Hi nirvblakr!

I've auditioned these Kenwoods. Items 1-3 don't have active subwoofers, they're only passive. They don't have any controls on them, just speaker connectors (push type-tama ba? basta hindi binding posts). :( Although the amp that comes with the speakers is rated 130W x 6 (FR,FL,C,SR,SL + sub). You can control the volume of the sub through the amp, although the controls is much like the bass or loudness control (yung +10 to -10). :( For me, when I listened to it, medyo kapos sa bass kahit itodo mo na yung sub (+10).

Item 4, the amp is good, rated at 140W x 5. It sounds great! ;) My only gripe is that the surround speakers connector are push type :( but the fronts and center are binding posts. :) And speaker impedance is 8-16 ohms only. So if you own or planning to buy a 6-ohm speaker set, this amp is not for you. I've already emailed Kenwood-Japan's customer service about this and here's their reply:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your e-mail. Regarding your inquiry,
8 ohms to 16 ohms speakers are requested to
be used. 6 ohms speakers may be damaged.

Thank you and best regards,
(Tokyo, Japan)

Grail-Most HT speakers nowadays are made with an 8 ohm impedance. If you are going to match speakers with this particular amp, make sure nalang na 8 ohms ang bibilin mo so you won't have problems later on.

In the MS Premier speakers, with that small size, you would really expect the cliptype connectors.

The floorstanding have binding posts on them. Well, if on the other speakers you're worried about having clip type connectors, I can always change the clip type to binding posts (banana plugs) for you if you bought your speaker set already. ;D

Regarding the sub, it was only quoted by a (duhh ???) attendant and I didn't really examine the sub...sorry about that.

I myself own a Kenwood DD/DTS VR-505 receiver and have no problems with it. ;D

THX select is for small to medium size room. There is also this THX ultra which is for a bigger area.

Yamaha does not have a THX certified receiver.

So is there a significant difference in listening to THX Certified Receivers?

Thanks!

Medyo OT na tayo, but you can only benefit from a THX receiver if you are going to use it with a THX certified DVD player, speakers, room acoustic, airconditioners, chairs, popcorn maker , vendo machine ;D, all in all adjusted/calibrated to THX standards by George Lucas engineers. ;)

Hi,

Just bought my 1st HTB 2 weeks ago in the US. Got it for only $312(P16850) including 4.5% tax at Best Buy. For a small room that i have, im happy with this baby! Medyo malakas nga ang dating eh kasi 100w x 6 yung output kaya minimal volume level lang pag DTS movie ang nakasalang baka mag-reklamo nice neighbors ko! ;D

KENWOOD HTB-205 DTS/DPLII
[/b]

The HTB-205 combines easy set-up with awesome surround sound. A powerful receiver (100 Watts x 6 channels) is the system's command center, providing Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding for intensely great surround sound, and it's perfect for reproducing your music as well. Five full-range speakers (left, center, right, and two surround speakers) and an 8" subwoofer fill your viewing room with sound, faithfully reproducing all of a movie's dialogue, music, and sound effects. A Kenwood System Remote is included.

KEY FEATURES
- 5 Full-Range Magnetically-Shielded Speakers
- 8" Subwoofer
- Complete Surround Sound System Including Receiver, Speakers and Subwoofer
- Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound
- Kenwood System Remote
- Surround Power: 100 Watts x 6

;D
I feel the need....the need for speed...

I was planning to get this one too. But, noticed that the sub is passive . So I resist. I guess, nalason na ng forum na ito ang isip ko na mas maganda ang Active sub kaysa sa passive. ;D

Boasting Lucasfilm Ltd.'s coveted THX® Select certification, the VR-6070 has the power, the processing, and the audio purity necessary for truly outstanding home theater performance. Packing 100 full-bandwidth-rated watts x 6 channels of dynamic Kenwood power and three 6.1-channel decoding formats — THX® Surround EX, Dolby® Digital, and DTS-ES® — this receiver delivers incredibly convincing, three-dimensional soundscapes that totally immerse you in the movie action!

