qguy, thanks for the pricing info pre... i agree on auditioning at the store, everything's different so its really not possible to tell the difference with a scott, w/c is the sound i'm aiming for btw.
john/kimpao, guys does this mean the non-NOS el84's aren't that good? for the price i mean, as a low-cost first time attempt at a tube amp.
uuuuyy matutuwa si kuya hans sa iniisip mo
generally speaking, sound may be very much subjective as we all have different tastes. non-NOS tubes are a cheaper way to go around as NOS tube are really hard to find these days plus the fact that they will cost you a fortune. as john was saying svets el84 are also good but not as sweet sounding as teles, philips, mullard or amperex but they do perform somehow up to par with nos. The problem is this, i myself got used to hearing my scott using el84 philips miniwatts (nos, which is currently being used by my amp, akyat problem niyo rin yan ni hans dahil nasanay kayo na marinig yung scott ko, pero nos yung gamit ko dun sa output, which is ayun yung hinahabol niyo na sound), was able to try svets and eh el84s but then i was comparing them to the philips, the both somehow sounded similar to the philips. But if you listen long enough only then you'll be hearing what was missing with the current production tubes.
