yahooo... sa totoo lang... gustong gusto ko panoorin ito dati sa tv kaso naputulan kami... at saka gusto ko from start to finish para hanep... it's nice to see R3 dvd's like these... well, aside from godfather, i guess this one will be one of the best among the boxed sets... i gotta have this one! 3000... tsk tsk... matagalang pag-iipon uli ito...

Just got from Astro Megamall my BoB. From the looks of it, the packaging looks exactly like the R1 version and it's really very classy (embossed title on the front and spine). This has got to be one of the best packages i've ever seen for a DVD.

For 3T, this is a must-buy if you're not too concerned about the deleted Field Guide and DTS. The packaging alone made me want to have it ASAP.

I'll be one happy guy this weekend!

Just picked mine up from Astro Virra Mall. It was delivered there this morning daw.

Fantastic packaging! And for something proudly "Manufactured in Taiwan", I can see only one typing error in the exterior packaging.

Now to study the features and stuff... after Survivor.

I got my copy lunch time. Previewed disc 1 and browsed through some scenes. Some immediate observations:

1) Max bitrate for the video is only 7.5Mbps (instead of the usual 9.8Mbps).

2) Audio bitrate for the DD5.1 track is only 384kbps (instead of the usual 448kbps)

3) There's a Spanish audio track which I find weird. Why put Spanish audio tracks in an R3 disc??? Para sa mga Chabakano???

hey! pahingi naman ng maraming tulong. namumrublema kasi ako kung ano ang bibilhin ko kung R1 ba o R3. ano b sa tingin niyo ang mas worth it. ung R3 kasi walang DTS at konting features e ung R1 naman kumpleto pero mas mahal. what do you think?!!!! pls reply asap!!!

of course, its really what you are after when you buy the set. ako kasi, type ko talaga yung story, and after reading firewired's previous review, i decided na ok na rin para sa aking yung R3, kaya kinuha ko na. i can live kasi without the DTS track and the Field Guide. Nakatipid pa ako ng konti and at least nasa akin na ngayon at na-eenjoy ko yung panood.

my two cents lang naman.

Better make up your mind soon -- just got word from Astrovision that their current inventory of Band of Brothers is selling like hotcakes. They expect this title to be sold out by next week. Also, there's no guarantee that the next shipment from Warner Home Video will still be in tin cases.

Off topic but pasingit lang please, how'd you measured the bitrate?

BTW, inggit ako sa inyo, I'll probably wait a little longer till the price drops, I'm more into the series, so ok lang if it does not come na in tin casing, but still hoping that they'll not change the tin casing.

The R3 is around 2000 pesos cheaper than the R1. The tradeoff is that you lose the Field Guides and the DTS tracks for each of the episodes.

Here's my opinion on the value of these missed features:

Regarding the DTS track
After watching 5 episodes of BoB yesterday, I can already surmise how little different the DTS track is from the DD track. BoB's sound mix is quite front heavy. It does not push the surround envelope the same way Saving Private Ryan did. The DD track handles the BoB soundmix with ease.

As for the Field Guide
If you've already bought and read the Stephen Ambrose book the series was based on, the information you'll get from Field Guide would be of very little value.

If you have not bought or read the book yet, you can buy a copy at NBS or PowerBooks for around 600 pesos with the 2000 pesos you save by going for the R3.