Multi-zone A/V output lets you enjoy any audio or A/V source in two rooms simultaneously. (An amplifier, receiver, shelf system, or powered speakers are required in the second room.) The convenient remote has RF capability, so you can control your system from either listening room. It's also pre-programmed to operate the basic functions of most brands of A/V gear, and you can even teach it your gear's more esoteric features using the original remotes of each component.

All of the VR-6070's surround decoding — which also includes Dolby Pro Logic II — is handled by a super-precise 32-bit Analog Devices processor. You also get Kenwood's Circle Surround II modes, which let you transform any audio or A/V source into 6.1-channel sound. Five audio DSP modes let you enhance any music source with the ambience of your choice.

The VR-6070 also sports impressive array of inputs for all your A/V sources, including 4 digital inputs, an optical output, 2 component video inputs, 5 A/V inputs (all with S-video), and a 5.1-channel analog input for a DVD-Audio or SACD player. For system expandability down the road, you also get a 7.1-channel preamp output.

Key Features:

THX Select certification
100 watts x 6 into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.7% THD
THX Surround EX, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, and Pro Logic II
multi-zone A/V capability (preamp-level stereo audio and composite video output for second room)
5 audio DSP modes (Arena, Theater, Jazz Club, Stadium, Disco)
Circle Surround II modes
2-stage Midnight Theater mode
24-bit DSP, D/A and A/D converters
learning/multibrand RF/IR remote with joystick control
7.1-channel preamp output
component video switching (2 in, 1 out, 10MHz bandwidth)
digital inputs: 2 optical, 2 coaxial
digital outputs: 1 optical
3 audio inputs (including phono), and 5 A/V inputs (including 5 S-video, 1 front-panel and one 5.1-channel)
anti-resonant aluminum front panel
40 AM/FM presets
2 sets of main speaker outputs
banana plug-compatible binding posts for all main-room speakers
17-5/16"W x 6-5/16"H x 16"D

Maybe you guys want to check on this. The Kenwood VR-6070 (US) has its Asian counterpart the Kenwood KRF-9060D which goes for P25k.

Here are the reviews which might change your mind:

Just read somewhere on the net that production of KRF-X9060D (VR-6070 in the US) is discontinued. It's successor is KRF - X9070D (VR-7070) in the US. Looks almost the same. Difference is on the remote. And the new one has lesser power rating compared to the oprevious model. The previous model though (VR-6070) got a 5 star rating from Sound & Vision. See the links.

how is the performance of your Kenwood krf-9060d? Is there any noticeable difference between Dolby Digital-EX, DTS-ES and THX surround EX?

Pare, I can't answer that yet. Why? Because I don't have yet the required speakers for a 7.1 Setup. I'm thinking between the Polk Audio R and RT Series and the Mission M7x Series to connect to my VR - 6070.
Sometimes, just to hear my 6070 works, I connect the speakers from our 2 Mini Components as Front and Surround Speakers. I also have a Sub from one of the Mini Components being connected to my receiver. And I used the speaker system of the TV Set as the center speaker using the pre-out of my receiver. How was that? With this set-up, Sound is Good at least. I love the Bass. You can barely hear but you really feel as it sends shock waves within the Living Room. My big problem really is on acoustic. We are on the 2nd floor with a house that's all wood. Huhummm. Anyway, hope i can have my commission this May so I can start buying speakers for my receiver.

If you want to hear feedback about this receiver. see the MASSIVE Thread about VR - 6070 on ecoustics.com

I've been a KENWOOD Fan ever since the 80's. I know there are some great brands there too. But I just love how KENWOOD sounds. Alam ko naka HK 3550 ka. Minsan dalhin ko jan sa haus niyo ung Receiver ko para ikabit sa MISSIONS mo.

Thanks PRe.

nels76- Are you in the States? The counterpart of the 6070 is the 9060 here in the Philippines. Unless you have a source of the 6070 here.
