,147550.0.html. I got the "used" one because IMHO without a warranty it is better to get one with a few hours of use so the "lemon" risk is eliminated ... just sharing. Besides, the bulb is only about P8k on eBay with a 2000 hour lifetime so the 96 hrs translates only to about P400.
I did run into a glitch though with the actual size of the 90" screen being just slightly too big in the vertical. I figure I have two choices: settle for a smaller screen size or change the A/V rack to one with a lower profile so there is more vertical distance for the screen.
-
Ang ganda ng polk audio mo sir! :o sweet!

Ang ganda ng polk audio mo sir! :o sweet!
Thanks Bro. IMHO, Polk Audio presents the best value proposition. If you have to budget, don't leave these out of your short list. Beware though that Polk has, IMHO, carefully engineered their speakers and designed their pricing so going to the "top" is almost a no-brainer ... no regrets.
I think the A9s are broken-in already - hanep!

This ide like to hear... Two thmubs up for your brader.. Parang kelan lang nung binili mo Wharfs ko... Look at your setup now.. What an achievement bro.. Ako it took me years and years to get what i want and i'm not done yet...

I should also mention that this setup would not be what it is today if not for the Pinoy DVD website. While there are numerous websites catering to A/V enthusiasts, PDVD has for me the best mix of structure, management and participation.

Nice setup! Good decision to get the pj. Did AVDI calibrate the pj? Importante yun.

Thanks bros. No calibration done but I guess at the price I paid the service was not included. I seem to have read, there are DIY calibration methods. Any recommendations?

For the most basic calibration, you need a dvd or file with video patterns -- Video Essentials, Disney WOW, most Pixar & THX discs.

Thanks Bro. Remember you are most welcome to visit. Come over when the LSi9 have their full voice, and you can give me your vote: LSi9 vs RTi A9.
I suspect overall the A9 will win. I'm playing Queen right now, OMG!, and that's without the sub. The LSi9 will take the gold when it comes to classical and jazz, though this in no way is meant to say the A9 does not do a superb job here either.
These will be the last major upgrades or additions for awhile though. Next will probably 5 years from now when the LSiMs become affordable.
-
Very good decision on the PJ upgrade! Now you've got a Hometheater! Congrats!
-
@Nerveblocker
Thanks Bro ... though I must say that, size excluded, plasma still rules. For nature trips or visually stunning content, I'll go with the plasma. For bang-boom-action content that is carried mostly by the soundtrack, I'll go with the PJ.

Upgraded and expanded office setup:
Speakers: Polk Audio LSi9
Integrated Amplifier: Roksan Kandy MKiii
DVD player: Rotel RDV-1060
Turntable: JVC QL-A7
DAC: Super PRO 707
The Rotel can play MP3 files from a DVD-R/DVD+R so I re-encoded some of my flac files at 320kbps MP3. If there's a difference I can't hear it yet. What I'd like to do is take my flac files and burn them to a DVD/A but I can't find any freeware to do it. The DAC of the Rotel is suppose to be pretty good so its analog outputs are direct to the Roksan. I use the Super PRO when I play stuff my from PC, and yes there is a difference.

Recently got lucky in the marketplace and chanced upon a pair of FXi A6 surround speakers and then shortly thereafter a DSW 660 subwoofer. I guess this is the end of the mid-range line.
Previously, I had the first sub in the down firing position but I figure I'd try front firing.

Wow bro.. amazing setup.. grabe evolution nang setup mo bro he he he.. Ang ganda.... How big is your screen by the way?
-
Thanks Bro. Timing was just good and luck had a lot to do with it ... not to mention the PDVD Marketplace :).
About the screen, I think it is 90 something or a little less. The limiting constraint is the staircase. It was rather tricky getting everything to fit but luckily everything came together quite nicely. The dual subs does now make it much more difficult to fiddle with the connections.
-
ganda bro :)

Thanks Bro for being the enabler as well as the the person who introduced me to this model.
I now have both set to Auto and Y connected to the LFE out so they turn-on if a signal is fed. I'm still deciding if I'll set the AVR to Both or just SW. The subs turn off when I listen to music in the Pure Direct mode - no AVR DSP, then when we watch movies they turn on even if I set the AVR to "Straight".
Now they are front firing but I still worry about accidents. Unfortunately, the optional grills are not available here and my search for a custom maker has not been successful.

