Here goes....strictly from the 80 decade, I remembered with joy watching that quiz show hosted by David Celdran, where high-school and primary students from various schools competes for intellectual supremacy. Broadcasted around the middle to late 80s. I forgot the title but I always awaited that show because I get to try my knowledge - if there's any - before one of the students even opens his or her mouth to shoot an answer. Ito yung panahon where there's no dumb questions in a quiz show because that generation were still or largely weaned on books, disciplined, rigorous reading, and many Filipinos were not idiotized hopelessly by ABS-CBN/GMA and their stupid, LCD (lowest-common-denominator) garbage drama and variety shows. In the earliest 80s, I remembered very well and still nostalgic, Cafeteria Aroma - a comedy show starred by Apeng Daldal and Meniong Villegas, truly funny script, hindi pilit or accompanied by canned laughter to elicit viewer "ride-along" laughter. Even the comedy shows at that time were not dumb. Then there is this short-lived 15-minute comedy skits program called Sapak Talaga - which must be the earliest platform for Tessie Tomas to show her comedic prowess ("Pag-a-saa" as a PAGASA weather forecaster), it also featured the late Joel, nakalimutan ko na ang pangalan, but he was a baby-face actor who has a promising career, pero maaga namatay. Also, there was Champoy (Noel Trinidad and Subas H.) which is already popular in 1981 when we have to struggle to watch it on a color TV because in our province the voltage would dipped down to 115 watts by 5 o'clock so we need to use a transformer.
I also await for B.A. Baracus (Mr. T) on the A-Team action show, primetime 7 pm, after the 6:00 news. Naalala ko din yung dance contest ng Eat Bulaga noong 1981 which is the Carribean Disco Show (sang by Lobo - not the Where Were You When I Was Falling In Love singer). Inaabangan ko talaga yun, it may have ran for 6 months and if I can skipped school or maaga pinauuwi from it, pinapanood ko ang contest with glee ("Mr. tally man tally me banana Daylight come and I wanna go home....")
There is also way back in 1985-86 London Calling which is a MTV show delivering the most popular new wave hits and bands at that time -- New Order, Fine Young Cannibals, Belouis Some, The Clash -- practically all from England. Truly enjoyed that, when rock was simple and clear and the finest bands were often from England or Scotland....
