kay Hans ka na makikipag usap tungkol sa Hafler bro. wala na sa aking mga kamay yan... pero relaks ka lang - baka magpalit na naman ng kamay ang hafler at hindi pa rin malayo ang puntahan...  ;)

thanks for your inputs mga sir!  hmmm baka magmistulang ss vs tube yata, di naman sinasadya hehe its a real decision to be made... been targetting the accuphase since december so i could consolidate all my ss amps into this one representative, and dispose of all the others... that is, if its better than all the others.

and then i heard a tube amp that could be used in both audio and HT... haaaay, life would be so simple if there was only 1 amp... if i dispose all of my beloved amps i would have enough dough to go ask mr. andrew to build monoblocs for me hmmmm.  life is simple, no more changing cables, no more shorted amp, no more busted tweeter.

or maybe better still, have enough patience to acquire both and do an amp shootout... hmmmm it would be easy to sell the accuphase in case i find the tube amp more to my liking... but would it be just as easy to sell the tube amp in case the accuphase wins? hmmmm.

Well accuphase is a very reputable brand, the only problem with that is if it does break down, will it be easily serviced ??? , that is if it will break down :)  If it matches your system then go for it.

i've read about some accuphase amps lasting 30 years with only the knobs and terminals breaking down, so i suppose they're quite durable... plus the built-in preamp and phono stage could be useful with a turntable, though i could see how those circuits do add to the complexity of the amp... i like the way sansui lays out their integrated amps: the preamp, phono and power section are in separate compartments so they could almost be separates if not for the shared chassis & power supply... accuphase does things differently, they use circuit boards so their amps are like PC's in that sense.

now for the tube amp, just this last month i've heard a scott, a 300b, and a el34 amp... what can i say, its the end of innocence... i've always known that i will get into tubes someday, just not this quickly... your 60wpc amp made it possible to combine audio & HT, its almost as powerful as a THX amp but more musical, very flexible isn't it?

re: accuphase vs. tube amp... i decided to save up for both na lang, but has to be accuphase first since its so much harder to find, it may be my last solid state amp for quite a while... i couldn't resist it after i saw the build quality, for a 15-year old amp it looks newer & more modern than many new amps in the market... looks very similar to my marantz receiver but more classy and more "serious" coz its twice the weight at 24kg.

inside it looks alot like narayan's rotel power amp with the big toroidal trafo and the separate L/R power sections... the beer-can caps are the same as my surplus sansui... no need for a power cable replacement as it's quite thick... the preamp and power amps can also be used separately... max power consumption is 830watts.

my initial impression of sound quality is that the treble is more detailed but the bass is slightly leaner than the sansui alpha... it doesn't get sibilant though, the treble seemed extended rather than emphasized... bass is also weighty but i think it doesn't hold a candle to the hafler xl280... i have to listen to it a bit more to really know how it sounds, but so far so good.

Mga Boss,
I couldn't help but thinking that we might have deprived akyatbundok's friend of a Home Theater experience. Kasi d ba this forum was started with the fact that he might have wanted a 5ch set up but the wifey wouldn't allow it? This is just an opinion, but I know that a home theater system can offer a great 2 ch experience, but it isn't so true the other way around, d po ba? Kasi if akyatbundok's friend isn't that pihikan about brands, he could have purchased a 5 ch HT system at around that price(9k). And it would still be easier for him to upgrade eventually if he'd get the chance, right? I just wish we gave him the chance to experience HT. But that's just my opinion. Thanks guys.
Making the most of what I've got

Sir Arthur,

OT.
Thanks for the concern, I appreciate it very much. It is true that I am very pihikan with brands hence I opted for a 2 channel setup. When akyat started this thread I since then became a lurker at Pinoy DVD, I enjoy reading threads and learned many things from it. The truth is muntik na nga akong mahawa ng SARS, I planned to buy a 5.1 setup last December, but I chose to invest a good digital camera for family use, which I could say I did not regret. I will have my dream HT, but but not this time muna,... mahilig magbenta si Akyat, hintay ko na lang yung Marantz nya ha ha haha! Don't worry,  Akyat's place is the hang-out of the whole barkada if we want to have a good HT experience and he has an enourmous collection of DVD/CD/VCD titles (not to mention his x-tion collections) which we can borrow  indefinitely he he he he ;D ;D ;D. Kaya po marami na yang nawawala na titles. Mind you he is also very hospitable, libre lagi merienda/hapunan namin. I can imagine the listening session you guys have at his place. Once in a while I accompany Akyat  to his many buying/sourcing stints in Pier and just last Saturday we got his dream accuphase.

Keep on postings mga Sirs...CHEERS!!!!

Sir Philander,

Sabi ko I doubt it, itong hobby mo kako e endless pursuit yan.

uh oh.. there seems to be a problem with the preamp section of the accuphase, an occasional static sound that suggests a dirty or rusty contact point... but using it purely as a power amp paired with my tono preamp -- yeeessss, that's more like it.

the accuphase e-305 competes directly with the sansui au-alpha707 (same specs but accuphase is pricier)... doing a side by side comparison, the accuphase beats the sansui with better clarity in the mids and treble... but only by a small margin, because the way sansui rounds off the treble also has its advantages making it sound smooth yet detailed.

That's why I've asked. Useless kasi pag may digital outs pero walang digital ins.

Now thats good, you can have 3 digital sources connected to the amplifier.
