Just wanted to share with you my non-professional review of the 300X. I will just follow the same layout Doc Mel did in page 1 :)

MEDE8ER MED300X

Box Contents

NMT player, quick start guide, component video cables, USB cable, power adapter, remote control, a carrying bag and an HDMI cable!

Front

The only button you will see on the 300X is the power button. Every other buttons found on the 500X has been taken out. :(

Back

At the back, there is component video out, composite video, analog left & right audio, HDMI, optical and coaxial audio out.  I can't remember if there is a LAN port and option on attaching a wifi adapter for wireless networking...I will check to verify. You can also find the cooling fan here.

Internal Storage

You can attach an internal 3.5" HDD inside, upto 2TB capacity.

External Storage

Same as the 500X, there is an SD card reader, 1 slave USB port (for attaching the Mede8er to your PC for management and transfer of files in your internal HDD) and 2 USB slots for your external HDDs.

Remote

The remote is slightly smaller than the remote supplied in the 500X. The only "BIG" difference I see is the "SEARCH" button on the remote...very helpful in finding movie files. :)

GUI

The Gui is still the same quality as the 500X, but better now, with the new "search" function, it is easier for find the film you want to watch, without having to scroll on the list. 8)

Loading time is impressive. I am coming from an EGreat NMT player, and the Mede8er is FAST! :o

Another neat feature is the "preview" window on the movie file. As you press ENTER on the movie folder you wish to watch, there is a small screen to the left, which will show the preview of the film. Kinda like a picture in a picture effect on an LCD. ;)

Image Quality

IQ is okay. I am not sure if it is just me, but it seem like my EGreat still has the better PQ as compared to the 300X.

Playability

I hooked up my external hard drives to this baby, and it played every single file, except for one file - The Incredible Hulk 1080p DTS MA. This is the largest file I have and it won't play on the 300X for some reason. >:(

Audio

Out of the box, the 300X offers the following:
Dolby Digital (AC3) Downmix: Yes
Dolby Digital (AC3) Passthrough: Yes
Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) Downmix: Yes
Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) Passthrough: Yes
Dolby TrueHD Downmix: Yes
Dolby TrueHD Passthrough: Yes
DTS Downmix: Yes
DTS Passthrough: Yes
DTS-HD HR Downmix: Yes
DTS-HD HR Passthrough: Yes
DTS-HD MA Downmix: Yes

However, I feel that even with all these, the EGreat still sounded better. :P It could be my setting, but it is something that I still have to play around with.

Conclusion

The 300X's function is to be what it is...an NMT player! Networking capabilities present on the 500X has been eliminated from the 300X...or now just an option.

Like Doc Mel, this is just my initial review. As for the inconsistencies that I may have found, I still have to check if my settings are properly done, as I just connected everything and fired on.

However, out of the box, I feel that the only real advantage of the 300X vs my Egreat is the loading speed. As for video and audio quality, I still prefer the Egreat...but that's just me. ;)

that maybe due to header compression, my hdpro cant handle movies with header compression as well.

use mkvtoolnix to remove the compression.

Korek! Header compression nga yan bro, there's a thread in mede8er forum that will teach you on how to remove that. Madami akong files na naayos using mkvtoolnix :)

Did you configure the Onkyo's inputs properly? Remove all other digital source inputs aside from the HDMI in the input menu screen.

Onkyo 508 + Mede8ter 500X user here push mo sir "receiver button" ng remote ng onkyo nyo or ""BD/DVD" button ng remote ng Onkyo, since tama naman kasi setting ng HDMI Passthrough nyo sa Mede8ter.

1TB Seagate HDD Cannot be read by Mede8er MED500x
« Reply #468 on: Dec 26, 2010 at 07:21 PM »
Initially, I had some problems with its file system since my external drive is Mac-formatted , our artist is the one who formatted the disk as NTFS. I'm now having problem seeing the External HDD i my Mede8er. But I can access the External Seagate 1TB on my Windows XP running on VMWare on Macbook Pro.

What do I need to do? i'm currently on FW 3.04.

stock it cant you have to upgrade your firmware but its only beta type so there are a lot of bugs, this is where the 300x becomes of an advantage kung gusto mo yung DTS MA, kase DTS MA ready na agad sya

May I ask who has actually confirmed this and what kind of file(s) were played to output DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD?  Thanks!

Ang alam kong confirmed HD audio capable na Realtek-based is the Xtreamer Pro.   ;)

I can confirm from first hand experience. As brader Onkyo said, out of the box, you will have to upgrade your firmware for the 500X, but its only beta type so there are a lot of bugs to be fixed. Brader Onkyo has the 500X. I own the 300X and it's already DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD ready "out of the box."

Also, the 300X has a special "SEARCH" function button, making it very easy to find films in your library, which the 500X does not have. ;)

I suppose you played a full BD Structure (or was it BD ISO?) containing HD audio.  If it was a full BD structure, did you play by selecting the specific m2ts streams within the folder (mala explorer mode),or, did you simply click on the BD filename and the BD movie played already?

It's a full-sized, full-function remote control, isn't it? + Search button?

Does it come with component video output too?

Approx. how many seconds does it initialize from power-up?

Thanks ulit!

I played a downloaded mkv file that was used for demo of the Dolby TrueHD Surround Sound. The files video played on the Egreat without any sound, but when I played it on the 300X...whoa!!! :o

I never timed it as it is really faster than the Egreat, but I would say...15 to 20 seconds loading time. I have no internal HD, but I have two 1 TB external HD's attached to it. :)

Alan, was able to play and output DTS MA / Dolby TrueHD using Mede8er 300x. Used the BD Rips I got from you  ;D However, parang I like the sound and video of Egreat (i might be one na masuwerte that did not experience problem in playing BD Rips sa Egreat using Esata connection) more than Mede8er 300x. Although mas maganda yung black level nung Mede8er 300x but seems a little grainy. Maybe it is just the adjustment na hindi ko pa na discover. Noticed kasi during boot na ang baba ng resolution nung Mede8er but eventually tataas up to 1080i. Wala din masyado choices sa video set-up  if i remember right will only give you 3 choices which i ended up choosing HDMI Auto. Have not used the search function although nawala yung puwede ka input ng number/time to go to a particular movie scene na mayron sa 500x  :(

Mayron pala ito thumbnail view option which is not present sa 500x ;D I like the 500x more than the 300x  ;D Kaya lang binili nung brother in law ko yung 500x  ;D

sa tingin ko mas mabilis ang power-up ng 500x over-all. the 300x will show the mede8er screen faster (almost immediately after turning it on) but would take longer to search for the HDD connected to it. Although compared sa Egreat malayo talaga  ;D

Thanks Von!  I suddenly missed the Egreat31B.   Actually, the first time I ever used a Mede8er 500x, my initial thought was that the Egreat seemed noticeably better in terms of PQ and seemed richer in SQ.   I should have kept it for pure BD use.  Hehehe.

You know what's strange right now, even though my AVR is totally 20th century, I actually can detect some sound signature difference when the file contains DTS and when the file has DTS-HDMA.  Parang manipis ang bass kung HD audio.  I thought, WoW, mala pure Hi-Fi sound pala ang dating - meaning matinis and maraming details ang tunog imbes na makalabog.  Hehehe.

Thanks too Stickfighter for the clarifications.

Happy Holidays to all!