That's true. You do have to be a bit careful because the driver is exposed. By any chance, does your receiver have the capability of having dual sub? If so try that
-

I don't think so but I'll check. How does an AVR with a dual sub capability handle the signals?
-
I don't think so but I'll check. How does an AVR with a dual sub capability handle the signals?
I'm not sure how, but my Yamaha's sub settings can be configured to be in Left + Right, Front + Rear and Monoaural x 2 and i have no idea how the signal is being handled when configured in any of those, i guess there are differences in signal handling or else parang walang kwenta nilagay pa nila yun dun kung parepareho lang right?
But in my case i just use Y connector and just using 1 sub out para sigurado akonng parehong signal for both sub he he he... Never ko pang na try using the two sub out of my yamaha...
So basically my post is useless sa question mo bro he he he...

More complicated is what you get for using the latest ;) :D
Now I have one reason upgrade ;D ... but I'll need a lot more than just one ::)

Finally got the FXi A6 mounted on the rear wall. This earned brownie points with the missus since wires do not cross the floor and she can put her "abubot" on the tables where the speakers used to be. She did ask though about the surround back speakers wires coming down the rear wall. I said this was only temporary while I figured out what to do with the surround back.
Maybe I should just remove the surround back and use the channels to biamp the front speakers ... still a debate, never did get around to trying it. If I do keep the surround back, I'm still undecided if I should mount the two RTi A3 up on the rear wall, or replace them with a set of A1 or a single A4. Suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks for the kind words bros. Taking an early retirement does have its advantages :). Staying away from the "bleeding edge" has been a tremendous enabler too especially with PDVD's wonderful marketplace and community.
Bro Courage jests, in a few weeks his 1080p PJ will arrive to compliment his spanking new Yamaha Adventage ... wow. A 1080p PJ is definitely in my upgrade path but it will take awhile.
Next upgrade will have to be in the media distribution system we have at home. Network is too slow it seems. We have 3 routers behind the Globe DSL modem/router. Two of the 3 internal routers actually function as switches - one is on the second floor and the other is in the A/V rack. The 3rd internal router provides the NAT service, ground floor wireless access, and aggregates the other two router/switches. The 2nd floor switch also acts as the wireless access point on the 2nd floor. Complicated I know. It gets complicated mainly because these routers all just have 4 client ports. What to do though isn't clear yet :-\ and I could use suggestions.
Having to change CDs or records gets in the way of work at the office so I really need to use a music media tank. Presently, I'm using a low end netbook with a Super Pro 707, which I feel leaves a lot to be desired. I have in my sights a Musiland 03 or maybe that Cambridge another bro has on sale in the marketplace but again still undecided, and the need to do something with the netbook is more pressing.
-
Following the lead of others, I am now using XMBC 11.0 on the netbook at the office as well as on this PC. The office setup is already feeding music but it does sometimes stutter. I'll first try tuning it for music playback, still have a lot of unnecessary services enabled I think. The one here at home is in "prototyping", mainly because I need the setup to be as user friendly as our NMTs, but also because we use it as a regular PC too.
I think I can already say "front firing" is my configuration of choice for sub-woofers, as against "down firing". LFEs are so much more realistic in this configuration without, as far as I can tell, any ill effects to the musicality of the system.

yup.i believe they did that on purpose naman ;)
-
Goes to show how much I don't know. Thanks Bro Courage for replying. Yes, the port and driver face the same side so by "front firing" I mean both port and driver face the listener. The DSW 660 has two sets of foot mounting holes: one set is on the side where the driver is, and the other set is where connections are made. I always had the feet where the driver and port are so it was down firing. When I got the second sub I thought I'd try front firing ... glad I did.

Just some updates:
Have 2 "new" DACs
(http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/lcasambre/AV/QuezonCity-20120525-00361.jpg)
The STAR is the Musiland 03 US hands down.
Been trying out this new acquisition - a Audiosource preamp/amp combo:
Performance is close to the Roksan Kandy MKIII ... but not quite mids and highs are "cleaner". But considering performance/price the Audiosource may beat the Roksan since I paid about 3 times more for it. I'm not complaining, it's the Law of Diminishing Returns.

Sorry Bro but I haven't had a chance to try it on the A9 yet. The Audiosource is in my office. Awhile back I was thinking of using a speaker switch so I could drive the A9 with a different setup for audio but I read it was not a good idea. So we just use the Yamaha with the A9.

Wouldn't it be nice if these budget DACs had multiple inputs and a learning remote receiver so we would not have to buy one for each of our digital sources.

You should hear this Audiosource. Extremely good price point though maybe I just got lucky. The thing is I've nowhere to put it.
